Honor Walk: The Ultimate Christmas Gift

- On Saturday, December 22, St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York, held its first Honor Walk in support of an organ donor and her family. During the walk, staff, family and friends silently lined the pathway from the ICU to the OR to pay their respects. The simple act was a way for hospital staff to show the family that they are not alone, and to support the patient’s heroic last act in saving someone else’s life.

I am glad hospitals do this. To not be alone for that final goodbye
Any dislike of this sad moment is not to be believed. Shame on the people who disapproved. You never know when your time is up! Sincere sympathy for the family and friends ❤.
I have participated
in an honor walk. It is incredibly emotional for all who have been involved in the patient's care. The strength of the family is astounding.
It’s hard to imagine how they get through it.
❤❤❤
How can there be 198 dislikes? Honor walks are important to the family. Those who donate there organs are hero's. Love and prayers to the family.
Heartless people.
I think some people use the dislike to express their grief and sorrow.
@@giannoulagray3289 oh maybe. Thanks
Maybe because one of the family members called the donor a shit head?
@@wyomingadventures oh dear I didn't hear that. But in the end he saved others.
My great-nephew organs were donated after a horrible car accident. He had just turned 13. He saved several ppl. I too am an organ donor 💜
I'm near 50 and have yet to watch one of these where I haven't broken down. One family's greatest tragedy is another's greatest gift. It's so ironic.
One life lost but lives on in five more. Its a miracle.
Very true,my 24 year old daughter received a kidney from a young donor who had passed. I was so grateful yet sad all at the same time, that I struggled with my emotions. I thank the family selflessly decided to share in their time of pain🙏☁️☁️☁️☁️
@@traceymanzano4015 Its bitter sweet but what a gift the donor gave your daughter & your family. Our Savior made our bodies vessels to be shared. Happy Living to your daughter.🙏😇
I'm an organ donor. It's a selfless act. God bless her and her family
God bless you
I pray for you ❤️
Even though I'm a 15 y/o woman and no one knows about this (not even my family) but when my time on this earth is up, I wanna be an organ donor too to help save more lives. May God bless you and your close loved ones.
I am proudly a retired CCU nurse from St. Peter's Hospital and so glad and deeply moved to see that they have taken up the honor walk. Staff, family, and friends would grieve in quiet silence when a patient died and went on for transplant donation. It is a remarkable thing when just for a moment a busy hospital will pause and pay respect to what is going on with this family, patient, and all involved.
Nurses are angels, thank you for all you have done💓💓

I'm so sorry for the family's loss, but at the same time a wonderful gift was received by those who desperately needed it.
I’m an icu nurse and we always do this when a patient goes for organ procurement.
It’s very moving.
This is so moving to see! What a great way to honor those that at the end of their lives are helping others! I see the halls lined with hospital staff, do you let The Whole hospital know so they can take part in this? I never knew anything of this!!
I think its a wonderful Idea. so moving
I B ELF where I work, everyone on the unit lines the halls from the patient’s room to the elevator..it’s a big unit so there are a lot of employees (nurses drs housekeepers, everyone). This video seems like a long procession to wherever they are going (the elevator or the OR). it’s much shorter of a walk on my unit.. just from the patient’s room to the elevator which isn’t very long of a walk.
@@miasmom4601 Thats so wonderful
Mia's Mom it is very moving
I feel sorry for the who died but giving someone else to chances to live again. Hopefully the people who got these organs shared their loves and passion and honor themselves to be alive again. At least someone else appreciate their loves for them.
***The gift that keeps giving**

Omg I wouldn't be able to let go...such a brave family..
james jam they are so brave
I think it's amazing that these people are doing this.. They deserve all of blessings in the world....
I'm so sorry for your loss. These Honor Walks are so incredibly special. They did one for my brother recently when he passed. It literally had me in full blown ugly cry mode.
i am now trying to campaign for this to happen in my country England,i had a liver transplant and wish i could have completed a honor walk for the person who gave me life
TeTe Artis lol look up as this went over your head
steve tomkinson ❤️🙏🏻❤️
I wondered if the do this in the UK
The person in the bed is donating their organs and the “Honor Walk” is for them, as a sign of gratitude & respect by the family & friends of the person being honored, as well as all available hospital staff. Btw, @Teryka Artis, the donor is NOT deceased, but are kept alive until after their organs are procured. Then, of course, they peacefully pass away. I understand that the Honor Walk is a very moving & compassionate ceremony. Sometimes they have a pastor’s blessing, words spoken by friends and/or family, or in the case of military personel, appropriate dress & a flag ceremony.
I don't know why they don't do it here...twelve weeks ago my sister in law lied, and one of her daughters works in a care home and it seems that when one of the residents die the cares and employees stand outside when the undertakers are taken them away as a mark of respect..we did it for her mum when the undertaker was taking her away. It was hard for the daughters but they were there right to to very end.
I told my kids (2) when I die as much of me is to be donated. It's noted on my driver's license, it's also noted in my medical power of attorney - right down to the last eye lash, cornea, etc. I'm not concerned about having an "Honor Walk." I'm already gone, hospital is delaying the inevitable of taking what they need and transplanting and saving my kids' some unneeded and unnecessary grief and tears. This would be more a show for the hospital than it is to show respect - condolences to my family. Just my thoughts. Everyone else can do as they please without bashing me.
May this beautiful, unselfish soul Rest in Peace! I can only hope and pray my Momma's donor and his family were given the same respect and that there was a great honor walk for him. May he Rest in Perfect Peace for all eternity.
God bless him and his family. Everyone needs to be an organ donor. It is on my drivers license and my family is fully aware of my wishes if something happens to me. There is no greater gift than the gift of life.

