Nice video. Me personally i wouldve used a grinder to bring down the rust level, then POR34 on the frame. Then used VHT black over it. Love these old rangers.
Great job guys, some people are keeping this little trucks alive, because the high prices to get a new one. New basic truck $30k, old ranger restored $3k.🥰👍smart people.
I have a 2008 Ranger where the bed totally rusted out under a bed liner. Once detected, I did a lot of looking around and was finding beds almost as bad as mine for no less than $1500. I said that I could make a wood one for half the price. So I did. $600 or so for one made of treated wood, Lowes trim, and Lights from ebay. I even dug out some leftover stain a few months later and put it on. Sure, the bed is a bit heavier, but traction is better in the winter.
I've been highly considering doing this on my 07 ranger, as it's sentimental. 3.0 , single cab. That truck got me through some of the hardest times in my life, and basically paved my path to becoming a HD Mechanic. However, being that I got the truck from ohio, the rust is terrible. I got the classic Ankle breather, and my bed is practically non-existent. I think I'll either Engine swap into a cleaner build, or just buy a new Chassis, and completely rebuild the truck out of new parts. It'd probably be easier to get a new Ranger, but the only problem with it is the rust. Engine and Transmission work like new.
Had the same happen, I think the bed liners cause water to get trapped and not drain correctly. Have a 2010 and its bed is totally gone. Never seen something rust so fast
Well done on the bed swap sir... Hoping to do my 05 soon as well, but with a wooden assembly of my own design ... Thanks for all the helpful info you have given me...
Good video, this seems easy enough with limited tools, I also want to take the whole front cab off and repair the floors. Likely much more difficult ! Cheers
The old bed had a lot of life left. My current bed is in three pieces held together by the bed liner. Still works fine as longer as I don't try to walk in it :)
I guess I'm lucky , because my 2003 has a factory tonneau cover , and I don't live in rust country . So my bed is like new still , never been used as a work truck either , so zero damage .
🤦🏻♂️ Don’t use that rubberized undercoating on anything that can rust. 🤦🏻♂️ All it does is hide the underlying corrosion and trap moisture, making the problem even worse. The right approach, IMO, is to grind away as much rust as possible, hit the remaining surface rust with rust reformer, then coating with Fluid Film or another lanolin/linseed oil compound.
@@holieocorneiousgerhart6174 I'd have misted it over with cheap Phosphoric acid with a simple spray bottle, before brushing on Hammerite or it's equivalent across the pond. Phosphoric acid chemically reacts with rust, creating a stable compound that resists further rusting. Cost about £20 and about 20 minutes extra time.
I looked around for a few months for a new used bed for my 2008 Ranger. I could not find anything useful for under$1500. I said to heck with this, I'll make a wood bed. And I did for around $600, using new treated lumber. I built it a smidge wider than normal, and added on a wood tool box. And it is still wide enough to take a sheet of plywood lying down.
I recently got a 2010 and realized to late after purchase the bed was totally gone under the liner. I’ve never seen rust that bad on a vehicle with less than 100k WTF ford…..
A 2006 7’ longbed minus tailgate and taillights is right on 200 pounds. I bought a white one for my white 2009 after a female coworker backed into the RR corner but didn’t install the bed. About 2 years later another woman hit the other corner and bumper. A week later an old woman tapped the bumper at a stop sign. Then in April 2018 another woman nailed the rear on the right side totaling the truck. I was going to finally remove the bed and but cut off and save the left box side until January 2021 I slid down a steep driveway with ice underneath the snow and a little tree put a dent in the lower left box side just behind the cab. I bought that truck March 2011 with 2,405 miles on it for $12,600. Now if women would hit on me instead of hitting my truck. 😳

Finally, someone who actually shows the steps involved in real time process
Oh my gosh man…..you just brought back a ton a memories from my US Navy submarine days seeing that needle gun in action!! Well done!!
Thank you.......Harbor Freight tool, works great
I kid you not 1.5x speed makes him talk at normal pace
It's true
XD, this is funny
😭😭😭
Great job. The PA winters and salt can be brutal.

Painting without rust cleaning 🤣
Great jub guys, but needs to be repeated after month again)))🤘
it'll slow its decay but you aren't wrong
Nice video. My 2004 Ranger will need to have the bed replaced soon. Thanks for the demonstration.
easy job, good luck

Great video. Unfortunately, I have to replace the bed on my Ranger. Thanks for sharing.
thanks. was thinking of doing this myself since i have a giant rust hole (where your stuck/rusted bolt was) that's making the bed lopsided.
Thank you! great video! i can use this on my truck!
Have fun
Nice job fellas 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Excellent video! Gonna work on mine soon

Easy to remove, once you have bed off....do what else needs to done, thanks
excellent good day
Where did you source the new bed from?

Nice and good luck hauling a load of lumber
Very well explained video and excellent job. Thanks.
Sir could you please tell me what kind of a tool and where you bought that at that you removed the rest the outer rust on the frame
Hey those are nice Milwaukee tools, would be nice to get them to sponsor you!

i guess I'm kind of off topic but does anyone know of a good site to watch new series online ?
@Jaylen Skyler Ehh lately I have been using flixportal. you can find it thru google:) -bishop
@Bishop Musa Thank you, I signed up and it seems to work =) I appreciate it!!
@Jaylen Skyler no problem xD
Nice video. Thanknyou for sharing
Thanks One Man
Now that’s a lot of damage luckily I always carry flex tape.
This one needs more than flex tape. I pointed out all the problems to the owner once the bed was removed.
In the frame next time use rp-342 👍
Excuse me sir where did you get the new bolts at the ford dealer
I have a 2007 I would love to do mine thanks
Undercoating a frame while still infected with the rust it’s going to become a nightmare for you in one year. It’s gonna look totally like shit
This is not my truck. We were well aware of the problems and pointed everything out to the owner. Whata you gonna do? I gave it a year myself. Thanks
What would you do other than what they did? It is a older truck so sandblasting frame is a waste. Maybe rust coverter?

lol i needed this video just to see how the evap canister was mounted. ty man
Nice Job
I feel like your plastic box liner may had been partly the cause of your rust on the inside.
Ya, those things are not indestructible. You get a crack somewhere and water is going to find it's way in there.
Informative video... you need some sort of music filler though for when you aren't talking... made me want to fall asleep watching.
Where did you get that bed I'm trying to find one for my ranger but I never had anyluck finding a rust free one cheap.
There’s a place up in Sarver Pa. guy brings beds up from the south
You need to find one in the west where we don't have rust , and get it shipped out east .

Trailer harness wiring
What did u use on the bolts when installing them
He probably used some type of never sieze.
How much would it be to just replace the bed completely
The video was all about changing the bed
I've never seen a vehicle where the shock bolts were inside the motor
i have the same ranger. what is the cylinder looking thing above the spare tire?
That’s the charcoal canister/purge valve for the Evap system

Im assuming this is pretty much the same for an 09?
I can't answer that, don't know
Pretty much identical.
I have a 2010 and needs a new bed...Ford continues to make shit rust...luckily, my truck runs good.
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccckkkk
No to under coating
I would be arrested.

Anything is easily removed by cutting it off xD
Note only works if u dont live in salt belt 😂
You just wasted time undercoating that frame! That still has rust on it....! Should have sandblasted it to clean it........!
I'm sorry Garrett........I realize you are an expert
Absolutely no rust resistance!!!
Cheapest chinese paint, only big con of rangers
What’s that tool you used for scraping the rust off?
Air powered needle scaler. Can get them at harbor freight
Awesome thanks
