- In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by Adam Blai, an expert on exorcism out of the Diocese of Pittsburg. Adam has witnessed hundreds of solemn exorcisms, written several fine books on the topic, and helps to train exorcists in his official capacity in his diocese and also all over the world.
In this episode we talk about the nuts and bolts of exorcism, the stages and signs, why God allows demons to possess, oppress, and infiltrate the lives of humans, and what sorts of things we need to pay attention to and be wary of as Catholic Christians a world increasingly interested in the paranormal.

I've encountered more than one Protestant Pastor who have ended up sending people they labeled as possessed to Catholic priests when the Protestant interventions failed. While as a Catholic I do believe (along with the teaching of the Church) that God is not bound to us, but we to Him, and He can work outside the Church in an extraordinary manner.
As to the Protestant Pastors I've spoken with, some of the people who were referred to Catholic priests went through the Catholic process which starts with looking to see if there is a Medical or Psychological issues first. (in many cases it was and the person under proper medical care was cured of the underlying issue, which the Pastor missed because every Protestant has his own criteria of what to do and believe.) For those who were in fact possessed or obsessed by spirits, the outcome with the priest was good. A few (not all) of the Pastors converted to the Church after the events led them to investigate other claims of the Catholic Church. As to the Protestant who balked about the "ritual" As the Catholic Church has several different Eastern and Oriental Churches that are in communion with the Holy See, There are several different Rites Eastern and Western, so both Catholics and Protestants need to be aware that the external Rites but all Catholic Rites Eastern and Latin Rites are fully Catholic even if they appear different one approved Catholic Rite is not superior or inferior to any other Rite.

Thanks for the video, however should put a disclaimer that if people do this only for curiosity might backfire, in spiritual battle either you move forward or go back there is no in-between.

Is there proof in the Bible that demons are fallen angels? Or are they the by product of the union between the angels that left their post to be with the daughters of men? (Gen 6)
Not sure of the Church's formal position but I believe Heiser's position is sound.
When I was 16 years old, my father‘s cousin whose mother taught her daughters witchcraft and the occult, sought revenge on my father‘s family because of jealousy and envy, that cousin with 2 other witches conspired to allow a demon to possess my whole body, to render me dead…thankfully my father, my step-grandmother and a third individual with a Holy Bible, a crucifix, a knife and 3 white candles began an exorcism the following day, my voice was not my voice but that of a demon, my body began to levitate up in the air and down on the bed, I recognized what was happening but no one could hear me, I had no voice, I was scared and praying for help to save me, I knew my body was possessed by a demon because I was raised Catholic and believed in good and evil and in the angel and demon realm, luckily my father was taught by his beloved mother who was a midwife and did good deeds throughout her life died young at 41 in my father‘s arms, taught my father how to exorcise evil, he lead my step-grandmother and the other individual by reading certain verses in the bible, saying something with a knife in hand and stuck the knife in the wall over my head, placing the crucifix in my left hand, which I threw it at the wall twice, but the third time I, the little me in my possessed body was now battling with the demon‘s force to wanting to throw the crucifix but I with all my strength was holding on to the crucifix, crying out to Jesus to please help me, while my father, my step-grandmother and the other individual were reading out louder and louder and commanding the demon to get out and leave my body…after 20-30 minutes of the exorcism, I finally collapsed on my bed and was free of this demon, then there was a loud, blood curdling scream in the village coming from my father‘s cousin, the witch, occultist…she lost and was beaten…I still remember the details, I‘m 64 now, more faithful and a believer in our Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ
Eastern Orthodox church has a profound tradition of exorcism which this speaker always forgets to mention
