  • Hey guys! Today's video is all about Flak Suppression, a mission type and tasking for tactical fighter aircraft that has been lost of the annals of history as war fighting in the skies has changed and evolved over the years. Flak Suppression as a doctrine and tactic was developed by the US Navy, Marine Corps, and US Army Air Forces in the Pacific Theatre of World War 2 where aircraft were forces to fight at lower altitudes over geographically isolated targets. We will explore how these tactics changed and evolved from World War Two to the Korean War, and into the Vietnam War where these initial Flak Suppression Tactics evolved into what we now know as Wild Weasels, Iron Hand, and Modern SEAD and DEAD Tactics.
This Video Will also cover how to set up flak suppression in the Mission Editor via Triggers, as well as go over how to fly a Flak Suppression Mission in the cockpit employing both Unguided Rockets from LAU-3 Rocket Pods, and CBU-52 Cluster Bombs!

Just a quick reminder that Flags can also be assigned as variable names. So instead of using "100" for a Flag you could name the Flag "flakon" or "flakoff." This makes flags human readable and much easier to keep track of when the missions have multiple triggers.

@@Spudknocker Thank you for the video! This is the kind of content I love seeing. The F-4 especially, trying to create scenarios that are appropriate to its abilities, can be a little tough. This has given me some good ideas.

Heck yeah, love this stuff. Just please please give us a Vietnam map and a F-105. Wild weasel and flack suppression with thuds would be incredible.

Really enjoy the fact that you are giving us the history behind these tactics. Thank you for the great and informative videos!

I’d enjoy watching an alpha strike of F-4s to take out a big bridge (Than Hoa…or whatever it’s called). Both the Navy and USAF were tasked with taking out these bridges several times. Lots of SAMS and AAA requiring A-4s to do Iron Hand missions and some F-4s to provide flak suppression (and another F-4 CAP flight) F-4s attacking the bridge could use either the GBU-8 TV bomb or the GBU-10

    Hey Spud
Have you read the book "Eject! Eject" by John Nichole? While the book is not about flak suppression, it offers some great stories about pilots ejecting and surviving in Vietnam and other conflicts, too. It also has great stories about the history of the ejection seat. I highly recommend it if you haven't already read it.

I have! If you're interested in that subject I suggest looking up the "Yankee Extraction System" in the AD Skyraider!

Can you connect those barriers around each battery with the unit so you can just copy them or do you have to place every one of them on your own?

so you say "seed" and "dee-ad"? why the inconsistency? why not "seed" and "deed"? when I first started the computer combat flight sims, the manual for the f/a 18 hornet written by a marine jock, stressed the see-ad pronunciation. that goes hand in hand with dee-ad so you don't say that more ominous pronunciation of d-e-a-d.
