Not very many people at US 66 for the Friday night time trials! Stands were empty . The NHRA should take some notes from NASCAR. No charge for parking , and they allow you to bring in coolers instead of charging you $8.00/beer !

Amazes me every time I see drag race uploads from the USA. Empty stands............ I mentioned It before, but I think, there is a drag strip in every corner of every state and every weekend there's a top fuel event in the US of A, I guess. Over here, we have 6 topfuel events during the whole year. The nearest event for me is @ Hockenheim once a year a 285 mile trip.

Having been a drag strip kid since i was seven i can appreciate what these cars can do. Having been with Tommy Ivo, Don Garlits and Shirley Muldowney, I am proud that drag racing is in my blood.
I lived miles away from the only 1/4 mile on Oahu growing up and every Sat night my dad and I would wait till we could hear the big boys start cranking up then we’d drive over in our 68 RS/SS Camaro. Those are some of my best childhood memories getting some fries or a hotdog from the concession stand. I was so comfortable at the track as a kid that I’d fall asleep up in the stands since the races would go past midnight some nights. This was in the 90’s before people wore hearing protection lol so in between my years and years at the track and in garages around loud cars and my love for going to concerts and being right by the speakers plus my years of shooting guns I have a nice case of selective hearing lol.

Up in the stands I measured 124dB and I was 100 yards away. Can’t imagine how loud it is on the pit crew. Truly you feel the vibrations in your body, such a cool experience.
I was probably 7 or 8 when my dad took the whole family to the big USA event over here in Brazil. That was the first time I've ever seen a funny car and a jet car from the 'murica team. I gotta say, seeing a jet car at night was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
They are diesel engines by the end of the run since the spark plugs are melted by that point. The clutch plates weld themselves together. Basically every moving part is destroyed each run.
Its been over a year since ive seen this still mind blowing. The comment made hear too, i wouldn't dought that one bit, one run and everything melted, I've heard after one run, they pull the entire motor apart and rebuild the whole lot, carry sport and mind boggling
For anyone who has never been to the drag races, you need to go. Get pit passes when you go. Best experience on the planet. Especially if you get to watch jet cars. These cars are so loud that the ground and the entire bleachers shake.

There is some really interesting videos that describe what happens to these machines throughout the race on a mechanical level. It's unbelievable that they don't literally explode off the line from the extreme power transfer.
I love this stuff, I grew up with it and many safety and performance advancements from this sport have been adapted for public usage... And battery-powered racing is starting up...so we all know real advancements for battery power will spawn from racing applications :)

Actually correction my tickets are free with VIP passes my dad runs DSR Racing . But basic admission is like 90$ a ticket even less if you find the right place to get them.
No, you need at least 100W of quality sound into the biggest speakers you can fit in your living room. It helps to live a bit away from your neighbours, too.
I enjoy going to the winternationals. Every other year, and taking my Grandkids they love& enjoy it as much as i do. Such beautiful machines with such power & speed and the people who build. Them.😃😀😛😜
I had the privilege to shoot both Top Fuel and Funny car right at the starting line, just over the wall. Needless to say, the percussion in my chest was unreal, not to mention my teeth vibrated as well. My ear plugs were the best in the business, and thankfully my camera and lens held up to the 150 decibels of 2, 11,000 horsepower dragsters, pulling 8g's in a second when the light turns green! Wow!

I've been to many NHRA venues in the past 45yrs. From the Prudhome era thru Sox&Martin, Grumpy Genkins, Don Garlits, Shirley....so many others. We've seen horrific devastation and lives taken. With defeat comes safety. Development in the way these machines are heavily protected now shows how much these men are determined to conquer that 1000ft of real estate in less than 3.5 sec. I've support the NHRA for all the sacrifices these warriors go through at each event. It's worth every penny I've spent over the years.
There's absolutely no other sport on earth as AWSOME as top fuel dragsters and funny cars. You can be sitting 10 rows up and every muscle on your body feels the AWSOME power
To all the people in comment sections I have seen saying Pro Mod should just overrun this class, yeah right. The sheer thrill of a funny car is simply too fun.
I have been to the Rt. 66 drag strip several times. I love to get my nitro fix there when I can but that was a few years ago. But for some reason almost every time the NHRA is there, there is a very severe storm. They even had a tornado touch down very close to the track. It was shown on ESPN.

I have been to Indy for the U.S. Nationals a couple of times but that was several years ago. I wanted to go to the drag strip where you can go underneath it but never was able to.
Can remember when they were trying too set to the 260 mph mark . Too see a 300 mph plus set , is just , just , and with a regularity , almost unbelievable .
I have never been to a drag racing event, but wanted to ask a couple of questions if someone would be so kind to help me. Do the cars go further in competition with the time for the run or the speed they achieve in that run Do they have a manual clutch to release when they jump off the line to start or is it an electronic release of car

Well the engines in these drag cars are literally tearing themselves apart for each run so reliability on this wouldn't be the best..

To all the people in comment sections I have seen saying Pro Mod should just overrun this class, yeah right. The sheer thrill of a funny car is simply too fun.
So many actual "close races" winning by 100th of a sec I saw like 6 that were just so f'n close craziness
I've seem pro stock 16 car fields all qualify within one tenth of a second.

I have been to the Rt. 66 drag strip several times. I love to get my nitro fix there when I can but that was a few years ago. But for some reason almost every time the NHRA is there, there is a very severe storm. They even had a tornado touch down very close to the track. It was shown on ESPN.
It's my favorite drag strip. I've spent all my weekends there last year.
@@AutoMotoCha9L It really is a very nice drag strip but I am only interested in my once a year nitro fix when I can get there. I have been to Indy for the U.S. Nationals a couple of times but that was several years ago. I wanted to go to the drag strip where you can go underneath it but never was able to.

Can remember when they were trying too set to the 260 mph mark . Too see a 300 mph plus set , is just , just , and with a regularity , almost unbelievable .

I have never been to a drag racing event, but wanted to ask a couple of questions if someone would be so kind to help me.
Do the cars go further in competition with the time for the run or the speed they achieve in that run
Do they have a manual clutch to release when they jump off the line to start or is it an electronic release of car
Drag racing is one of the most underrated sports in my opinion
