    @gamexplain regarding subjobs you actually get them by finding shrines near their respective character, not maxing out all their abilities. And the differences between for example Tressa and Theiron’s path actions is that one is noble and one is rogue. Tressa’s is noble so your reputation cant go down while Theiron’s is rogue which means it can suffer.

      The biggest complaint I've seen about Octopath Traveler is that it lacks a cliche "You have to save the world from an unspeakable evil!" narrative, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. We've all heard that story before, and it's become contrived and boring, especially in the hands of a game developer -- I have never played a game yet that has a story that rises above the level of average. A game that features a group of adventures simply working together to achieve their own goals strikes me as novel and refreshing.

    • @BlueSparxLPs
      @BlueSparxLPs Před 6 lety +19

      I don't think it needs a world ending threat, but I do think it could feel anti-climactic if there isn't a final unified boss.

    • @gorkem8680
      @gorkem8680 Před 6 lety +1

      again that's just another video game trope. there is that kit the traveler you find outside of the starter characters town, maybe hes part of the overarching story. But i would rather have 8 unique stories rather than one generic one

    • @amburprice8479
      @amburprice8479 Před 6 lety +3

      Chris Martin
      Having the stories unify at the end does not mean it has a “we all save the world from a greater evil” plot. Get that idea out of your head. Yes, the 8 different story thing is fine, but it would be cooler to have them all intertwine with each other and the order you choose to go in have an impact on the story. Literally can have nothing to do with saving the world.

    The subclasses are NOT unlocked by learning all skills of the main class. They are unlocked by praying to the corresponding god at a shrine. For example, the god of the clerics is Aelfric. So, in order to unlock the cleric subclass you need to pray at a shrine of Aelfric. Sealticge for dancers, Alephan for scholars, etc.

    So the character you pick to start is always locked in your party, but wouldn't' the character whose path your currently doing also have to be included? Like if you started with Tressa but you're doing Ophilia's chapter 2, wouldn't both need to be included (Tressa permanently, Ophilia just temporarily)?

  • @miadestroyerofworlds5735

    You can get the job before you get a class by going to the jobs shrine, the shrines are in the chapter two locations that are connected to the city that you recruit the character. As someone who has no sense of direction I would suggest looking up the locations of the shrines

    I like Primrose the most just because she is the first character I played in the first demo, so when I get the full game, I think I will start her first. The question is which party member should I get next to help Primrose after her first chapter? I think Olberic may be good to go next since Primrose isn't really strong in physical attack or defense and having manpower party member or tank like character is probably best for her.

      Allegryan That just makes more sense, generally speaking. I don’t know if I like the idea of a collection of short stories for a jrpg, personally. Remains to be seen though. It’s a unique concept, but not what I had envisioned when the game was announced. I thought there would be 8 long stories that played into each other.

      Collin McRae there has been leaks proving that the actual advertising is indeed right
      Each traveler has four chapters of their own and the game ends an that's it.

      I agree that they didn’t really misrepresent anything, but I had a different vision in my head, and I don’t really find what they have done to be all that appealing to me, personally. Other than the gorgeous visuals, nothing really seems that outstanding or innovative. I could be wrong though, and I may love the game. I hope that’s the case.

    Honestly, a tip that I can recommend if you want to start off, I'd suggest getting Apothecary second job first, then whenever you get a new character with a lot of JP (Around 630) then you can give them the Hale & Hearty skill early and get a major buff for anyone who is much lower level

      I think I only had it once and... I honestly didn't notice anything different...? I'd assume it might be working like in Earthbound and Paper Mario, where the supriser gets a free first hit, but those games had on-screen encounters sooo, I guess it's random here?

    • @actionjumper42
      @actionjumper42 Před 6 lety +2

    The key to grinding is Primrose, its odd that no videos mention this, but you can basically powerlevel using Primrose's bewildering dance. I once got lucky with a triboost bewildering dance and leveled up my entire party 3-5 times from a single battle because i rolled double 2x xp while fighting enemies of a higher level than me.

