  • In this episode, ‪@catholiccom‬ Senior Apologist Jimmy Akin joins me to discuss his conversion to the Catholic faith. Jimmy's story is a great one, beginning with an evangelical televangelist and weaving through personal tragedy, serious intellectual study, and eventually landing a job as an apologist at Catholic Answers - a role he's been in for nearly 30 years.
Jimmy shares his journey and some of the arguments that convinced him of Catholicism then, and still resonate today.

It really is hard to name a better Catholic apologist, at least in terms of logic, clarity, and persuasiveness. Every apologist has their strengths, but Jimmy is the best.

One of the best all around apologists in Catholicism and the most interesting podcast since Arte Bell in Jimmy Akins mysterious world.

It’s good to hear Jimmy tell his story because I’m a revert to the Church and my reversion from agnosticism/atheism was one of intellect and reason rather than Divine inspiration or mystical experience. Most testimonies you tend to hear are the latter so it tends to leave people like me feel lesser.

Keep it up you Charismatic Catholic. 😆 😉 Jimmy fed my journey above my RCIA in 2020. I was Protestant until 2021 Easter Vigil. Amen.

I hadn't heard Jimmy's complete story, I really admire how studious he is and the way he carries himself, it's a blessing you chose this path as your career

Thank you for sharing about your wife. I had no idea. I have always appreciated Jimmy Akin; his steadfastness in his faith & respect for the Holy Father makes him one of the only Catholic speakers I encourage my kids to listen to...

Someone once said “Science can’t get you to God; but philosophy can.” However, it’s very easy to get so enthralled with the theology to the point where one begins to neglect the whole point of the thing. That happened to me once. Now, I know that Mr. Akin has been able to maintain the balance between doing theology and doing the works of the faith. I just felt compelled to remind folks of this because I was one who practiced Catholic theology thinking that I was being a practicing Catholic, yet I wasn’t truly practicing the Word. Theology is a wonderful thing to study and learn in that it does help one understand the otherwise befuddling aspects. But one must still be an active member of his or her parish and involve oneself in acts of charity when possible, etc.

I must reiterate the excellent point made by you sir.
I too am drawn by apologetics and had struggled many times with balancing apologetics and my level of faith/holiness, but realised that the correct order is to maintain your own faith and prayer life first before going out to defend the faith.
Similar to the instructions given during an emergency on an aircraft, to secure your own safety first before going to rescue someone else.

@@JimmyAkin Oh, OK, Jimmy. I'm actually moving in the opposite direction from you in a year or so. Moving from California to North central AR....love the peacefulness of the area and the cheap real estate! And the people are so nice.
