RDJ stark honestly shoulve been the face of He Who Remains, and he probably actually is inevitably.
Nobody is questioning whether or not RDJ is a good enough actor to play the role. We all know he’s a living legend. The problem is that anyone who lives through the infinity saga will never not see him as iron man.
Also I can’t see him playing Doom for more than 3 movies if we’re lucky. They should’ve took a chance on a new face but clearly they don’t have faith in their writers and want RDJ to carry as usual.

In my opinion, if MARVEL feels like they have to bring back Actors from the "Golden Age" like RDJ, Hugh Jackman, or even Chris Evans, To carry movies, to bring a bit of balance and make fans happy, make critics happy, have more profit, and be able to produce more epic movies because of this, instead of the politics influenced writings from the writers " BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT TO LOSE THEIR JOBS, obviously", then so be it, im down for it. the perfect description of "Old But Gold"...

It was not a typical "Tom Cruise" role, to the point that most people didn't even recognize him.
We can't blame RDJ for accepting this rule, and say its only for Money; playing Dr.Doom ( one of the best villains in Comic book history and most complicated carachter) is attractive to any actor ... Imagine playing Iron-man and Dr.Doom !!! and be the best for both characters !! This is a legacy any actors dream of.

Excited how he portray as a villain, he’s been known as a hero since 2008.
Iron man is an antihero, he was a billionaire playboy trustfund kid who inherited his fathers weapons business and let his advanced weapons which he certainly had the tech to track and trace get into the hands of literal terrorist slavers. Then after bangin tonnes of broads nd havving his assistant clean up the cum rags and their clothes went on to make her his wife mother of his children. And in the midst of that by his own hands he almost caused the end of the world from tech he alone could have made and unleashed on the world after which he joined up with the gov because super powered people were too dangerous(he was the danger) and round them up and put them in a prison in international waters and no trial just for how they were born.
Meanwhile he never destroyed his tech ot the things he made that caused the near world ending event he was almost soley responsible for.... and it just keeps going.
Iron man is a fun character but hes a bit of a shitbag and if he was nuked from the timeline it would probably have been a good thing!

And now they suddenly revealed a whole new villain that's never been shown anywhere, going to directly play in his own movie. This is just Kang's quantumania but with even less build up

Of course it is gonna be 2 different universes but it’s 2 different universes within the same continuity. Fantastic 4 and cap/ the mcu have nothing to do with each other and not only that they happened what like 10 years apart or something. Also Chris Evans is not synonymous with human torch the same way rdj is with tony. The people pointing out that this feels a bit weird are perfectly valid. I myself am cautiously optimistic but we will see.

My biggest fear about this is how he is playing a character who is quite literally known for never seeing his face. The fact we never see it informs so much of his character and his worldview, changing it and making them still feel like Doom is a tall order. One I'd argue is impossible. Between RDJ's star power and ego, there is NO WAY they'll let him keep that mask on the majority of his screentime. But if they do actually keep the mask, then what would be the point of bringing back? Any plot points of "Oh, this villain looks like my friend! Oh noes!" will be practically all a moot point. Also, if we create such a strong connection between this Doom and the preexisting marvel characters, would that lessen the special relationship between Reed and Doom? That can be written around, but I think it would be a misstep for them to not be the main rivalry to one another. As for RDJ's ability to play this role, I really hope he's got the chops to play someone COMPLETELY different from himself. I'm not doubting his acting talent(he got a deserved Oscar for crying out loud), but the man seems to have a level of ego that brings at least some of his "Downey-isms" into every role he's done.
Ultimately, I really don't like this casting at all, but it is nonetheless interesting as hell. They need an absolutely phenomenal story that convinces me that this choice was "necessary" instead of desperate to win me over. At least with McFeely attached, I have some level of confidence it'll end up good, but honestly that is the main thing keeping me in any way hyped for this.
Agreed. RDJ just literally pulled what he did in the first film revealing " I'm Iron Man" ... in this case "I'm Doom". Now everybody knows it's him and all they'll see si RDJ+Tony Stark playing Victor Doom. BAD CASTING

Marvel needed something to revive them. If the year was 2015, we would not have gotten such a lame reveal, but it is 2025, Marvel is failing badly. Cillian Murphy would be a more fitting choice for Dr. Doom than Robert Downey Jr. due to his ability to portray dark, complex characters with a chilling intensity. While RDJ excels at playing charismatic and witty roles like Tony Stark, Murphy’s cold, calculating demeanor and piercing screen presence align perfectly with the regal yet sinister nature of Dr. Doom. His nuanced performance style would bring a fresh and menacing depth to the character that could truly capture the essence of one of Marvel’s greatest villains.
Robert Downey Jr., you immediately think of a charming, playboy millionaire-he's synonymous with Tony Stark. While he excels at that charismatic, witty persona, Dr. Doom requires someone who can embody a darker, more menacing presence. Cillian Murphy's intense, brooding demeanor makes him a more fitting choice for Doom, bringing out the character's cold intellect and underlying malevolence in a way that RDJ's signature style might not capture.