  • @NightFlyStudio
    @NightFlyStudio Před 6 lety +92

    I don't think there's a clear message, or there's a disconnect that Acquire/Square is sending vs how consumers are perceiving the game. First, the game is called Octopath Traveler, you should be able to deduce that there's 8 paths to be traveled. I think if they wanted to make sure we knew that, rather than making a more conventional name for a JRPG.
    But then again, we got the producer...director? I forget, saying it's a spiritual successor to FFVI, and besides graphics, it doesn't seem to be the case.
    I think the best way to go into this game is that you're experiencing 8, 10 hour RPGs in one. The lack of interaction is disappointing, but it was kind of expected out of a game this open. I'm just looking forward to seeing how each character's story pans out. I don't want this game to be Final Fantasy VI nor do I need it to be. I want it to be familiar, but at the same time something I haven't experienced and I think they've done a good job of accomplishing that.

    • @paulosousa7210
      @paulosousa7210 Před 6 lety +14

      +PAulo I know that he's referring to the combat...but the combat is based off of Bravely default not FFV or FFVI. And believe me, I've played my share of those games. I understand the Jobs are there, but FF1 had jobs...Nothing of what I played reminds me of FFVI besides the visuals.

    • @NightFlyStudio
      @NightFlyStudio Před 6 lety +4

      +Viorel I wouldn't be opposed to it. Having each character have their own few chapters and then having a cataclysmic event that brings them all together would be interesting, but having that happen after 30+ hours of little to no interactivity between them would be kind of jarring. I'm sure there's a full story to be told, it's how the story will be told that some are worried about.

    Ideal parties would be 1 of each path action type of character, prim and Ophilia essentially have the same interaction skill, as to Olberic and H'aanit, as do Alfyn and Cyrus, however I'd say that Tressa and Therion have the most different path actions, both of their skills are good for your finances, but Therion let's you unlock locked chests, which I adore, and you can pickpocket on a percentage based chance, whereas Tressa passively earns money and instead of stealing, you can buy stuff from people, and on discounts, but some people charge higher for market price on some items, and some people are unwilling to sell certain items from their inventories

    • @carsonc5576
      @carsonc5576 Před 5 lety +2

      It’s also probably the most gripping of the stories. I will be the first one to say that I love Tressa and Therion and basically everyone, but out of everyone- Primrose’s story was the only one which really made me thirst for more and made me really FEEL for her. Like with Tressa, I know it’s gon be a cute lil romp that has her slowly grow into the world’s best merchant. Primrose’s? She could very well die or fail to take vengeance, or find any number of dark twists to her story- and even if there isn’t a morbid twist, I can still be emotionally invested in her wellbeing, and the most obvious conclusion to the story: Primrose hunting down and killing the three crows, is still incredibly satisfying. I’m just HYPE all round.

    • @MegaHOLAAAAAA
      @MegaHOLAAAAAA Před 5 lety

      Sapphire Seer yeah her story feels the most compelling in terms of that revenge aspect, the others still very much have reasonable reasons to travel like H’aanit wanting to rescue her master (sounds weird when she doesn’t say it) and Ophelia helping her family but Primrose’s really makes you want to help her and make those men pay so you’re inclined to love her from the beginning, so great

    There are four chapters with each character so, that's all around 32 chapters, and when you count in the fact that every chapter is around 1 hour, that becomes 32 hours with just the story, but there's also tons of dungeons, loot chests, and side quests, so that could easily turn into a good 100 hours

    There‘s one thing I don’t get: I have the choice of with which character I want to start. But let‘s say I’ve started with Therion; I’ll level up on the way to the next character (let’s say Alfyn). When I play the story of Alfyn, but with Therion in the team, am I not overpowered for Alfyn‘s story foes?
    Did the creators really build in so many variables for these many cases? I doubt it, but I don’t get it.
    I‘m simply amazed of the fact that I can’t really comprehend how they solved this.

    Back in the 2000s. Suikoden has 108 heroes, and have a cutscene according to the party you go with... and harvestmoon has a ton of cut scrne... the lack of communication among traveler in this game could be added in some non-canon cut scene... like when visiting cold area, maybe alfyn ask the other if they’re fine, or prims feels the temperature etc etc etc...
    or maybe, the developer has in mind that the chapter is semi open world, and by adding cut scene could lead to the ambiguity and inconsistencies story development...

      Yeah, I mean I was booking it between towns and not doing any side quests, but I wasn't skipping any dialogue or cut scenes, so I figured even at a more leisurely pace it would only take about 8 hours or so to get all 8 characters. Skipping cut-scenes would make it go super fast, since the dungeons are not very long
