Samaritan Hospital Holds Honor Walk for Organ Donor

- Samaritan Hospital held its first Honor Walk on August 21. The Honor Walk is a way for staff to show their support for an organ donor and his or her family during an incredibly difficult time. In this case, the donor was a 39 year old woman from Troy, New York. Staff lined the hallway in silent tribute as nurses and doctors transported the donor from the ICU to the operating room. The Honor Walk was coordinated with help from the Center for Donation and Transplant New York - Vermont.
I watch every single one of these! I don't know if it helps the families to know, SOMEONE (me) CARES! I do care and blessed to all of the heroes saving lives.
As someone who went through this with my daughter, I can tell you it does help. You are very kind
I watch all of these videos to I may not know the family's that go through this but my heart is with them giving the gift of life is so humbling they will always be the heros for giving the gift of life
I also watch them and admire and honor all of the people who are Organ Donors and their families. 🙏❤ Im also an OD although ive had a condition called Disseminated Valley Fever so most likely my organs will be used for science purposes only. I just hope it will somehow save another life 💗

Such a beautiful tribute. My 36 year old daughter passed away last year and she was an organ donor. I am very proud of her last selfless act.

What a beautiful gift to be able to save another person's life. I always make sure when I renew my license that I have the organ donor box checked. I have heard other people say that they don't because they are afraid that doctors won't try to save them if they know they are an organ done, which is rediculous and uneducated. An EMT or doctor isn't gonna give up on saving you if you are an organ donor.
I think everyone should check that box and give give someone else the greatest gift of all.. The gift if life.
I am praying for this family that maybe by doing this it will help them heal.
Philly Michelle So many myths abound with organ donation and that’s one of the biggest. My MIL won’t consider organ donation because she insists that they won’t work as hard to save you, that the organs will go to someone famous who doctors put ahead of everyone else, or organs go to the highest bidder, etc... makes me tear my hair out! But that’s her choice. Anyway, I had to renew my license earlier this year. There was a long line but it was very cool that everyone wanted to be an organ donor. That was about 8 people! I know that there are situations in which you can’t donate, but at least check the box like you did!
I live in Tulsa and two officers were gunned down on Monday. Both were taken to area hospitals in very critical injuries. Sadly, one of the officers passed away on Tuesday. We are gutted by this tragedy, but it was announced that Sgt Craig Johnson was an organ donor, and we take some solace knowing lives were being saved. He was a true hero in life and now in death.
Yes it is really that simple. After my husband passed away 7 1/2 years ago, my daughter, son, and I registered as an eye, tissue and organ donor. His heart didn't come fast enough to save his life. Too many people die while waiting on someone to give of themselves so selflessly. Had more people checked the box at the BMV he might still be here.

I think what makes this the most difficult is the machines make it appear they are still alive. Such an unselfish act. I think the only way I could mentally get through it is the comfort is a piece of them still remains in this world through others.
K Barbre I’ve heard that one of the organ recovery agencies will make a recording of their loved one’s heartbeat and will place it in a teddy bear so family can hug the bear and listen to the heartbeat any time they want. What a beautiful idea. ❤️

I’m sure being an organ donor is very important very meaningful and certainly helps help countless countless lives Fortunately is someone who is Jewish and who is raised as an Orthodox Jew we are not allowed to donate organs because against our culture and our faith

People are still alive when they are taken away to donate!
No they aren't. They are completely brain dead, not in a coma so they are by medical definition, dead. The organs are kept functioning awaiting transfer to the recipients. The honor walk ends at the operating room where the organs are then removed.

No, they're not. Medical staff don't even know they are donors until after death has been confirmed. Their organs are preserved (lungs are ventilated, hearts are kept beating, etc.) for transplantation. That's why the machines still pick up activity. The brain and body have died, though. They don't cut beating hearts and breathing lungs out of people.
No, they aren't. Their brain has ceased to function and their bodies only continue by the assistance of machines. Once the brain has died, the body cannot function. Shame on you for spreading such horrible lies
