For those who have never been at the track... you not only hear these monsters, you actually feel the compression of sound waves against the body .... from over 100 feet away ....
I've been to Can-Am, NASCAR and NHRA races and nothing is close to the intensive power feeling than the top fuel monsters provide. When they hit the go pedal it shakes your heart. The closet I've come to anything is standing on the flight deck next to a Phantom locked down going to full AB with the JBD raised. It's just something hard to understand. I loved it.
Yes, it's amazing to me that these cars were running 330 mph plus in 1320 ft, then the NHRA pulled the distance back to 1000 ft and they are right back up to 330 plus again!!

@@Crazystuffyousee all I said was they start on alcohol, not gasoline. Pure Nitro is mixed with methanol to get nitromethane. Wayyyyyy to much compression for gasoline. The nitro content is determined by a specific gravity test. It varies with temp, and humidity. The tune ups are aiming at available oxygen in atmosphere. But and this is why it is so potent, nitro gives up a oxygen molecule when it burns, so in a way it feeds on itself... Not to mention, it is still a liquid in the combustion chamber. Gasoline has to be atomized to be effective. And is limited to compression. You can squeeze the F out of alcohol without predetination. Not gasoline.. Hope that helps, very astute to catch the changing of fuel though! Yep, your a gear head!

Fantastic camera.. I live in Home Glen IL which is Exactly 21 miles from this track. I haven’t missed a race in the passed 5 years. Back to the 21 miles. A few weeks ago I was outside and kept hearing what I new was these monsters making there pass but new it wasn’t July so it couldn’t be. Come to find out that it was in fact these cars that I had no idea this race was going on.. so yes I can hear these from 21 miles away..

TV does it no justice. You "have" to be there to fully understand what everyone here is talking about. The smell , sound , vibrations and just pure adrenaline pumping during a launch is incredible and virtually impossible to explain. You have to experience it.

Dean Hilbig Can a boat move on land? water feels heavy because it sticks to you and clothing, not because it has friction. Liquids cannot have friction. Liquids are not solid. The reason things stop moving in water is because of heat transfer. So, now that you know that, try again.

There is no vacume felt on the intake, it's always under load. The top fuel class is the phenom, and mostly since 2x props. The boat leaves in top gear, it's pulling it's Max at say 60' and just trying to hold it out the big end gaining a few rpms. Where as the clutch on land has to lock the crank to the wheels(slip) the water provides this give. But as the car accelerates, the tire keep changing gears by growing. Not so the props, so the top speed isn't there we maxed out the KBhemi at 5800 and climbing a little to a final drive of 23000 rpm on prop shaft at about 60'. That's about when the carbon welds itself solid on land and the car accelerates faster and faster. The 500' shows them at almost 200mph. 220, 230 over next half. See me?

Most drag strips are at least 4000ft long. Some are much shorter making the shut down too short for these machines when something goes wrong. Auto Club Raceway in Pamona is one of the shortest ones out there at 3200ft. Not much shut down time before sand traps. This was suppose to decrease the speeds below 300 for at least 5 yrs. Now there going ever faster then they were going the full 1/4 mile.

I did calculated how much g force they experienced during racing, and it is about 4+ g force.
Add a shot of adrenaline to the fuel !

It's a tank on the front of the chassis. They launch so hard that if it was in the back the engine would choke.

The problem with the tracking camera shots and close ups is you lose all sense of the acceleration and speed.
