Why Chris Evans' cameo WORKS and John Krasinski's SUCKS

- Marvel introduced two live-action cameos from the Fantastic Four: Chris Evans as the Human Torch in Deadpool and Wolverine, and John Krasinski as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange 2. Both had brief appearances and died to show how powerful the movie's villain is, but Johnny Storm's cameo was well received, while Mr. Fantastic's was not. In this video, I'll explain why.

Lets be honest the only reason we even got that John Krasinski cameo was so Marvel could say “We put him in a movie now stop telling us to make him the official Mr Fantastic”

Another reason is that John Krasinski's cameo served no purpose. He didn't give us any relevant plot exposition or gave crucial information to move the plot forward. He was just another body to be thrown into the gutter. Meanwhile Chris Evans human torch moved the plot forward. He told Deadpool and Wolverine as well as the audience about Cassandra Nova, the main villain of the movie. His death also showcased Cassandra's power and how brutal and powerful she is. Reed's death in MoM didn't. We already knew who the main villain is, we already knew how powerful she is. Reed's death in MoM was pointless and contributed nothing to the movie while Johnny's death in DP3 contributed to the movie by introducing the main villain, showcasing said main villain's powers, as well as being used to motivate the resistance to avenge Johnny and finally take the fight to Cassandra
Bro become a pasta in a second
You missed the part where Reed is talking abour Incursions. Giving exposition and such. We are still dealing with it so no you are wrong
@@toyanthaog5109 that's for longterm, in the movie even credit scene we still don't know the visual of the incursion. His point is still valid, Reed's death serves no purpose in the film. We already saw how powerful Wanda is when she attacks Kamar-taj. Strange warns them about Scarlet Witch, so why do they still want to talk it out? In serious scene they made it like a joke.
@@toyanthaog5109name one timeline that we see destroyed by an incursion. Because i havent seen any go yet making his lore dump irrelavent.
This can be said about both characters they are the same trope
I think you forgot the real reason why the post-credits scene in D&W is so funny. The way the film is set up, the audience is led to believe that Torch respected Cassandra's power if not outright feared her, and Deadpool was lying about what he said (and lying through his teeth when he said that it was how Johnny wanted to go out).
It turns out, everything he said was true, Johnny did say the single crudest lines in the whole movie and explicitly say he wouldn't mind his fate. It's funny as an alleged insult that Deadpool uses to get Johnny killed, but even funnier as an actual insult that he used.
It's even better the second time you watch the movie for this exact reason! All the times DP talks about Johnny, and says Gambit and he must have gotten along because of their weirdly specific profane comments. It's completely woven into the story and hilarious
I think the joke flew over our heads. I think deadpool literally pulls an alternate universe where Johnny says those things as if you notice he stares straight at the camera before he does the speech
Johnny was made to be the reckless and kinda stupid character, even tho it's Deadpool's fault, it's okay for him to die for a stupid reason reed is the SMARTEST GUY ALIVE and died in ridiculous way

Reed Richards is one of the greatest minds in Marvel. He would've thought of something. Not to mention the fact that he thought only 5 people could beat the most powerful sorceress and plus what the other two said.
Tell me bringing only 4 people to an actual fight and leaving one telepath to mess with the most powerful sorceresses' head is a good idea. Reed Richards would've known to bring a lot more, y'know like a sorcerer supreme or every sorcerer or literally an entire army of heroes to beat someone who can alter all of reality just by saying what she want to happen. Maybe even the Infinity Watch to reunite the stones and snap her out of existence since she is in their universe which means their stones can work on her, maybe even bring out some villains to help. Now that would be a true Multiverse of Madness
Because Johnny Storm actually acts like Johnny Storm while Reed Richard's acts like every mcu character.
But he was acting like comic reed richards.