You are a hero! Thank you for giving the gift of life! 😊🥰💖🥺🙏🏼
It’s sad when people lose loved ones , but it’s so beautiful because they are saving others and they get to love twice , with God and through the ones they saved 🙏🏾♥️ God Bless you all 🌹
God Bless these beautiful ppl you r all in my prayers🙏🙏
Although a very sad moment for the family, hopefully they find out how many people this man saved with his organ donation. I hope they can experience hearing his heart in someone’s chest, beating & keeping them alive and another person take a deep breath because they received his lungs and someone else that no longer requires dialysis because they received a kidney from him.

steve tomkinson I’m glad that you got to live! I need lungs but God has supernaturally kept me alive. I don’t work anymore but I am totally self sufficient. 30% lung function. My doctors all agree that this can’t be explained by science how i am still walking talking loving living.
Praise God, nothing is impossible with him.
I am very sorry for your loss.. thank you for your gift .my friend received a heart on Christmas Eve because of someone like you..he is doing extremely well and has met his donors family.. God bless you
So sorry for your loss.and thank you for the ultimate gift to help so many others
We don’t know the hour, time or day but one thing I do know God is such s good Good he will be the best friend in the world to have in your time of grief...
God bless to each of the families that will receive a treasured gift from the highest..☝️🙏❤️
What is one’s family tragic loss becomes another families blessing it’s like a rainbow after the storm what a tremendous act of kindness and selfishness on the donor’s behalf and the family
May God bless you.
Que gesto mais lindo Deus abençoe a família
God bless those who give those who grieve those who receive.
Praying for your family, from Mississippi !

Wow. I'm crying.
I dont think I could do this walk. It would crush me , I'm a strong person, but when it comes to my family boy o boy I cant take it. Bad enough when they get hurt I'm the one in pain. This is so sad, my heart goes out to the family
I wish they had done this for my brother. He would have loved it. But he had passed away off shore and the donation took place at the corners office. Still I would have walked to the ambulance that took him there. I was the only family in town for him. Someone got their eye sight the next morning , and alot of people got help from other things. Your right though , Mom would have had trouble making the walk, but would have made it some kinda way.
The Honor Walk of an Angel flying.
Very sorry for your loss
I am sorry for your loss. May God bless you and your family with angel wings! Fly high beautiful person with the angels! You are a superhero and beautiful and wonderful and awesome person who is giving up your organs for others to live!

What an amazing gift
I'm waiting for a heart an both kidneys so this breaks my heart but it's sucha gift at the same time
Good luck, The same woman I've known since she was little needs a heart and she used to hook me up for my kidney treatments until I got my transplant. Small world lol
sorry for your los
At the beginning of the pandemic only the staff & a couple immediate family members were allowed in hospital. They would push the loved one up to a window where friends & family had balloons & signs in the parking lot to say Goodbye. One life gone & 5 other saved. Godspeed🙏🌻
Not everyone can feel the pain of another😢
It hurts so bad just watching
RIP and my condolences
I am so sorry for your loss
God bless you🙏🙏🙏🙏
This is something very respectful and memorable for the families of the deceased Loved ones that are leaving for the next life and a spiritual celebration for the deceased, though we as mortal souls do not see their smiles I as Catholic do believe that they are since they know they are helping someone who is in need and they're going 2 a place mortal body parts are not needed if someone else can utilize them.
Rest in peace brave soul
Respect RIP
I cry for the families I couldn’t be thatstrong

This is the gift that shows the true heart and soul of who the donor is, who their family are. Gifting others with the blessing of organ donation through the most painful time of life is helping other live their best, healthiest life and living in through each that recieve this gift. The donor and the one blessed with this help will share every smile, every laugh, every day that had been gifted. As a nurse myself I am always amazed when any family thinks of others through their painful loss. They are truly God's angels on earth.

It’s so sad I wanna be an organ donor but everything in my body is messed up. I smoke cigarettes, and have diabetes. I’m not even making fun. I feel so bad for families that goes through this. If I had taken care of my health and anything happened to me of course I would love to donate something from my body. I just dont know what would be good for the person 😢😪 sorry for the loss. My deepest condolences to the family.

Calm Down I have read the comment several times but can’t make sense of it!
I Be Elf the poster is an organ receipient. There was an honor walk for the person who died so that he got the organ. He hopes that he lives his life in a good way that makes him worthy of receiving that person's organ.
