I honestly have no idea how nobody thought of the double coin at the start. It's been over 10 years since this glitch was discovered, for it to go unnoticed for that long is actually crazy. I think the first double coin is possible for rta runs. The new ssmt spot in section 1, and the triple coin in section 2 are almost certainly not viable for rta runs, since both of them are very precise. - Hry
I remember playing online pre-patch, and whenever this track came on, everyone would throw themselves into the pit.
And even post-patch, they still occasionally did it, with a lot less success.
Yeah, watching people do it post-patch was always funny
I never knew it was patched. As a result, I do not like this track online
Crazy to think this game is almost 11 years old now. I remember getting it for Christmas along with the OG 3DS. I never quite liked it compared to DS or Wii but in high school I'd play it all the time. Everyone would spam SNES Rainbow Road.
I'm surprised snes rainbow road was the choice, Maka wuhu and koopa cape always seemed to be chosen for me
In online always the people were spammimg Music Park/Melody Motorway lol
Nowadays people keep spamming Toad Circuit and I hate it

It's definitely one of the coolest ideas for a track, being able to drive through the castle is an amazing idea as well

I don't know if you accept suggestions, but I think it would be cool to someday have an extensive commented video on one of this TASes, explaining in detail the moves and techniques used, why they're faster, alternative strategies, etc.
I've been thinking for a while about how best I could do something like that, which I have some thoughts in mind, and also whether I want to upload something like that to this channel or do something different

man this was a great course to time trial. i remember after learning the glitch taking it to the online leaderboards. i got somewhere around 1:15 after a few hours of trying it, and thought that was about the peak. but no, this vid blows it out of the water... nice tas man really shows PEAK performance
Thank you :). Mario kart 7 doesn't actually have online leaderboards, the leaderboard shown on the 3ds is just whatever spotpass ghosts nintendo selected at that time. Everyone permanently has the same ones now

It’s so crazy that there are insane TASes like this, while the RTA record is only a few hundred milliseconds behind. You don’t see that often in other games in the series.
I think this could probably go down to a 1:02 now, since there are some new tricks that we have to use that save time that apply to every track, but yeah there really isn't that much difference between what we managed to do here and the RTA WR, especially when you consider that we used different strats here

I actually thought of this double coin strat in section 1 since I main Bowser. Even pulled it off a few times. But the best I ever got was a high 1'07.
Yeah, it's difficult to do. I've been trying to get top players to try it since I do think it's just about viable, but they're all too scared lol

0:29 this glitch is not TAS only, a friend of mine discovered it 8 years ago and showed it to me (although he didn't try the WR at the time, cause he did not care about it). So basically you need to get to the water at the bottom of the pit without touching the rock cylinder. To do that, take a turn as wide as possible to the right into the pit and drop as far to the right as you can (no mushrooms needed, but they definetly help). If you fall right into the water, you should skip a full "lap". I never got to play MK7 since then, but I remember that since I thought he was the only one in the world knowing about that glitch.
It was actually initially discovered in 2011 by otawax903, but yeah it isn't tas only. There are quite a few places you can aim for to pull it off, but the water is definitely the easiest method

I had the world record before the 'fixed' the glitch. My record now seems to have been scrubbed off the records tables. Shame as all I did was race the track as it was programmed (at the time).
The "leaderboard" in game isn't actually a leaderboard, it was just a random selection of ghosts that Nintendo changed weekly

I have lost my game. I was one the world record holder for this time trial. Even though mine was nothing like this one.
It's possible you had the WR, but the in-game times aren't a leaderboard, they were just random ghosts. A lot of people thought they had wr on this track because of that

ik it weird commenting on a 1 year old video but is it a glitch that it shows me at the top at best time for this map with a 1:12 300 something even though i did that 8 years ago.
The in game "leaderboard" isn't a leaderboard at all, Nintendo had a service called spotpass that used to periodically send new ghosts to people (not necessarily the best ghosts), but it was discontinued in 2014

@@omegablackzero2454 Ah, la tabla de clasificación que el juego mostraba realmente en la 3ds no es realmente una tabla de clasificación, son solo fantasmas aleatorios que nintendo envió a través de spotpass. Los fantasmas en Maka Wuhu siempre fueron débiles, por lo que mucha gente piensa que solían tener el récord mundial en la pista.

Is it theoreticly Possible to do the First Lap under 20 Seconds?
It's a bit more complex than that. It's possible to get under 20 seconds in a flap, but not in a full run. If you take the shortcut tighter it's possible to get a faster segment, but it compromises the next segment making it slower overall
@@MKWilliam oh right when i use 3 mushrooms in the first lap than i could come under 20 seconds.So in a full run is it not possible to go under 20.050 Seconds?

The top half of the track has checkpoints that extend out further than the bottom half of the track, so you leave the checkpoints in the bottom half of the track and enter the top half of the track before you respawn

The WR is a 1:03.991, the in game "leaderboard" isn't a leaderboard, it's just random ghosts Nintendo shared with everyone. I assume the fastest is using Yoshi and has a 1:17 or something like that on your 3ds?
@@MKWilliam I got the glitch and got 1:18.661 by using metal mario standart kart with standart wheels and cloud glider beating others ones that have 1.31

How do you tas?
For someone who is new at tasing, we use citra emulator, slow down the game (I run the game at 15% speed), and use savestates to retry sections. There are also some codes which make things easier for us

Even the TAS looks slow. Despite this being the first video game I ever owned, I never play it due to its slow pace.
It's a fairly similar speed to games like mk64 and mk8 150cc
@@MKWilliam Oh yeah, I hate MK64 for the same reason. Even moreso than the 2D Mario Karts. They don't only feel slow, but if you get hit or knocked into offroad it takes FOREVER to recover. But 8DX definitely feels faster, even on 150cc. I play 200cc but even 150cc doesn't feel as puishing as 7 or 64.

Wasn't this glitch patched in a recent update?
It was patched out of online in 2012, it was never patched out of time trials. The patch from last year was to patch out a security exploit, not to patch any glitches