6:49 "Comicbook Johnny should've been able to defeat Pyro easily." Is what I thought too, but in an actual comic it's shown that Pyro has control over Johnny. Johnny only creates flames and projects them, he cannot control fire as a whole unlike Pyro. Although he can't create or project fire, Pyro has complete control over it. So the more Johnny burns, and the hotter he burns, is literally making Pyro stronger too.
I was surprised to learn this after watching the movie a few weeks back.
Yeah, but it’s also shown that Pyro can’t beat Johnny in a fist fight though.
@Standby_JRB Yes and no... Pyro has defeated Johnny Storm a few times, but the comics also have Johnny learning how to counter Pyro over time. Eventually, Pyro has very little chance of besting Johnny in a fight. Johnny can heat himself up to supernova levels, which would fry Pyro. He can project heat without flame, which would also fry Pyro. He can also burn so hot that he becomes plasma, which Pyro has very little control over. Some decent counter options.
But... this is the first time that this particular Johnny has ever straight-up fought Pyro... so it makes sense that he'd lose. Also, it was done for comedic effect. Made me sad to see him die, but at least the film treats him with respect later on. Wolverine is angry at Deadpool for getting Johnny killed, and the refugee heroes clearly care about him... so much so that his death motivates them to join Deadpool and attack Cassandra.
@@JoseNolasco-sz1oxdid they fist fight…
@@Ingel_Riday6690 Also I assume Johnny storm would learn not to use said fire powers to fly around pyro.
Krasinski not being Reed in future films was so soul crushing. He was the perfect casting choice.
I like Pedro, I’m just kind of tired of seeing him in everything.
Seriously, that is what's called burnout. Pedro Pascal burnout.
He's the Nolan North of Disney at this point

