  • Here’s how to open a can of corned beef. Opening the can can be easy, or an adventure. What if the key breaks while opening the canned corned beef? In the video we show opening a can of corn beef with no problems, and then we show some canned beef recipe complications. For optimal results, always cultivate good karma, but keep a pair of needle-nose pliers as a backup, just in case. For more tips and recipes on using canned corned beef, check out www.myfoodchann...

    Loved the video! I've been eating canned corned beef for years and have broken many a key. It's especially frustrating if you're camping and nowhere near a can opener -it can get really messy! I eat it mixed with onions and mayo on sandwiches. The only problem is the mayo dries up so you have to add more the 2nd day. Or I just slice it up and slather the bread with mayo to make sandwiches - pretty basic way to eat it. My step-grandfather was a war veteran and introduced me to this; plus spam or those little vienna sausages (those are gross IMO but my aunt loves them). Spam and pineapple casserole is pretty good. These are all foods that would survive the apocalypse or a pandemic!

    • @ChefBuckRecipes

      Spam and pineapple casserole!--never had such a thing, but it doesn't sound too bad...I was anti-spam for a long time, but living in Seattle turned me around. We used to eat at a lot of Asian restaurants in Seattle and we encountered many interesting dishes made with Spam, now it's an ingredient I try to always have in the cabinet

      thanks for watching!--I actually haven't had many keys bust on me, but it happens once in a while. Usually I'll just use a can opener and it's not a problem getting the end off...I don't usually get the key as far around as I did this time before it busted...it busted right before the last bend in the can, so I couldn't lift up the top, but I had it opened so much that a can opener would have been awkward...as you can see I didn't fair to well with my strategy. CG's needle nose pliers did the trick, or I could have just used a can opener on the opposite end and then spooned the beef out.

    Oh man this story about opening a can with a key. My wife and I many decades ago were both not allowed to open these types of containers. Even if you get the can open with no problem, that edge around the can opening is razor sharp...when I wash the cans before putting it in recycling, I'm always super careful 'cause I'm definitely super clumsy. I find that after I opened the can (never had a malfunctioning can yet) I usually open the other end with a regular can opener then run the blunt end of a knife all around then push a bit and out it comes. This gets a cleaner, neater product (if that's what you want) makes slicing a lot easier.

I unrolled a key after use to keep as a spare, in case. When opening with the key keep it tightly rolled & parallel with the bottom of the tin, not off at an angle. I slide a sharp knife in at the sides to help it out

      I put mine in the fridge, too then once opened, I slide a knife round the edge to remove the contents.
      Much more simple than shaking the tin!

    Lol i’m a good person I swear! But the very first time I bought canned corned beef and the key broke off immediately and I couldn’t get it back on the can to open it! I was relieved that opening the can with a can opener worked perfectly! Thanks for the tip

    As always, this was a great video ! Thank Goodness for Camera girl! Camera Girl is the “Clutch”! LOL... I slowly saw Chef Buck regress into a caveman. I have never seen corned beef and cabbage made like this, I would love to check out the recipe. Also is there a significant to the white cotton tail on your shirt?

      @ChefBuckRecipes  Před 4 lety +1

      the white fluff ball is a mic cover....I usually make tiny meatballs with the corned beef and use it in a corned beef cabbage recipe...the shot at the end was a batch of corned beef and cabbage that I made by simply breaking apart the corned beef into the pot...it was easier to make like that, but I definitely prefer the meatball method...there's a link in the description to the recipe

    I made a 3 ingredient canned corn beef recipe video last week and the key malfunctioned. I removed the rectangle lid with a can opener but then I thought the lid was kinda shaped in a cool way so that there had to be some other use for it and began to think about it and have yet to upload the video. I think if I had someone to help me with my meat I would not be so easily distracted.

    The needle nosed pliers was a great suggestion! I hate the cans with the key! I want to see you open the can with a regular can opener! Not as easy as it sounds. Very hard to get around the corners!