This comic-con improved my hype for Marvel movies a lot
- Captain America Brave New World will have a serious tone like Winter Soldier, and will pick up several plots from the mcu
- Thunderbolts have an interesting cast and can have a very different dynamic than the Suicide Squad
- And Fantastic 4 has a lot of talented people on various sides of the production.
Between Deadpool and Wolverine and this, things can be better

I love the reasons why RDJ could be Doctor Doom, but I have a more poetic reason although he would keep the name Tony as he transitions to Doctor Doom:
We've seen Tony go through his Best life recovering from being a philanthropist playboy billionaire asshole with the help of Pepper Potts being his anchor and keeping him from drifting off as a horrible person as he continues making suits and wearing the name Iron Man... What if Tony Never Had Pepper in his life to keep him on the path to being a hero? Maybe she died causing Tony to lose more of his heart as he lost the one who he would devote his heart to. Maybe she never entered his life and his bachelor life continued giving him enemy after enemy throughout the Ironman series of MCU movies and he turns colder as he just Slays each of them one by one, or maybe even absorbing their life force cause he could down the line learn how to absorb particles from lifeforms such as humans.
Either way, I feel like Pepper Potts would be a Great reason why Tony may become Doom as he goes down a darker path than the path we joined the original Tony on.

I agree that Oppenheimer showed RDJ's acting skills. I was so used to seeing him play Iron Man and cracking jokes all the time that while watching Oppenheimer, I was expecting him to make some jokes here and there.

One of the things I liked the least about the post-endgame mcu fandom is the impatience, you haven't even been 1 day after the announcement and they already think it's garbage, one of the worst castings in Marvel, etc.
I believe that if Feige makes such an important decision it must be for more than just "easy guaranteed success", he cares about narrative and learning from some failures
To be fair the last like 10-15 movies have been nothing but build ups for secret wars. Before endgame movies actually fit in the movie and didn’t entirely rely on a build up for a bigger movie.
I'm honestly less pissed at the casting and more upset that this might mean they're completely ditching Kang after all the last 4 years of buildup. I know Anti-Man 3 did him dirty, but he's still a really interesting character and I want to see his full story, not have him just written out off-screen and hand-waved away to be replaced by Doom halfway through his own saga.

Since the Marvel world has already introduced the multiverse concept, it's clear that this version of Dr. Doom, aka Victor Von Doom, is a variant from a different universe. Although he may resemble Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man), he is a distinct character. The multiverse allows for endless possibilities, making it exciting to see him face off against Marvel heroes. The twist of him looking like Tony Stark but being a different person altogether will surely create a thrilling and challenging situation for the heroes to navigate.

RDJ auditioned for Dr Doom before but wasn’t chosen, shortly after he took on Iron Man and the rest is history. This was something that Im sure took little convincing for RDJ to come on and do something he legitimately wanted to do before. Im just happy they moved on from Kang because him as the multimovie big bad like Thanos was just not hitting.

Doom will be like Vader, nobody will see his face and even if they do show him maskless he'd have so much makeup, CGI and prosthetics he wouldn't be recognizable as RDJ, the actor and character will be as disassociated as Vader is with David Prowse, the first name that comes to people's minds regarding Vader is James Earl Jones. It's a bold move but as long as Doom isn't just a variant of Tony it should work.
Doom funded Reed's experiment that created the FF, their story takes place in 1960, my theory is that the FF and Doom were in the Negative Zone where time moves differently, maybe fighting Annihilus since 1960 and return to Earth in 202? where they were given up as dead and forgotten since 1960. I think Doom's story will be about reclaiming his life, wealth & throne to get revenge on Reed for trapping them in the Negative Zone. Annihilus is the best choice for a secondary villain in their MCU debut imho, the Opposing Force is the yin to the Galactus' Power Cosmic yang, and Galactus the best choice for a full on MCU FF/Avengers/X-Men team up in the MCU proper leading into a Doom controlled Battleworld aka Secret Wars.

That statement does sound strange. No one that know Dr. Doom and have capability of thinking said Marvel should give Dr. Doom to newbie actor/actress, literally no one can think of that kind of crazy idea.
People tend to forget that we are now in the multiverse era of the MCU. Just because they cast RDJ as Dr. Doom, doesn't mean he will ALWAYS be THE Dr. Doom. My theory is that RDJ will be the main antagonist of Avengers Doomsday, but will eventually be defeated by the Avengers itself - or most likely since it's RDJ, they would somewhat "convince" him to become one of the good guys. There is however another Dr. Doom lurking behind the scenes and studying every Avengers in every universe, and how to defeat them - and that will be Cillian Murphy's Dr. Doom. I could be very wrong but I think Cillian (or another actor) playing a much superior variant of Dr. Doom will be the main antagonist on Secret Wars, and RDJ's doom will be on the side of the Avengers during that movie.

