love my Man O War comp. Had a Baker, never was right. Put this on almost a year ago. Will never have anything else. No noise, no clunk, easy to find neutral. 2013 Ultra.
Sounds great
Bob and tam, i just now going through this myself. Looking for info on CZcams. You guys handsdown have the best info video on youtube for the moan o war engine sprocket. Greqt job !
Thank you
These guys sound like they know what they're talking about. Some great into there. Great video
Thanks
These guys seem real solid. Definitely a good replacement. Thanks
Good product
Awesome video! They kno what they’re talking about!! Bob an tam great as usual!❤️
Thanks
Outstanding information and video.
Thanks
Thanks for the video, learned alot.
Thanks
Good video and information. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for a great vid an a lot of infoe I have a 2007 ultra screaming eagle CVO ,low mileage on it when I got it, so far all is well, thanks for the vid an I read a lot of the comments, lots of good infoe
Glad you got some help
thanks for all the info will be updateing my comp soon
No problem 👍
Talked to Andrew personally to order a crankshaft. Excellent company. Super nice and built me the perfect crankshaft
Sounds good glad you got it worked out
I’ll be calling you Andrew, my dark horse is very noisy when operating and we did all those assurances. Great video and very informative……
I ended up have to change out the chain too
My Buell shifts better than most Harley's because of the Genius of Eric Buell .. He changed the Sportster engine over to Double shift rails ect..
The best way to get my Buell into neutral is to do it while coasting @ 10 MPH or faster. It's harder to get it onto neutral when you are at a standstill. I recently adjusted the clutch and tightened up the Primary chain .
My Yamaha FZ-07 shifts like Butter compared to the Buell.. It shifts so much better than the bikes from the '70's and 80's that I was used to riding ..
Thanks for the info
You won't give up on this baby I know you love her 🚀🙏✌😇🤘
Will get it right
Awesome video thinks you guys
Thanks for watching
I like your tech videos very interesting
Thanks glad you enjoyed
Some one listened to kevin baxter at skunk works.
There you go
I have a 2013 ultra classic, I replaced the factory compensator with a screaming eagle at about 32K I'm at 69K right now and its just starting to make some of the tell tale noises (the clunk when you shut off and getting harder to find neutral) I've been looking at this option very seriously, I like the fact that its rebuildable, I think this video has convinced me, thanks for the video guys 👍
Glad we could help
Almost purchased Dark Horse to replace my comp on my 2012 Ultra with 34,000 miles. Was concerned with proper alignment with clutch basket. Will go with this one next time though.
Yea I did mine couple months ago and you definitely feel the difference in throttle response huge difference
Mine was a waste of time, couldn't get after sales service, and it rattled like crazy. Only way to stop the rattle was to do the chain up bone tight 😢
Show the inside of your product.
Lmao I mentioned when all this started, you needed a compensator it acted and sounded just like mine did. Completely dismissed it hey your the expert tech.
I had two different noises....first noise was when riding slow speeds
Secound one was clunking when turning off
Andrew is awesome. I have worked with him on two bikes. Their work is legit.
Little O
Very cool
I just installed a Dark Horse Man -O -War on my 12 RG,extremely satisfy to date, also install an hydraulic tensionner SOHB from Oregon at the same time,,,,,and had install my Man O War kit and a HUGE MAJOR improvement over the SE compensator kit I installed last year, not comparable at all,now my bike ride like it was mean to be,not cutting corner like MoCo did to save money, had problem at first with the bolt length that was bottoming due to Loctite in the thread, life is good now ,for those who read this, and tired of the oem design.....
Thanks for the comment
can you elaborate on issue with bolt length? because too much locktite? or bolt too long?
It's a crying shame Harley Davidson HASN'T rectified this problem.
Most of these replacements when you upgrade your engine to higher tourqe and HP. If you keep your engine stock it could last a lifetime
I will install with my current Handen. Ordered everything I need yesterday. I see some people using the Haden but I still have the stock tensioner if I need it.
Sounds good
Everything went well for me, I ground the inner primary to remove the rotor. I have an 09 FXDB.
Forgot to say that my runout was only .0015 total. I'm running the Barnett extra clutch disk and the energy one 10% stronger clutch spring and run Amsoil Super shift ATF. Haden works fine with it.
Andrews 48H cams ss rollers. NO unordinary noises.