I didn't believe it all I mean my family were complete atheists we moved into a house that was like's read a Bible and we were extremely non-believers I thought I had made a brain cancer schizophrenia first even though like 2 friends who didn't know each other when it was my friend and one was my brother's friend as we're young almost teenagers and we're friends did night on and off we've got to experience stuff in the first month that we moved there about 2 weeks apart from each other. By Antonio absolutely absolutely pure people and it got worse noise for like 3 years to the point where it was trying to come back to me and straight kill me outside at daytime and the town is not that small and not that far from Chicago yes the stuff is real it is true you don't have to believe you're really Don't in fact you can disbelieve as much as you want and That will not protect you. Yeah unfortunately I'm more sensitive than even some of my family numbers I get the worst of it and after I ran to a trying to get help and I didn't think I did Snoopy was there that day the thing is gone and left me alone but we had experiences in other places as my area is pretty active I've experienced with a few dead people which were no big deal but that first demonic episode was horrifying and I'm gonna had some other experiences here or there are some areas near my area that I couldn't what they call like a flap area and area where a lot different types of activities occurring but it's actually like dimensional and actually kind of Benign. Then there are over years as I was in adult beginning approaching middle age I'm losing a few places that were bad and I was not being very good in my life and we were having some serious stuff even at daytime and the house where it was actually actually really best of 2 talk forms trying to go in and out hearing growling sounds and choking sounds near me. Show me members of my family and certain areas of herd are names being called over years heard talking of like several people speaking to each other and we'll know and we'll walk to the next Room and find No One. Remember when I was 20 I woke up and I could hear chaining of the evil language I evil son and thing and I left In My Head and looked up and saw this horrific looking creature I've seen shadow farms and shadow Enemies quite a bit Over the years but this was actually like a demonic looking Dane I think it's a Kareena's looking kind of like the goblin Green goblin from the old spider man comic books. The thing is the look on his face just pure hate 8 times a million and yeah once it saw me it like Rose me up I couldn't move anything extra from my eyes at that point and once it realized that was there and it looked at me and it screamed my face and then It vanished. I was like in shock it's like 5 in the morning it's like 20 years old this point I got up My dad was up and apparently he didn't hear it . Well I felt like it hurt my ears from screaming in my face. So I would randomly see different Entities every so often . I was getting in my 30s and things were getting really bad and it was just we were seeing dark enemies we were Avenue doors that opened even the next journey daytime solve doppelgainers a couple times. Wait activate a daytime but at night time it was really creepy. Rowling choking sounds. In dark forms looking like you're trying to go in out the wallets and it was trying to Come through. And around this time also I was having enemies come up and trying to talk to me while I was in bed at night and I didn't say anything to my X wife. So when she started crying and I asked her what was wrong she said she was hearing something trying to talk to her and she was horrified the paranormal horrified or super bad and she kinda blamed me for some of the activity because she could tell that these things didn't like me and I was a little more sensitive when we first got together that first apartment was a little active it was like a dead person it wasn't a demonic thing but it wasn't the nicest either you didn't like us her especially me she had a little I to eat before I moved in and started living in a airpbut she never told me it made herself known to me and that I wasn't welcome early on especially if we went up into it's room we had his high tower up there started dating her in my late 20s and we lived in 2 other apartments after that last one was actually a rental house next where we were having the worst activity that was speaking To us I can't remember what was saying to her besides seen her name in a creepy way it was some of them were Even saying to me uh help me but it wasn't such a low creepy unhuman Tone it was horrifying I'm a guitarist keyboard player and the basist I can hear extremely low tones but this voice was like super active as low and so not Human sounding this is at night time when we're having a worst activity and we would hear our names call the daytime you're talking next to him stuff like that but it was NEVER creepy low tones and NEVER came with these feelings of evil and this badness and we didn't belong to a church none of us had ever been baptized my ex had GONe and tried to ask a few places for Help and they Really didn't WANT us. But scared my accent the worst was sometimes I could get angry I could be extremely strong sometimes I did have knowledge of she'd been out and she was out talking to other guys and doing certain things That would make her jealous or mainly make me jealous and I would know and I would confront her when she could get home. So there were some things that didn't worry us that I had a few things in myself and that I did have a visitor every so often regardless where we live and I still do I have another paralysis attack not too long ago I