  • In this video i explain why I think that for most people Gas deserves a closer look. It will usually be a better option for most applications. For most people, they will automatically think Electric is better, but electric has some heavy hidden costs...

I love gas engines. motorcycles, skis, cars, whatever. rebuild engines myself... But you can't say a gas cart is simpler than electric. I own an electric cart. I literally has 5 parts total.... for the entire system. Stupid simple.
Those 5 parts do cost more than gas for sure. I ride mine around town... 5-10 miles a day. I recharge every 3rd day. You simply plug it in when done for the day, wake up and you have a full tank. Super easy. I have enough carbs to keep clean and oil to change without adding one more. So for things I just want to work I have electric... chainsaw, weedeaters, edgers, blowers, pressure washer, golf cart... all electric.

On the maintenance tip, I bought my first cart ten years ago, a 1982 club car. Being the smart guy I am I immediately "adjusted" the governor to run wide open. Ran it like that for about five years till it wouldn't run. Had a friend come take a look at it. Turns out internal combustion engines are supposed to have oil in them. How was I supposed to know, 30 year old golf carts don't come with manuals. Filled her up and away she ran.

We're looking into golf cars to keep at the campground we stay at during the summer. I would rather a gas powered one, but the campground doesn't allow them, due to them being loud. The electric golf cars are a lot quieter.

Not really. With lead acid electric you have to deal with battery water level and corrosion prevention/ cleaning. They recommend monthly water checks for the batteries to make them last. Gas, just fill up and oil change once a year which is faster than checking the batteries and no acid mess to deal with.

I really want a gas cart!! I currently have a 36 volt electric cart. It just doesn't have the power that I want. I have priced getting it converted to a 48 volt, but haven't made up my mind. The main reason I have an electric cart is, I carry it on our camping trips. I found out through a golf cart dealer that most campgrounds don't allow gas carts, especially in Florida. I thought about taking my chances and still getting a gasser but will see!!

  • @CMDAVISs
    @CMDAVISs Před rokem +2

Pro and con to both , alot of places wont let you take gas golf carts... number 2 electic is much more simpler and you have less issues and maintenance. number 3 you may say batteries are exoensive but if you spend 20 bucks a month and thats very modest on just gas alone !! not any thing else ! INcluding driving to the store in your truck to get gas or oil and filters or anything for that matter. 20 bucks a month x 12 months is 240 x 6 years is 1440 bucks in gas alone. SO your not saving money by owning a gas and one day that gas engine will have issue or need to be repalced. I can have a electric engine rebuilt for 300 bucks . And they rarley ever go out . I love the gas carts but its really all in what you want. I dont think there is a winner here. Just
make sure the cart can go where u want on trips or do what you want and make the choice. I went with electic because i hunt off of mine and its quiet i can hear everything .. no smells and its just less vibration and noise. SO make a choice and think about it ! GOOD LUCK !!

Maybe this is my experience only, but our gas cart is much more unreliable, it just got back from the shop, and now it’s back in it again, my electric one is charging I’m about to go down the street on it…. Granted the Gas one is much more fun
For me I want an Electric one with a real setup not some daisy chained batteries, it can reliably go (mine goes like 13) 20-25 for 20-30 miles. That’s all I need and charging is so much better than managing an engine, which I realize is fun, but engines become more interesting to me with transmissions, so a single gear gas engine is surprisingly boring, even if I’m a gear head
That’s just my experience! Nice to see yours!

Let me back his statement. As someone that is entering the automotive industry I'd think that it could be the least that I can do.
Let's start with the elephant in the room.
    1. The major difference with the two highly debated cousin Gas and EV is one is, Not only easier to maintain but to, Obtain. Though this is off topic. Look at tesla. Their vehicles cost as much as the newest leading pickup/Baja truck. Famously known as the F-150 Raptor. So that gives us an Idea on how extremely financially destroying these automobiles are. And the only difference is you loose average mileage and you gain debt. Long story short the batteries held inside of these carts are extremely difficult to manufacture and expensive.
    2. Electronic motors are known for instant torque but not power. It's always been known that though electronic motors have no power buildup penalty but could never keep up with the extraordinary power the gas motors could produce. Plus they require no where near as much copper and money. Moral of the story the gas motor is performance wise superior
    3. And like mentioned in the video, most Golf carts are carbureted. Meaning a alloy tube shoots gas into a line that feeds with an even mixture of air controlled with a metal flap connected via throttle body and inserts gas into the engine. But a more efficient way of this process is called injection, Electronic valves open a little line connected to the fuel pump that directly insert the fuel into the valves. Speeding up the process of the engine and making the injection process much more accurate with the air mixture. either way, They both get the job done and though most production automobiles use the injection sequence its not bad to use the carburated route. And both are quite easy depending the cylinder count
    4. weight. Acid batteries. (12V in specific) are 64 pounds each. Most Golf carts requiring 4/5. Making the average added weight around 370 + LBS. Most 2 cylinders via carburetor weight the same with 3X the power/torque
Overview. Electric Is expensive. And very truthful when it comes to maintenance. They're heavy and slow. Torquey but encumbering.
Gas is more powerful but slightly saggy torque wise. They don't require recharges and are much lighter. They take less space and come equipped with stator that can charge not only the battery. But any other accessories without lacking drive time due to electronic motor's.

If you have a gas cart, just add gas and it will be full power up to the last drop. Then refuel it in seconds and you are off at full power again. With an electric, they are plenty fast but get lazy as they run low on charge. If you cannot make it back to the charger, you need a tow from the gas cart. Then you have to wait hours for it to charge.
    Gas is King.
