Gorgeous! I love rock hunting but am handicapped now so those days are over.Went mining in North Carolina several years ago and had a great deal of fun but I had no idea how to polish them. Suppose I could find someone to teach me but handicap has me stopped of having a lot of fun like this. Just have to be happy watching videos. Thanks for sharing.
Greetings Mr. Smith, - I very liked your video, Agate: Find it and Polish it - It was a nice slow pace, good lighting, and camera work. Thanks for your vid. pierre from New Mexico
Turned out beautifully! Love where you live...I live in Southern CA. and so far I haven't stumbled on specimens of any kind. Would love to take a trip to Oregon just to go rock hunting!
Thank you for posting this. I really like the way you put this video together; you answered some questions that have been bugging me. I had a really good rockhounding experience in South Dakota, I found some lovely gold striped agates. I have been doing some amateur smoothing by hand with sandpapers and sanding film, and I wanted to know how the machines are used. I had also been curious about agate hunting, so I really enjoyed your part on finding agates in the soil in Oregon. Very cool video, I really enjoyed it. Also just love your lovely stone as well as the Carnelian.
Wow! That's one beautiful hunk of mineral! I could make some beautiful jewelry with it but it would be such a shame to cut it up. I'm jealous of your grinder! Thanks for the Video Dave!
How cute ,steps on it !!! Lol... I would love to start doing this for a hobby and being out in nature!! Not sure how to start or what to look for tho ..???Oh wow beatiful!! Really beautiful!!!
I like your videos, and I like the agate sandwich you polished up. LOL I too had a bit of trouble watching and I do think it is the camera as well as the terrain and not great camera holding. I'll keep watching, I didn't feel queezy.
hi Dave. what a great piece! really nice job. i found a few large pieces similar to that last week. guess im gonna have to get a wet bench grinder now;) south western Australia
Thank you for your sharing -especially about not blasting the volume. Can understand the ‘life’ thing when it takes weeks or months to get back to a project! Beautiful specimen and a nice job on the clean up and polishing. I think the variations in the top & bottom formations has to do with the speed and the materials introduced at the time of forming. Well, that’s my guess I am not an expert in any way! Thank you again for sharing this process and your ‘Beauty’. By the way, do you name your finished pieces? Regards,
Hello Dave! How to recognize natural black agate? As i understood most of "black onyx"are dyed, right? Want to buy authentic silver mens ring with black agate but afraid of buying dyed glass.
Hi Dave, I would like to know what make and type machines you have, they are great, I am from South Africa and would like to look for something similar here, Great vid.
hey man ! Got any video or good video that could help me recognize places to go and start hunting crystals and stuff :) ? or you go to places where it is legal to pick ?
We found a beautiful piece in the Nehalem that looks like a cheese sandwich with onions inside, or so we called it. Its been a raw specimen family favorite for years.
Is there a reply? Can you give us fellow rock hounders a clue Any legal BLM sights we can check out (natural areas, etc) for us newcomers that want to find just enough to enjoy a "bucket-list" dream before we can't walk or get around anymore? Is it North, south east or west part of the county? Give us a clue or a creek name to at least get to find a little color to make us thrilled to find it ourselves in the natural resource. Please?
I swear I just love your channel... Where would you suggest I start as far as getting a polishing wheel?? I found some of the most beautiful agates at Clackmaet Park here in OC Oregon... :)
You take a deep gulp of relaxing air and put the stone back on the wheel that corresponds with the severity of the scratch. It sucks but that is the only way. Good Luck.
Hi Dave, first time to see your video, I was captivated all way through, and I have a stupid question, but what kind of machine is that? I live in Southern Ohio where the glacier ended and find tons of fascinating rocks (sediment) and never even thought of polishing the agates I find till I saw your video. It would be fun to do. So, if you see this, please tell me what the rock polishing machine is called. Thanks for sharing the video, it was awesome!
hey dave i found a pritty bug stone that looks like a few of those and i dont know what it is can you get back to me so i can show you and find out what it is
Sorry about the jiggles, I don't think its the cameras fault so I'll chalk it up to inexperience, steep and uneven terrain, and a lack of another cameraman.

Just found your videos. Great shows. Aren't there any new ones? Miss your adventures!
It is beautiful! Hope you are still doing all this
heyhey nice one ...thanx 4 sharing
Nice piece. I found a lot of agate on the remote Scottish shoreline. They vary greatly in colour and shape. I think they are the rarer types of agate.
So pretty, makes me want to polish the couple pieces I've found
Reminds me of a piece of apple pie! You have a very good eye. Thanks for the demo.
I also thought this looked like pastry. I was thinking streusel, but I can totally see apple pie as well! 🥧
Wow those final polishing grits do a great job! Dont even need cerium oxide.
I like your videos, and I like the agate sandwich you polished up. LOL I too had a bit of trouble watching and I do think it is the camera as well as the terrain and not great camera holding. I'll keep watching, I didn't feel queezy.

very nice.
I've lived in Douglas county for all my life and wish I could say I knew where this was!

Hello D,
Thanks for the compliment. Be careful, having a grinder is addictive:-)
Grinder, saw, rock shops. The best money saving trick is to always leave your credit cards at home.
Thank you for your sharing -especially about not blasting the volume.

JWow. I want one of those machines.
Beautiful piece. I'm hunting for a machine to polish stones now (as I only have a tumbler at the moment).
Ron's voice is soothing
Nice piece would have been cool to slice in half and get two great chunks to work with.

I've been finding some carnelian in the Nehalem, but this site looks fantastic. Care to share the location?

Hello, check out Kingsley North. Mine is a Diamond Pacific Genie.
Thank you Sir I appreciate your response :)
Don't forget your local lapidary club. You get to use their equipment plus get a lot of friendly advice.
Dave good video a question where you bought your machine
Bought mine second hand from a private party.
Are they found that way because of the trees being cut down or dug up? You on a mountain, near a river? I'm stoked on this wow!

Dave who makes your grinder and polisher company name?
How did you go back and get the deep scratches out? With a course grindstone ? Great vids. Keep up the great work.
You take a deep gulp of relaxing air and put the stone back on the wheel that corresponds with the severity of the scratch. It sucks but that is the only way. Good Luck.

Not sure what kind of cam you are using, but I am horribly motion-sick! Your videos are really cool too, but I just can't watch them without vomiting.