I love Man O War products
Good stuff👍👍
Installed @ 70k on 12 ElecGlide on advice of Kevin Baxter Easy install. Excellent operation. Now have 96k miles. Trouble free. I do get the rattle they warn of if your bike is in neutral and the clutch lever is open. Meh, no biggie. Love the ride.
Great to hear!
@@bobandtamsOops… Baxter. 😊
i have a 2012 103 stage iv, i have replace 3 compensators 3 times in six years. I will have to give this a run. may have make a trip up there from lubbock Texas, so y'all can fix me up.
It solve your problem
I bought one from the States, could not stop it from making this horrible noise. Run out less than 3 tho. Was a waste of time and a lot of money. Another mate bought one as well, same problem. Went back to the stock comp. Almost no noise. The only way to stop the loud noise was to adjust the chain bone tight. Mechanic said I would eventually wear bearing and do serious damage. STRUGGLED to get any real help from the company. They called it neutral rattle.. 😢
They are noisy than stock that's far sure. If
you have a stock bike original equipment is good. Problem with doing high performance is it could blow the orginal compensator.
Thanks Guys! Now get it broke in 👍🏻!!!
Will do
Great video! Any idea what the part number for the correct rotor is? My bikes an 09 softail and has the cup on the front with spring pack.
I'm not sure but you can contact Jamie from Speed's performance plus and he could answer that for you
I have a 2015 Fatboy and it's got just a little over 22,000 miles on it as I write this. Which is 07/24/2023, and I have seen other videos about the Man of War compensators, and was thinking about getting one for my bike. Though it doesn't make any noise right now, but' I definitely would like to get one. But' I just can't afford to get one right now, because at 500+ Dollars is a lot for me at the moment. Yes' I'm sure some are going to say' it's better to spend the time to get one before I spend a lot more money later. Easier said than done. But' I will get one as soon as I can afford to.
Good plan👍
Yall can keep the Man o War comps! I put one in and pulled it back out after about 500 miles. Couldn't stand the noise it made. Now I'm stuck with a $600 paper weight.
Sorry to hear that, yes they do make more noise than stock😏
Thanks for the video. Pretty soon and you'll have a brand new bike...LoL
All most
I have the dark horse and a 130 T man nothing in my 2020 is stock except the crank and gear box you can just run to 5g on rpm through every gear and be at 140 mph on gps runs awesome put frame stabilize on as well was windy day i did that pretty sure will get way more out of it but with wind started getting some front end shack so back it down so good enough for me well probably never do the again next time i decided to redo motor there will be a dark horses crank put in and bike will be halled frome Michigan to South Carolina and having T MAN do everything or do my self harley dealer did a good job on motor but tore my motor down then put my bike back in corner in a dusty were house with no cover and tuck 3 months to get back and had 2" of dust on it with finger prints all over it and when i dropped it off all parts were there wont take back there every again I will drive 16 hr one way to make shure my bake is in good hands.
I'm sorry to hear you got bad service. Sounds like your bike is running strong
I need a dark horse crank then I’d feel better lol. I have the man of war on and only have a cam upgrade but to nervous to go more cause I’ve heard it mess the engine up with these man of war comps on
They say use HD compensator but switch the sprocket metal out for George Bryce 400 sprocket metal piece
Man of war is recommended on high torque motors, up grading will not hurt it.
wish they would build one for the early twin cam, I have an extra spring in my 95" stage 4 2000 fxdwg... seems to work but IDK
It's tough when you have a older box let me check with them
@@bobandtams I am in the same boat. Did you ever get an answer? I have a 2000 Harley Springer.
yes you have to get an adapter which will come with it
im reading alot of different experiences guys have had once installing this dark horse compensator? its very loud? I definitely dont want more noise! if its going to make the bike get into neutral easier and less vibration than thats a selling point but what would make it louder and noisier? $500 + for more noise in primary doesnt seem like a good buy for me...i think I may just upgrade the chain tensioner.
It is a little louder. if you've done any real Proformance work on your engine, HD will fail
Can you please elaborate on the rotor issue please? I installed the compensator and it’s crazy loud, I didn’t check the run out but maybe this is the issue? Love the compensator but it’s extremely loud, guess I’ll check the runout… thanks for the video it’s very helpful despite the more questions I have.
Check the Dark Horse website. You need to check the run out, then check the chain tension and examine the adjuster
what will happen if I run the MoW compensator on my 2015 Road Glide with S&S easy start cams? Is it a serious problem? Or is it something that rarely happens?
