  • Why do I think this week was an Epic fail in the House and Garden Renovation? Well, this week I didn't feel like I had done much work in the garden area. However, I ended up having far too much content to publish all of it. Why do we focus so much on what we haven't achieved rather than congratulating ourselves on everything that we have achieved. It was a full week for me, but I promise next week I will do a little more work.

    LIVING MY DREAMS
Rewind, July 2018, inspired by a friend, I had the ‘crazy’ idea that I would step out of life’s conditioning to enable me to live my life to its fullest. I made the bold decision to leave my job, buy a campervan, rent out my house and go travel the world.
After living in my van for three years, travelling to Scotland, Scandanavia and Europe and living in Portugal through Covid I decided to make a new life in Portugal. I am now renovating a previously abandoned quinta on the west coast of Central Portugal to live a more sustainable life.
I invite you to come along on this journey with me and I hope that I can inspire you to follow your dreams, whatever they may be. Hit the SUBSCRIBE button and join me.. It's easy and free. Just click on the link on my CZcams header.

Susie, LOVE your vlog but two things about gardening: you need a spade to dig out plants and dig deep holes not a shovel, which is for shovelling things, like dirt, gravel etc. Secondly, hot summer isn't great for moving plants. It often kills then because the hot weather is stressful enough at times. Winter and early spring are much better. Teresa

Hi, thank you for your information. I actually wasn’t really that bothered if the Lanterna lived and it was in the way where it was which is why I moved it. But amazingly it has survived the transplant and is growing again. It seems to be a very hard plant to kill.

I discovered your vlog recently and fell in love with it. It's so natural and interesting. Thank you for showing us the renovations and the caves and beaches. There are three more expat vloggers making a home in Portugal: Mr & Mrs Adventure (Brittany and Drew), The Newbys (Tara & John with two adorable little boys, Crusoe and Sawyer, and The Portugal Project posted from a ghost town by a tall, skinny Dutchman whose presentation is quite funny. He seems to be buying up the ghost town and is even planning to open a bar though there is nobody there.
All of them showed fires this summer but only the Dutchman explained them truthfully. He hasn't revealed his name though. He shows mostly how he renovates his home which was more ruined than yours.

Thank you so much, it’s lovely to have you here. I know of two of the three channels you have mentioned. I will have to take a look at the Dutchman’s. The fire risk here is very real and very scary when you are in close proximity but Portugal is very equipped at putting them out very quickly. I have driven through a lot of areas this year with fire damage and it really devastates the woodland here. One of the main problems is because Portugal has many Eucalyptus trees growing, which are not native to Portugal and the fallen bark helps to spread the fire rapidly. We’ve had no rain since Spring so everything is very dry. When the first rains come everyone will breathe a sigh of relief. Thank you for your support, I am so grateful for every comment I receive 🙏💕

The Marigolds are looking beautiful and will be attracting beneficial bees to pollinate the veggies that require it. I think the ferny looking plants might be Cosmos or Cosmea as they are also known. If they are they get very pretty flowers. Instant transformation of an ugly wall - What a difference a coat of paint makes. I'm happy the Lantana was saved.

Marigolds and the ferny flowers are COSMOS. SOME VARIETIES OF COSMOS GET 3 FT TALL AND SOME ARE SHORTER I TEND TO LIKE THE SHORTER ONES. I just cannot believe how Sandy the soil is there I live in South Carolina and my soil is the same way and I have to add peat moss cow manure and good soil into each hole when I plant it because the ground cannot hold any water around here. Compost can only help your plants do better.

Yes I like Cosmos too. I'm looking forward to getting a good compost going at the new house.

I have a lantana Bush, they're very Hardy flowery like tree branches but they stink I think the flowers, have you smelled them? But I think they're very pretty. They take a lot of water. Love your videos much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖 PS I just wanted to say they do not have a stinky aroma it's just when you've been down to smell them they are not a nice smell.

Thanks Mike. I didn’t actually know it’s proper name. The direct translation from Portuguese is cabbage but it doesn’t look anything like an English cabbage 😂 Thank you for your knowledge and for watching