@@hithere_1967 it's just what they've been doing with the comics. It allows them more room for creativity and more room for errors or inconsistencies. Sometimes they can completely retell a story differently. I mean if they move the comics to the screen, this actually aligns with their premise.
The casting of RDJ as Dr Doom is fantastic news. It’s a great way to sell the next set of avengers movies to the wider audience due to Downey’s bonafide star power. Feige said that Downey would never return as Iron Man and that they are preserving his death. They will never tarnish his death by bringing him back. However Fiege never said RDJ couldn’t return by playing another character and therein lies the ingenuity in this casting decision. He’s a great actor and I’m certain this is going to be completely unrelated/disconnected from iron man. He is essentially playing a new role and honestly it fits. Doom needs to make a grand entrance into the MCU and with Downey behind the mask, he’ll do just that.

@@jessed5057 No it’s ingenious. Disney are running a business. Robert is their biggest draw. It would be cheap to bring him back as Ironman, that would tarnish and ruin his death and arc. We can all agree. However as doom he will never take the mask off. This will allow Downey to deliver a distinct performance. Completely distinguished from Ironman because by keeping the mask on, this will add to the suspension of disbelief. You have to see it from an artistic perspective. If you were an actor or producer it would make perfect sense. However you are just a fan or a spectator therefore your viewpoint is skewered. I’m genuinely disappointed that the majority of people cannot see the ingenuity in this. I never expected Downey to play doom but now I’m thrilled because he’s going to deliver. This is something worth the investment. No matter what everyone will be back to see this during release, including you my dear.

The winter solider assassination event happens in a different fashion, but unlike just killing the Starks they destroy a lot more which brings Tony’s life at risk too, here Tony is less then a year old child. In order to save Tony they somehow end up in Latveria and die there and Tony ends up getting adopted by Cynthia Von Doom.

In the F4 universe Howard Stark is born 60 years ahead of time and he is named Warner Von Doom. He is from Latveria instead and marries Cynthia (may or may not be a variant of Maria Stark), their son is Victor Von Doom (RDJ), hence the face resemblance.
Doom with the fantastic4 travels to our main 616 timeline. There he notices how big Stark is and all the technological marvel. Some random dude confuses Doom with Stark and later he inherits everything Stark owns. He now has multiverse knowledge, Stark’s money, tech, gov contacts, power and great love and respect from people around the world. With all this he can instantly raise to power, and get shaped as the big bad. Now that people love him and all, he can turn up to something like Homelander.

Imo, you're wrong about the Thanos thing. We barely got anything about the character other than he's big, purple, scary and probably a bad father. Pretty much all the major character points were given to us in Infinity War. Like, his motives, his history, his relationship with his daughters and his personality.
Which, imo, is also why Kang didn't work out well. Instead of teasing, like just showing his face using statues or post-credits, they just had a bunch of characters whoop his ass every other film or TV show.

This is what I keep on saying, RDJ is not always Tony Stark, the guy has some range, actually an Oscar amount of acting range. He is playing Doom now, not a Tony Variant (hopefully)
RDJ does not have range. And look what happened to plenty of other franchises when they try to bring back peak actors years later to inject new life into a fialing franchise ... Ghostbusters keeps flopping despite bringing back the original cast - Doctor Who seems to have run its course despite bringing back the single most popular actor to play The Doctor in the modern era. Reinserting RDJ will not ressurect Marvel if it's flailing. They expanded too far too fast (go listen to Bob Iger since his return to Disney to clean it up > Marvel spread itself too thin - which is why half the shows/series were cancelled - Disney in his absense started cranking out quantity instead of quality because Feige was told to crank up production on the "money machine"). And this shot Disney in the foot due to bad leadership. Which ousted Chapek and brought back Iger to fix Chapek's fuck ups. Sorry but Marvel was affected by the internal politics just like every other aspect of Disney was. And this is a residual result of that.

I actually don’t think they have anything compelling enough to justify completely revamping the character of Doctor Doom. He’s not some vessel for cheap member berries stunt casting he’s an actual character with rich history and specific attributes that make him work. They did this purely out of desperation for Infinity Saga level hype and I’m done pretending Marvel is above this kind of cheap, soulless money grab mentality. They’re not and this proves it.
Agreed Cillian Murphy would have killed this role. He has that charming yet sinister feel.

RDJ is 60 years old, Not only is he 60, but he’s already been in the MCU-as the face of the entire franchise. Bringing Tony Stark back, but as the main villain as a character unrelated to Ironman is insanely dumb.
Dr. Doom is a Fantastic 4 villain and he’s going to have more screen time with freaking Spider-Man and Thor than he will them. Doom is the greatest villain not named Magneto in all of Marvel history, he deserves to be his own man. Not an Ironman-Man variant. The fact that people are saying “imagine Peter taking off his mask and he sees it’s Tony Stark” is absolutely ridiculous, and has nothing to do with Doctor Doom. If you wanted RDJ back, you could’ve just had Superior Iron-man. If you want Doom, a new actor should’ve gotten the role, somebody not already in the MCU and certainly not the face of the damn thing.
