      You can say that again. When you stand at the starting line you can suddenly comprehend how the shock wave alone from a bomb going off could kill you. The concussion of their launch is unreal. You you have to brace yourself to keep from flipping your camera out of your hands

      Cruzredeye , for the absolute best experience go to Bristol motor speedway in Bristol, Tennessee/ Virginia. You’ll find out why it’s known as thunder valley. It’s in a narrow valley in between steep hills and the drag cars using Nitromethane overwhelm your senses! The sound gets bounced off the narrow valley walls and right into your ears. That along with the smell of nitromethane will give a real gear head a hardon better than JLO at her best!

    • @msmeyersmd8
      @msmeyersmd8 Před 4 lety +1

      Art Tafil I’ve always wanted to go to Bristol. Denver is hard up against the mountains and the stands are very close to the track. The sound bounces off of those red rocks very well. The first part of the track uses an industrial cooling unit to keep the track temperature down for the launch area and 300 or so feet down the track. It seems to work well. Denver is closer to where I live. Maybe I’ll try to get to Bristol this year if the whole country isn’t shut down or quarantined by this GD “plague”.

    I've been going to NHRA and IHRA drag races for 46 or 47 years now. Alot of these comments sounds like they are coming from a bunch of rookies that have only seen a race on CZcams. So many are amazed at 60 gallons to the mile. The last time that I asked at a drag strip I was told by one of the teams, back in 2017 they told me that Nitro methane was $16.36 a gallon (55 gallon drum was $900.00)

    Who are these crazy people in every video without ear protection? These machines can litterally blow your eardrums out.
    For God sake there were people on the starting line plugging theyre ears😵. Myself first time seeing funny cars in the 70's, from the grandstands my Father said " you have to plug your ears and open your mouth to equalize the pressure" Boy he was not joking. You could feel the concussion in your face and chest when they hit the throttle!
    People please wear ear protection when you go to the drags. It's more enjoyable than ruptured ear drums. ✌

      They all basically use the same engine that's based on the Chrysler hemi, though there aren't any Chrysler parts used. I'm guessing that car has Chevy for a sponser.

      Their all independent builders but basically using the same billet aluminum block and cylinder heads. Only real so called manufacturing details are in the body.

      @@ElderNerd Yes, You are correct. Custom machined Billet block and heads with Chrysler Hemi dimensions. all internal parts are aftermarket. Chevrolet is the advertising sponsor for that team. Chevy pays them big bucks to display their logo.

    Over the years I’ve always wondered what do they use for cooling systems since there are no radiators.

    • @szabcsababcsa
      @szabcsababcsa Před 4 lety

      DAM8658 they use the fuel itself as coolant, also the fact that metals need time to heat up, and theres not much time in a run

      Those blocks are poured solid in the cooling system with a substance that is like a plaster of Paris to promote even Cooling the top of the engine stays pretty cool because at the end of 1320 ft if you put your hand on the blower it'll be freezing

    I have been out of the sport for a while. What are these things running these days? 1500, 1600 horse power? 1800? Maybe 2000? Got to be a lot for those times. Last race I watched was in 1966.