I have easy start cams SS, No issues
Now I Know Where Andrew Went After His Previous Employment
There you go the answer
Great video! 09 UC here, my stock one is still ok I believe, easy neutral & not too much noise. One noise I do get is occasionally on hot restarts I get a bad clunk & smoke out the air cleaner, buy if I lay into the starter button it usually starts fine. What are your thoughts? 41k miles, 103 TC, 510g cams, SE Phat Shotz, thanks!
Could be a few things. Timing is off, jackshaft on starter is worn or even low battery can cause it to spin over slower or starter drive not enough power so not kicking the jackshaft all the way out. Sounds like they need to take it to their local mechanic.
@@bobandtams My battery is 4.5 years old & thats ancient for an AZ battery. Good point, I'll start there. Timing is fine, starter is probably the next thing to check. Thanks!
Buongiorno questo compensatore è adatto per trike harley davidson flhtcutg anno 2011? Grazie buona giornata
Yes
I just looked in my 2008 Buell Thunderstorm parts book they call it a Rotor Sprocket Assembly 38tooth .. Do they not use a Compensator in the Thunderstorm engine ?
no compensator seems only Harley Has that I can see
Why would a Man-O-War not work for a 2000 Heritage Classic? I am looking to replace my existing compensator, but the Dark Horse website states it does not fit a year 2000 Springer. Baker is the same way. What can I do?
I'm doing some research on it. To be able not to lose you please email us so I can send you what we find out
contactus@bobandtams.com
Guys....I installed the Man o War and I'm have much more vibration at hard acceleration. Is there a break-in period maybe for the VITON bushings? Don't get me wrong...I like it so far. Don't have the tapered torx bolt in yet, or the oil deflector...hard to find them, waiting for shipping.
You probably shouldn’t be riding it if you don’t have the correct parts in place for the application. He explains it clearly in the video what he recommends for the product to do what it’s meant to do. If you don’t have the correct ingredients when baking a cake, the end result isn’t the same.🤷🏻♂️
True that's why they wanted a video to solve some issues out there
I put a Baker Compensator and their Chain Tensioner in my 12 because I wanted to make my bike ‘bulletproof’ and now the primary whines so much it’s starting to drive me crazy. Baker doesn’t seem to want to help me, so I’ve got $800 tied up, and I’m not happy.
Sad to hear your troubles
Need to buy George Bryce metal thing look up star racing
Dawns here 🌞why are no other women here? I really feel at home in a garage and Working on machines is second nature to me.
Thanks for watching
perhaps ask the women that? or do you expect us to force women onto the site?and what's that got to do with compensators?
👍
Thanks
What am I missing? You wanted a half inch of chain movement, you had a quarter inch and said it’s good?
We rechecked at 100 miles. That I didn't folm was now at 1/2 inch
What The Correct Torch For 2016 Roadglide Ultra Primary With DarkHorse Compensator?
it should be in the instructions. I'm thinking 150ft lbs
So did that fix your second noise? They didn't show if anything was wrong with the stock compensator.
Cluncking noise when I turned it off, plus now it is so easy to find neutral
Hey Bob and Tam, I have the EXACT same 2014 CVO Ultra.
I have 40k miles and I'm getting a fairly loud tick/knock coming from the area of the compensator. No trouble finding neutral but the bike sometimes sounds like the battery is low when I start it.
Does any of that sound familiar to you and do you recommend this new compensator now that you've had a chance to ride with it?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks very much!
Noie yes hard to start I put easy start cams in it
Thanks! Now that you've been riding with it for a while, would you recommend it? I'm trying to decide if I should go with the factory Harley compensator or this new one. Any feedback on your experience would really help me with that decision. Thanks again!
@@cannonskier1 it is a little noisy but worth it. HD just doesn't build a quality onre.
Very happy with my install. HD had problems with compensators from 10-16. They had like 5 designs. That says something.
Dark horse says not to install S&S easy start cams with this compensator
That chain deflection looked more like 1/4in am I looking at something wrong?
Not much to it
I saw the same thing, 1/4"
I don't understand how the compensator issue made it hard to find neutral? are you able to explain how that effects finding neutral
There is a verified problem with Harley-Davidson Big Twin compensating sprockets. The compensating sprocket buffers torque from the engine and the limitations with this part may be most obvious in newer, big bore engines. A part that was adequate in an 82-cubic-inch engine may not be adequate in a 103-cubic-inch engine. Harley has not issued a recall. The company is, however, selling a reinforced compensator replacement kit, part number 40274-08. The symptoms of a bad compensator are a loud clang at start up, trouble shifting into first or neutral and a sound like gravel in the front of the primary around 2200 RPM. But, the only way to know for sure that you have this problem is to pull the primary cover off and look.