Yeah that's why I'm sad about Henry Cavil's Wolverine cameo cause I think he'd be a great actor for the MCU Wolverine but we know they not gonna do it.
Pedro Pascal definitely not Reed Richards
1: Fulfilling a wish just to throw shit in the audiences faces.
2: A fun callback nobody asked for in a silly movie.
In a nutshell:
Deadpool and Wolverine is a parody of everything wrong with Marvel as a late and finally giving endings to characters in comedic ways
For Dr Strange MoM, its literally 75% of America Chavez screaming, 20% of unnecessary BS, and 5% of bad cameos
So you're fine with Deadpool having no real plot and just being gutless fanservice and you get mad that Dr Strange 2 had a plot.
Okey-Dokey...
@@ShadowSonic2 Deadpool is just Deadpool, it works. The character, the game made around it, the comics, and the movies. Not a single one has ever flopped, bec it's just Deadpool.
You can't say the same thing about a movie with lackluster cameos (the only two good ones being snuffed out in minutes) and completely circulated around the Scarlet Witch. The movie is called Doctor Strange 2, not Scarlet Witch, WandaVision already gave us a healthy dose of Wanda and what happened to her post-Infinity War.
@@ShadowSonic2you call that(MoM) shit- plot? They fcuked Stephen Strange's character
Well said
@@ShadowSonic2cope harder bud 😂
No, the real difference is that Strange 2 gave us what we wanted: Krasinski as Reed, and I'm sure we were all hoping Marvel would keep him, but instead tossed aside Krasinski to give us Pascal, so ALL we have of Krasinski is him getting torn apart by Wanda. Meanwhile, we'd already had two movies of Evans as Torch, then had several years of him as Cap, so the reveal of him as Torch was a total surprise and nobody really cared that Cassandra killed him, since we had already had our fun with that character. We weren't missing out on a Chris Evans Torch because we already had it. We missed out on a John Krasinski Reed, though, because his cameo could have led to a starring role, but didn't.
Krasinski said he'd only do one appearance as Reed and not a continuing role, that's why they went with Pedro
No bro Krasinski simply refused to be Reed and only did the cameo as a favor because of how popular fancasting had gotten.
Why do you guys never take into account if the actors even want to play the character or not? Samething with the guy everybody wanted to play Doom, like he just doesn’t want too.
Because the F4 movie is taking place in a different dimension so Krasinski could have still played Reed if he wanted too anyway.
@@Byronic19134 I didn't know that. Thanks.
@@ShadowSonic2He never said that, Marvel never gave him the option to come back. Quote him saying he only wanted to play Reed once.
@@Byronic19134He never refused to play Reed again lmao, where do you guys get this stuff?
If you actually believe that then quote it.
Put it simply, they killed Johnny/Evans as a joke, and they always wrote him to be unimportant. Whereas they had us thinking Reed Richards would have been a key player for the future, only to get killed in like five minutes in the stupidest way possible.
Johnny was pretty crucial for his two movies climaxes.
3:23 let's be real, hugh jackman coming back was already guaranteed to put butts in seats.
Also, little fun fact, Marvel didn't want to include her in any of the trailers, but Kevin Feige approved it so that she could attend the premiere.
it was disney actually who forced marvel to let X-23 come to the premium
Real problem is because Reed died while being out of character (being stupid when he is supposed to be smart)
Johnny died because Deadpool was being himself.
Although in comics you have to admit, for a smart guy, he's made some pretty stupid decisions.
Yeah, let’s inform the enemy the name of the move my teammate is going to use, surely it won’t bite us back.
Exactly and johnny Storm is kinda hothead at the same time
another fact is that captain carter defeated omnipotent god strange in what if and was instantly killed in the movie. like is she strong or weak wtf is the power scaling
Welcome to comics
She had a team supporting her. She didn't do it alone.
It's also not the what if version of captain carter so
If they wanted to kill him off, they should of made him stretch around Wanda and wrap himself around her, buying time for the others to escape. Everyone knows when you want to kill off a fan favorite character, it’s gotta go in a way of self sacrifice, killing of hundreds of minions/big bad, or as a plot point for introducing a new villain.
not to mention, this the first time she came on live-action with the suit
I feel like the main reason I lived Chris's cameo and not John's is how long they were in the movie for. John was in MoM for like 2-3 minutes, Chris was in DaW for like 10-15 minutes. It felt like they didnt care about Reed Richards at all, just had him in the movie for a lottle as just a wink and a nod before killing him in the most anti-climatic way possible. Human torch has a lot happen with him, and he is the catalyst for voth several jokes, as well as several plot points. He fakes us out with his reveal, he is the first instance of Cassandra showing us just how strong she is, his death motivates the resistance to fight, and the end credits scene was one of the funniest jokes in the entire movie. Human Torch has substance, Reed Richards did not
Did you just call it deadpool vs wolverine DvW it's deadpool AND wolverine

Simple answer- John was given a very minimal screen time!! And his character didn't created any impact!! He just came and died

Both the actors played the role well but it's always about writing!!

Wrong. Krasinski cameo did work, the entire premise of saying his cameo didn’t work is just a lie. His bit explaining incursions has been one of the most important and reused clips since Endgame. On top of his death just being amazing when you first watch the movie because you don’t think Wanda is about to go that hard, but she does.

