Events never make money in the first year. Most don't break even. You have to have enough funds to run three or four years to expect to start making a profit.

This was one of the best events I have literally ever been to, it was a blast. THANK YOU for hosting it William! Plus Michael Reeves kicked my robot 11/10 would spend 2 months on a turtle robot again

Open sauce was fantastic. I had an incredible amount of fun, everybody I met was so kind and the space felt so comfortable, I really hope you'll continue to host it although maybe in a different location? I can't imagine Pier 35 was cheap. Also would allow for more ticket sales. Keep your head up, everyone I've heard from that went had an amazing time, and I know it was a huge expense both financially and mentally so I just want to say thank you for putting it on despite the hurdles.

This vlog felt so feverdreamlike it was like an Adult Swim special but it's somehow real life. Somehow, William makes everything around him surreal.
I’ve been to quite a few youtube/youtuber events - this was the best one, by far. I’m so excited for next year!

The shipping crate at the merch stand was so well-painted! Everything at the event was so cool, but we all understand if next year's event is up in the air :)
As an exhbitor at open sauce, I'd just like to say I had such an amazing time, and so did everyone else that was there, even if you didn't turn a profit you have singlehandedly made the best convention I've been to and I've been to many. I hope you do it again next year, everyone at the convention wanted to go again and everyone who didn't go that I talked to said they would buy tickets for next year. And now that your know what to expect more or less I'm excited to see what you can come up with!
Opensauce was 100% worth taking a red eye across the country to see and then a redeye back home. Might be the best time a person can have in SF. And the weather was uncharacteristically nice. Thank you so much for having all of us and I can’t wait for next year!
any updates on safety third? that truly was the only thing keeping me sane every week and without it i fear that i may spontaneously combust

Open sauce was one of my greatest experiences. I had so much fun and made so many new friends. It was spectacular

I wish I could have gone. It sounded so badass. SF is just too far away for me to get away from my daily responsibilities. If there's an open sauce 2 I'll be there.
I loved Opensauce, I so so SO hope that it happens again next year--and with more sponsors!!! So many people showed up, and it was a great opportunity to meet my engineering icons.
It was a ton of fun. I cant wait for next year. Ill be there. If you can make it next year do it. I met Michael Reeves, Codys Lab, Grady Hill house, Electroboom. Saw tons of cool projects. Next year its going to be even better.

Thank you, open sauce was my first real trip out of Canada, I only made it the one day, but I had a blast, and I'm already planning on coming next year for it if I can.

So you have a convention under your belt now, eh? Welcome to the fold! Hope the sight of seeing the attendees happy and excited was fuel enough for you to keep it up for next year (or maybe organize OpenSauce like... every two years or something)... Also, incredible job pulling off organizing a convention of that size! You have done much better than most first-time convention organizers!

For the record, as an attendee the event was fucking INCREDIBLE and I’m so glad they put it on. Hats off to him for taking on the financial burden of it but MAN did he pull off a smooth running event, especially for a first time.

Hey William, I missed the event because I heard of it too late, so I couldn't save up (need to come from the EU). The list of CZcamsrs was SICK, all my favorite ones, and now I see Adam Savage? My god man, I'm so sad I missed it. I would love to be at one next year, and if you're going to organize it again, would be super cool to hear about it earlier so I can plan and save up money! Thanks man, love all the content and would love to join the event next year if there is going to be a next one.

Thanks for the update on how things are going William. If anyone wants a rough run down of open sauce Swell Entertainment did a break down of the event. She was very positive about it, and knowing the cons she been too it's high praise great job guys!
Honestly, I couldn't attend but seeing the footage of the creators involved and some of the weirdness going on made me feel all fuzzy and warm. :-) I hope you'll carry on in the future and will be able to enjoy it as much as your guests obviously did. :-)

Absolutely loved going to opensauce, day one there were a few minor issues with the food voucher/premium swag line but it got fixed pretty quick after.
The event was handled really really well and kudos to all the staff and the planning that went into the use of space. Also the catering was REALLY good, best convention food I've had.
I absolutely can't wait to go next year, hope the boat comes back!
Edit: It's also so cool seeing myself around in random media from OpenSauce lol, most audience shots of the talks I'm up front

By chance I happened to be in San Francisco the weekend of open sauce and I wanted to come but tickets were sold out :(
I have trouble sleeping, usually cause my mind is racing thinking about 18,743 things I need to do tomorrow but I've never done a 60 hour stretch in 48 hours.