@@bobandtams thanks. I hope I did not seem condescending. I just wanted to understand how one effects the other
@@whatyoumakeofit6635 I wonder too but it did fix it
I have a 2011 FLTRU, I assume I will need a oil deflector, where can I get one? Harley part number?
You can go to Dark Horse website and buy one. darkhorsemoco.com/man-o-war-motor-products
Anyone know where you can get the tool to check the run out.?
Darkhorse sells them for $85
I would like to get to 1 for my 99 rk but didn’t c 1 listed.
Let me check give me all your info on your bike
Why did you not go with a manual chain tensioner?
I have one now
Sounds like compensator
The other huge component is the crappy chain tensioner.
Differently needs to be improved
Just say it,Twin cams are a poor design, still riding a EVO,no compensator problems no plastic chain thingy problems,I hope the Milwaukee 8 is better,it's def fast.
Thanks for watching
Out of stock online, probably be better get speeds install it anyway 👍👍
Very true
is there any of the gopro footage
We used 2 cameras on this not sure if we used gopro. I will have to look next week, we are out of town.
How do I find the oil deflector piece. Or is it in the kit?
Comes in the kit
My kit didn't include it! Harley sells it and the main bolt separately though. It's a screaming eagle part.
What are options for 05 twin cam?
You need a rotor kit to go on Manager runs about 125 to 150 extra
Hey Guys ❤️💪🏻
Hey Skippy
90 k on my stock one when will it need to be replaced?
If you have upgraded your motor, pr run it hard....If you hear cluncking noise when turning off replace it
where are ya'll located
Shop is in Rapid City South Dakota
I have a 1973 flh. Can this compensator work for that model
No it will not
Thank you
In my humble opinion, the Torx bolt should be discontinued, All of the Torx on GM brake calipers, have been superceded with Hex bolts because of a Very High Failure to be removed without damages.
Very true was auto mechanic for over 25 years.
Change out chain tenisoner
Went with screaming eagle one
You mentioned getting false torque readings but never said what anything is torqued to
Would you like all the torque specs for the job... It wasn't a how-to video. We recommend that everyone should check the specs for the bike you are working on. The was a 2014 CVO 110. I'm not sure what false readings you are speaking of
Why didn't you turn on the bike to show the people that difference in sound
I should of
Nothing for Evo bikes 😢
sorry
@@bobandtams hard to believe that the aftermarket has totally forgotten about the Shovelheads and Evo's
@@kennethwise7108 seems most after market is 2014 and up
Motor Co. puts a compensator in for a reason to absorb engine pulse , take it out something else has to do it, say no more.
Thanks for the comment
they clearly mention in the video that it has a cushion drive to absorb that
@@mvrigger Yeah thats what they say, didn't like it in my ride, went with the S E comp bike is smooth and this is even a better price.
Gee wiz...for $18 replace the darn bolt. Do you understand what happens to metal when torqued repeatedly to 175 ft lbs? Cheap insurance.
Good point, but really, you should replace all bolts that are torqued and should be replaced. Most major manufacturers recommend it. One rule is to look at the bolt to see if it looks stretched.
@@bobandtams Mostly agree....low torque fasteners can be reused, but for me, anything over 100 ft lbs in a critical application should be used just once. Even if it never fails, just the piece of mind I have when riding hard is worth the small additional cost. We spend $2500 on clutch basket and compensator....what's a few more dollars to alleviate worry.
r u serious ...you dont even crank it up after the install ...really !!!
Yes we started it and rode it away. If you want to hear it you can check the Myrtle Beach Rally rode it all the time
@@bobandtamsObviously talking about showing it. Usually install videos show results, it’s supposed to be common sense. No offense intended.
@@freebehindbars8654 you can see ither videos of us riding the bike to hear it
Not a really completely informative video here. One, there's no mention of cost. Two, there's also no real explanation of what is meant by this "rotor" replacement. I'm assuming he's talking about the stator rotor. If so, what I'm seeing in this video doesn't look removable. More info or an example would have been nice.
We will have an update on your questions on up coming video. Meeting with them Wednesday
Sound Sucks
Sorry maybe you could do one
Why are you doing a video with guys in the background making all kinds of noise...come on guys!!! Jeesus
