I have an 04 Cobra dated 1/19/04 3 months before they closed down the Rouge River Plant ( or DAP) on April 1st. Mustangs were continually built there since 1964. The history of the Rogue River plant is amazing. Raw ore went in one end and finished product came out the other. Do a CZcams search they are very fascinating.

I work at the Wayne plant making the Bronco and Ranger. So much has changed and yet a lot hasn't either. Its awesome to see how things used to be done 30 years ago.
I just bought a 1996 Mustang SVT Cobra Convertible. It was made at the Deerborn Michigan plant. I’m sure the same workers and this video put my car together. 21-K original miles . It looks drives and smells like a new car. I feel like I just hit the lottery driving my new Mustang.
I had a cranberry red titanium frost two tone GT hatchback from the Deerborn plant. Forged pistons, 5 spd, just an impeccable machine. My uncle George got a notchback in the two tone also same year
I'm always in awe of the engineering and tool making that goes into all the dies, jigs, and fixtures on the line. Just Imagine the tool rooms in that place. Ok, people, start over, new generation Mustang design coming from the drawings upstairs, and we want the line modernized for better efficiency, so lets get crackin'.
I had this on tape when I was in preschool. I watch it over and over. One day we had the opportunity to bring our favorite movie to school. We didn’t watch mine because it wasn’t appropriate for kids my age….
I had this on VHS as a kid. Watched it many times! Salute to the UAW American men and women making these vehicles. I'm guessing this was filmed mid-late 1990s? (As this is the 4th gen Mustang being made here.)
I like how there's also a kids version of this same video (and the same production company). But as a kid in the 90s I grew up watching (and rewatching) this version on VHS . The strong narration of Robert Jones and jazz music were a terrific treat of nostalgia.

I went through River Rouge in early 1979 in the sixth grade. They were still building the Mustang II and hadn't switched over to the Fox body yet. We spent two days there & toured Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum.
I’m not a Ford fan but it’s cool to see history in the making. That would’ve been cool when they were building the Pontiac GTO. If there was a film documenting their assembly as well.
I worked in the DAP in the area where they put the Engine in.Completely different. We would drop the whole body over the Gas Tank Drive Shaft and Muffler with the front resting on Saddles.

I bought a 1990 Mustang 5.0, 5 speed hatchback. The hatch never closed correctly. Something was rolling around blocking the locking latch. The engine races and takes a heck of a time to shift correctly as it races up the rpm as soon as I hit the clutch and disconnect the engine from the tranny. Took it to the dealer several times but to no avail. One time every electrical circuit died. Just died. Waited about 5 minutes and it fired back up. The headlight housing cracked, and I had to use duct tape to hold the light bulb in place. The car was barely tolerable. Certainly lived up to its nickname Found on Roadside Dead. Then having STOOPID tattooed on my forehead i bought a 2017 Ford F250 6.7 diesel in 2018. That actually was the best vehicle I've owned. Was absolutely fautless for the first 41,000 miles. Then a few things needed fixing, but the engine and tranny have been totally reliable. I'm now at 111,000 miles and looking forward to many good miles ahead. Im 63 years old so this maybe the last vehicle i own. So Ford has cracked down on QC and improved their production line. I think all three manufacturers have improved but they wouldn't have done so without the Japanese eating their lunch and taking away their market share.
I bought an 86 GT 5.O brand new and had the opposite experience. The car was a joy to own and I put over 325,000 miles on her. During the course of 25 years there was only one time I could not get the engine to start. I was on a ski trip and it was super cold in VT, say -20F. The car had to be towed to a garage and thawed out. The mechanic said the injectors had "iced over" but I think it was a case of icing in the fuel line. Whatever, one time in 25 years ain't too shabby a track record!!
To be fair, the 79-93 fox platform cars had crap electrical from the factory, it was hit or miss...the 94 and up was greatly improved in both structural rigidity and electrical. I had my 1994 gt which I bought in 2016 and got rid of in 2020 (regrettably) and put over 100,000 miles on it (I drive a lot) never had a major issue, I just replaced original parts when they went bad like the ect sensor, original radiator, original fuel pump, and original rear control arms, and original starter. I owned a 1988 tbird turbocoupe which is basically just a lengthened fox body mustang and it was a great car apart from the crap electric system, if you ever get another 86-93 mustang then get the whole electrical system redone! Or just get a 1994 and up model and dont have to worry about electrical issues
9 Miles of assembly line to complete a mustang gt in 1994, and all in a 1 Mile long factory 🏭 or assembly plant?? Had to watch this being I just bought a 95 GT Coupe, Love It!!!
I loved my sn95 96 mustang gt I abused it it was a total beast and the 4.6 was so reliable sold it at over 250k miles cause I have two more mustangs and wanted a truck
Henry Ford didn't invent the assembly line. He did improve on it by having the workers stationary and moving the conveyor belt with the vehicle to the workers who assembled their part, and the vehicle went to another position. Ford also broke down the steps and assembly to the most basic skills so each worker can be dismissed and another take his place with a minimum of training. It was so successful that the rest of the world called it Ford-ism and copied Ford's techniques.
You have to admit, when they brought out basically the entire side of an SN95 Mustang Coupe, minus the doors oc, you were like WTF?? I know I was. After U see it, it makes sense tho

My 29435 mileage, never driven in snow and rarely in rain,...2016 S550 Mustang GT has corrosion on the edge of the hood. Ford promised to help when I called ,but they only had me do a online survey and THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING ELSE...so yeah paint quality at Ford isn't

THose are great engines, also in tbird and crown vic. They live on today (very similar design) in the 6.2 truck motor.

Sadly, that's the only car Ford builds. Everything else is a small pick up/cross over to large overpriced suv's and pick up trucks now.