don't remember exactly what happened I don't know what merit was like I was in another place even though I was here at home and in my bed it was awesome like I was so madame and at least somewhere else and there were like 5 entities off to the left of me standing there and then there was one coming closer to me coming to Ukraine the energy from here I don't know what they do.. So I'm like paralyzed and I'm lying and I'm telling it please don't touch me please don't touch me get away from Me. And of course it was horrifying I can't remember what it looked like I don't know why this is happening still I have serious fear about these things once you kill me I have mysterious health problems like Severe fibromyalgia simmer mountain of auto immune disease but they can't give me a proper diagnosis on things that can't figure out what things out that way they are I think I have a little bit of like crohn's a little bit of a gut bleed but they can't find it on a scope it's making Me anemic pretty bad that and I'm not as open as the best so I don't have any diagnosis of grounds as to like that it's so expective that they can't find it but I drain and tired and I mean for a 40 four-year-old guy to have these use like severe 5 mile journeys are pretty rare things and the doctors find it all quite odd and are at a loss. I have severe anxiety and stuff they thought I would have a high thyroid some skinny with Thai Zion and check the material's loss they're giving me thyroid medication and they said if anything I should be overweight and I'm underweight. And then I'd rather have a lot of stomach sickness and vomiting Also over the last couple years. I really am starting to get the feeling I could look into the Paranormal novel sometimes that maybe there is a God maybe there are Angels to pick that I'm not seeing them I probably have gotten some help from them but I think there's some things hanging around waiting for me and I'm scared to death for when I die and step outside my body for who's waiting for me and whether you might take I'm looking for any kind of help Like advice knowledge anything please message back to me I'll be great
Hei human friend!Firstly i want to apoligeize because English is not my first language,i am Norwegian.I want to say to you that i am proud of you put in your feelings and experiences into words ,that is a good start!Please try to find someone to talk to,i think you clearly want to work with yourself and want to become a better human being,you should be proud of your self.Try to find a tearphist is you can afford it,or try to ask kindly a priest,please,i bealive in you,and you are worth it.And have confidence in your experiences,because your soul and God, Jesus,or whatever that means to you is talking to you,for me is Jesus,he is only love,and he loves you.Try to learn as much of everything in science and spirituality as possible,about your self and others,be kind to your self.Love.Diana.
Protestant response. Respectfully submitted. We do not need a rite of exorcism, because to adopt such an invention would be to surrender the high ground of the Gospel. We are engaged in spiritual warfare every minute of every day, whether we recognize it or not. There is nothing the demons fear or hate more than evangelism and missions, where the Gospel pushes back with supernatural power against their possessions, rendering them impotent and powerless. Every time a believer shares the Gospel and declares the name of Jesus, the demons and the Devil lose their power. Furthermore, there is absolutely no New Testament evidence that a believer in Christ can be possessed by demons. Tormented and tempted? Sure. But never possessed. Once we are united with Christ by faith and given the gift of the indwelling Spirit, there is no way a demon can possess us. As the Apostle John reminds us, "Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." [1 John 4:4]. So, we should respect the power of the Devil and his demons, but never fear them. We do not need a rite of exorcism, only the name of Jesus. We are not given a priesthood of exorcists -- for every believer is armed with the full promise of the Gospel, united with Christ by faith, and indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

that phrase you use: "indwelling of the spirit:" is a real set-up for people who are convinced they're obeying the Holy Spirit when in reality they are in service to anything BUT a holy spirit.
i.e. Joseph Smith, Mohammed, or any other false prophet expressing the dictates of their own indwelling spirit.
Ellen White the founder of the Seventh Day Adventists, also a believer in Christ, yet misled by her own "indwelling spirit". She believed she was in union with Christ and as a result has misled a multitude. The founder of Jehovah's' Witnesses, and all his successors, same.
Deliverance prayers can be said by Christian believers and can be very effective. However if one is confronted with a 12 year old kid who is throwing a liquor cabinet across the room and speaking an obsolete language, that's a next level situation that requires the attention of a man consecrated into Holy Orders, a sacrament established by Christ Himself.