John krasinskis didnt work because they made his mr fantastic a dumbass. Mfer revealed black bolts weakness to the girl who has reality warping powers 😂
Reed Richards giving away key information due to his overconfidence? No that would never ever happen
It's mostly because of it being the most wanted fan casting and Marvel just killed him just for a checklist. I think if John was casted back as Mr Fantastic in the new Fantastic 4 I think more people would be accepting it. Just my take. Still hype for Pascal's take on Mr Fantastic.
I don’t care for Pedro Pescal as an actor after he got all political and compared half the country to nazis because they are different thinkers to him. Honestly I'm more mad at how they killed prof X. Friendly reminder that he fought DARK PHOENIX telepathically and won, yet in MoM he's a wimp in the mind realm.
2:25 I don't know about that part. F4 movies may have had issues but Chris Evans was the perfect humans Torch along with Ben. The human torch, ben and Doom when the most memorable part of the F4. Reed Richards not that much
In fairness, Johnny is fire or engulfed in flames. Pyro, however, has control over all fire and flame. Him absorbing Johnny isn't absurd or inaccurate, in fact he's done it in the comic (Ultimate, if I recall right.)
I think the real question is: How strong is Pyro's ability to manipulate fire? Can he contain a nuclear explosion?
Human Torch's fire is supposed to be so strong he can go supernova. That's why some fans believe Human Torch can overpower Pyro.
@@LeedleLee457 simple, there are strong as the writers need to be.
Correction: You're wrong. Human Tourch is not stronger than Pyro. Pyro can control and manipulate fire. He can easily absorb the fire from Human Torch. In the same way, Rogue used Pyro's power by touching his leg to absorb the fire in X2 when Pyro went nuts on the police at Bobby's parent's house.
No, Johnny high diffs Pyro. Even without his flame, Pyro’s fire can’t melt his skin off in his human form, because his fire is weaker. He may have more control over it, but not more output like Johnny or basically anybody whose fire is weaker than Johnny’s cannot melt or hurt him. Even so, Johnny always beat Pyro in hand-to-hand combat situations time and time again. Johnny clears, albeit high difficulty because Pyro has proven himself a powerful adversary. It’s just funny to see that the MCU nerfed Johnny to oblivion, but they did it for a good reason.
Dude when you consider their power they are not even in same rank,Human Torch should wipe the floor with Pyro every time,he is immune to heat and fire while Pyro is only immune to the flames he controls and he cant generate flames.
All the Human Torch needs to do to win is just stand close by and raise his temperature to the point where Pyro just melts or suffocates.
These are variants. They don't have to follow the cannon of the main universe.

Another point is the reference itself.
For Krasinki the cameo required you to be an active part of the fandom to be aware of the reference
On the other hand a majority of Deadpools fans have probably watched or were familiar with the fantastic four movies and the fact that Chris Evens played two mayor marvel characters. Therefore a bigger percentage of the audience would understand and enjoy the cameo
The point doesn't quite work out when you realise to understand Channing Tatum's Gambit cameo you had to be on the fandom to get it too. It was just as much anticipated as Krasinski, but the difference is it paid off.
Op is right. I think John as reed and didn't even know Tatum was a gambit, those casting choices make me retch. The fans have zero taste and sense.
Multiverse of Madness sucked and Deadpool & Wolverine didn't.

Get out of here. 😤
Unfortunately a character can only be as smart as the person who wrote them. Even if the writer can give them more "knowledge" and "reactive thinking speed", they can't really improve the character's intelligence above their own.
It's kind of like sci-fi films in general. They don't take into account problems related to actual physics because the writers never realized certain things are problems. For example, Ironman falling from the wormhole should've died regardless of whether Hulk caught him or not. The only difference is that he should've snapped in half upon hitting Hulk's arm instead of being turned into canned mush when hitting the ground.
I’m just glad that Ioan Gruffudd wasn’t recasted. It would’ve been a spit in the face for long-time Marvel fans to see the original Mr. Fantastic get killed off as a gag. Not to mention, Johnny Storm wasn’t forgotten about immediately. Deadpool & Wolverine constantly reminded the audience that Johnny is dead
One was a cameo of an old character and a super meta joke
The other was fan casting that immediately got killed off, which felt like a middle finger
Human torch was locked up. Mr. Fantastic was fighting someone in a straight line.
It would of been better if they actually tried to fight Wanda, but there was barely anything. Imagine Wanda using projections to avoid black bolt and have Mr. Fantastic punch a bunch of projection clones. They barely even got to show off their powers, even after being built up.

