  • Found this rusty vise at the scrap yard. This machinist vise has the angle attachment which is perfect for my future projects. I know this isn't a perfect restoration but its good for what I'll be using it for.
    The stuff I used for this restoration:
    Workshop Hero Metal Rescue
    amzn.to/2zTTdAl
    Dry Coat Rust Preventative
    amzn.to/2NMJXpU

    Have to tell you I’ve rescued 2 drill press vises in similar condition in the past couple years- popped each of them into the ultrasonic for 15 minutes with simple green and water- which removed a surprising amount of rust, then I disassembled the units and boiled them for 20 minutes which changes the red rust to black oxide. Blew the parts off and oiled everything and they work and look fine.

    Nice job! I would have spray painted and the colour would have been vintage green wrinkle. Beautiful vice!

    Very nice job! I just did one similar. A palmgren no. 5. I painted with the Hammerite dark green. Great job on this.

    Nice job, looks handy with the angle piece! Is that rust preventer any good? Got a few steel pieces on some of my tools that gradually rust, could do with some of that

    Have you ever tried a penetrating solution of 50%acetone and 50%transmission fluid? It’s supposed to penetrate better than PB Blaster or WD 40. Personally, I’ve never attempted it.

    I used to do stuff like this as a kid when I’d find rusty around tool. Eventually I started burying my dads pliers & stuff so they rust than I’d clean them up. He didn’t like that part.

    Nice job. But it is not perfect. U forget to hide the hole screws when U are prepare painting. The best thing U do is anti rust.

    I call this a vise cleaning rather than a restoration.

      If this isn't a restoration, then what constitutes a restoration?

    • @PainterFRO
      @PainterFRO Před 4 lety +7

      @@adameaby Something that involves more than a chemical bath and a wire brushing. Notice that I said, "I call this". It's just my opinion. I guess I'm just used to restorations that involve repairing, replacing and machining or making new parts.