The mcu is NOT 616. The main comic universe is. The mcu is earth-199999. Just because moron writers at Disney have no idea what they are talking about in regards to how the multi-verse works, doesn't mean that the fans have to also be morons by accepting it.
My problem is easily summed up in two sentences
>Supposed to be the smartest man
>Explains his trump card to enemy
That's on tope of the fact that black bolt trained to never make a sound by accident yet screamed because his mouth was sealed despite inhumans being able to do much more horrific things. On top of that, that is not how sound works. Closing your mouth doesn't reflect your soundwave s back in, it just dampens it a little. His powers should have worked anyway
Mutliverse of Madness would've worked if they portrayed Strange in the way they showed him in Infinity War. Two of the greatest Magicians sparring against each other. That was what people were expecting, Wanda Vs Strange. But even in the climax, we didn't even see a spike of the powers he showed in movies like infinity war.
The worst part about John's cameo is that it was first time he played this character.
I was happy to see Jim Halpert and then they killed him off in the worst way possible.
Here’s why John’s appearance really didn’t work, people had been begging for him to play Mr Fantastic, then when we finally get him the writing was dog shat and his character was just dumb and then he’s killed and then almost immediately the company decides to replace him with a casting no one asked for. Where for Chris Evans appearance the character was already established and beloved by most and his story was already finished so his appearance in dp&w it’s just to show us what happened to those characters after their story was finished and it was pretty funny
3:22 that's kind of wrong, Marvel allowed her to be in the trailer because the actor wanted to go to the red carpet premier.
Tickets literally sold out the week they went on sale
Even Chaning Tatum's cameo was better than that
I liked how they did Elektra justice. Also it kinda messed up that Rambeu, Carter didn’t try to save Reed as Wanda was making him Betty Spaghetti

Thing is Krasinski didn't want to commit to a Marvel multi picture contract.
Why ?
I dont think theres any issues with characters dying, even in silly ways, so long as theyre in character.

Reed didnt form plans, didnt use future tech, didnt do anything except turn into shredded rubber bands...
I didn't complain about Sabertooth's death because that was referenced in XMen: Origins, when Sabertooth asked: "Jimmy, do you even know how to kill me?"

That was literally the best part of that shit show.
If only chess had a time stone on a necklace to undo the loss of our most powerful pieces 🤔
I still believe that the Johnny Storm cameo is a product of the late reshoots and he pretty much replaced the TVA agent that deadpool sent into the void in the opening scene. He also appeared in the trailers getting killed by Alioth.
Both could have served the same purpose of introducing Cassandra Nova
Yeah, the making of this movie is kinda a mess, would explain why it's plot is kinda barebones

Mr. Fantastic wouldn't have resorted to violence against scarlet witch he would've stated he was the smartest man alive and he could solve scarlet witches problem if given an hour, no blood need be shed, and then she can fuck off and leave their universe in peace. It probably would've been more entertaining as well, except because of Mr. Fantastics betrayal of Dr. Strange, he would also betray Scarlet witch leading to a battle between power and smarts, this would've been a better outcome than the quick deaths we got.
Making reed as the dumbest man alive doesnt help him

The tone of Dr. Strange 2 seems like Dr Strange is a side character in his own movie. That’s not a good thing sidelining your main character.
The difference is in who the characters are. Johnny Storm is an idiot who is often way over his head, him dying in stupid ways when acting alone makes sense. It does not make sense for Reed Richards, the world's smartest man, to die in the same stupid way. There's also the tone of their movies. A comedic dumb death works in a Deadpool movie, it does not work in a Dr Strange movie.
I get it. The way they killed Krasinski felt like Marvel was mocking fans instead of giving them fanservice.
I honestly wanted to see John Krasinski play him again and actually get a chance to play him right, because the dr strange just wasted him so fast and made him look so dumb, like yeah i can say he sucked in that, but i feel like the writing had everything to do with it and not the actor idk maybe its just me
3:19 the x-23 thing isn’t true because the only reason they put it in the trailer was because the actor for x-23 wanted to go on the carpet along with the rest of the cast so they let her.
I agree, it still hurts to see that scene after having mentioned his wife and kids. I never felt like it was a properly handled, well delivered cameo.
1:42 That's not how you say the expession.
You have to say it like Steve Martin on SNL... "But, Nooooooo. We have to have him killed off after two minutes."
We remember Johnny's death because he was teased as being Captain Amreica(many forgot Evans played Johnny Storm) , how he was killed because of DeadPool's mouth, and the after credit cut scene. And let's not forget DogPool. 😆
I still think multiverse of madness is overhated. The horror element was new and refreshing for a marvel movie
I was hyped for John to play Reed Richards but when I saw it, even before the spaghetti death, it didn’t feel as right as I thought it would. It’s not just the bad death that makes it not work. I’m glad they did the cameo so we could see if it worked or not.
I totally agree with your explanation. Also I want to see Chris Evans's human torch and John krasinski's mr fantastic and emily blunt's mrs fantastic as one single team of fantastic 4, which will be awesome.
"but if we see a variant from the fox universe, they can do whatever they want with him, it's not if those movies were that good" it was literally peak super hero movie era
Both got turned into food, but at least Johnny had SOME meaning unlike Multiverse of Madness.
That is exactly why I don’t watch movie trailers anymore. Because me having no idea i was going to see X23 all grown up again in Deadpool and Wolverine made it so much better.
Really like how you point out the difference between killing the human torch and Captain American. The aftermatch and curveball that Deadpool managed her is cool
As an office fan how dare Disney insult the actor who plays Jim.
I'm still mad that Marvel went with Pedro Pascal instead of giving John Krasinski another chance, they gave him the most important line in the multiverse saga explaining the incursions and then kill him off two minutes later. Michael Waldron said that he originally wrote a scene were 838 Mister Fantastic regenerates himself and is seen recording the rest of the events of the film at the Baxter Foundation, but that scene was never filmed. So, as someone who really enjoyed seeing John Krasinski as Reed, in hindsight, his appearance does feel wasted.
Krasinski said he wasn't interested in more than a cameo appearance
Yeah, Krasinski gets killed off in two seconds after telling Wanda all their weaknesses and Disney cast Pascall for the ACTUAL live action Reed Richards film. Its not hard to see why fans are pissed.
I just hope Krasinski comes back as Reed Richards
Probably not gonna be more than another cameo at this point since Pedro pascal is playing him in the new F4 movie.
@@aregularhorrorfan4184I swear to god if I see pedo pascal in one more thing bro
@@aregularhorrorfan4184pedro* that was not intentional…
If they brought in Daniel Radcliffe as a Wolverine cameo and didn’t kill him off in a ridiculous way I would be immensely disappointed.
Deadpool and Wolverine is Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness supposed to be.
Gutless fanservice with no plot?
@@ShadowSonic2nah MoM already was that
Krasinski's death wouldn't be bad if they casted him in the new F4
Radcliff for wolverine is some peoples fan pick, I'm not shouting for it
I was more peeved at how Johnny got killed unceremoniously than Reed's death.
8:30 Did you mean Howard?
No, it’s the Disney-vers
They made Krasinski's Reed dumb af in the movie. They forgot that his intelligence is just as high as Stark
It is supposed to be higher actually.
Reed Richards is the smartest character in Marvel comics. He's way smarter than Iron Man
0:36 those random clips ☠️
Human Torch dying like that is acceptable because Johnny Storm is an idiot.
But Reed Richards is one of the SMARTEST MEN in the world. To see him get killed so easily won't sit right with anyone.
*Smartest man alive* meme
Johns cameo was great what? He gave us a taste of his Mr Fantastic before telling us to Fuck Off lol.
John was killed off instantly but jhonny put a good show as human torch first and then died
Still so sad we won't see John Krasinski as Reed. He was perfect 😭
