    I was at the Kings/Oilers game when he broke the points record. I was young and didn’t understand the meaning of it. I was so annoyed by how many Oiler fans were cheering each point he got.

    He's the top goalscorer, yet if he never scored 1 he'd still have more points than any other player. That's what made him the great one. Thanks for making me love this great game. Happy birthday. 😊

      @Fi Che - yet he has the most primary assists of any player as well. And shooting for a rebound to create a goal is just as important as any other goal.

    One of his 200 point seasons, 2000th point, 51 game scoring streak, 1st cup, etc. Gretzky’s #1 career moment was a missed high stick followed by an OT goal? Granted, it was the playoffs but certainly not his #1 NHL career moment. It set up one (your #5 selection). This must be from the “Leaf Nation” point of view.

      Different eras, better skilled players throughout the league and much better goaltending today; it was a lot easier to score points back then. Gretzky was ahead of his time and the best of his time and nothing but respect to him for his achievements, but the league’s best players now are more skilled.

      @@rbrb3625 When he retired he held or shared 61 NHL records. As of this season he still holds or shares 60 records. He is the GOAT.
      Hold the gambling addict accountable for their own actions, after all, they created their own situation. No one made them gamble in the first place, they chose to do it.

      I saw him play soccer in Brantford on a field outside of a private gym. He very good soccer player.
      I used to in Brantford live. I see Walter often as he go Mail hockey stick to charity, I lived near Post Office on Queen Street. Walter gave me money for a coffee once. I lost my job and my house by gamble. Now Wayne is pusher.
      He not the same as Walter. Walter ask me once how i do.
      I say I used to be Problem Drinker
      but today [I indicate Hooch in brown paper bag],
      I have drink so no problem.
      Walter laugh. I offer him swig of Hooch, he accept and say thank you.
      Walter -good guy--he now dead.
      Never see Wayne much around a Brantford just here and there long time.
      Except he have Classic Charity [baseball or Tennis depend the year], and he bring celebrities--very thin TV Actress because TV add 10 pound and others.
      He friend John Candy § RIP § was the ONLY Celebrity I met who
      BE larger in person than on screen.
      He very BBBBBIIIIIGGGGG. man. ahe wander through crowd and say high.
      His last movie was Wagons Eastward ! ! ! It funny movie. I know a John Stunt Double. He name is Layton M€£¥§£N from Hamilton. He same size as John Candy. He wrestle in bar--“ Blue Beard “. He make good money as stunt double and as wrestler in OWF - Ontario Wrestling Federation. People ask how you not get hurt during stunt.
      He say who says you don’t get hurt. [ha ha joke sort of].
      But I diverge because of Hooch.
      It be not goood that Wayne use fame and fortune to be PUSHER.
      I hope he repent and give a little money to charity ( me).
      I start to run short of Hooch because I gamble too much.
      I have to gather buts , break apart and re- roll for cigarette.
      Now Wayne, he PUSHER.
      MAYBE I bet on Gretzky son-in-law for next golf and
      recoup my losses.
      Gambling is fun but hard to make a living at.
      I Dumpster Dive for a living. It is more pleasant than you think.
      You have to know backside of Derringer’S and where high end restaurant are. Also free stuff in dumpster behind Canadian Tire.
      Must be careful not fall asleep in cardboard dumpster because you can get crushed.
      Best to go to Alleyway with all weather sleeping bag nice old lady give me.
      I sad that Wayne a Pusher now.
      He used to be nice guy.
      Anyway, please give generously when see me--tax receipt issued upon request.
      Have a HONEY Crueller on me because sometimes my charity go to You.

      Please ask Wayne to stop push gamble.
      Give him some Hootch , then he have ‘no problem’.

      Goalies had smaller equipment and used a stand-up style of goal-tending instead of the butterfly stance. The 1980's was like the wild west.

      @@rockandrollmd541 - yes, 66 & 99 were on another level. Above and beyond the rest of the league. Gretzky won the scoring title by 75 points lol ...and beat Tim Kerr by almost the same number of points as Kerr himself scored (and who still finished in the top 10 haha).

    Good video. Some really special moments. Not sure about the last one (Gilmore High Stick/OT goal) I think they could have found a better one than that. Maybe getting the most points in a single season or most goals in a single season.

      Yes, the Leaf bias was strong on this video lol. Gretzky always says his most memorable moment was his first Stanley Cup. I would also suggest winning the 1987 Canada Cup and passing to Mario for the winner in the dying minutes.

    LOL! I love how two of the top 5 Gretzky moments have to do with the semi-finals series in 1993 against the Leafs, yet none of the four times he actually won the cup was not one of his top 5 moments. Can't tell at all this was put together by a Maple Leaf fan.

    According to corwin from bar down, Gretzky isn’t the greatest because he allegedly “couldn’t raise the puck”. He’s right. I think loui eriksson is far superior because he raises the puck at morning skate.

    I absolutely hated him back in the day when my team, the Flyers (I know lol) would play the Oilers. But he IS the best ever, he was amazing.

      Exactly right. His first Cup and winning the 1987 Canada Cup (passing to Mario in the dying minute to beat Russia) are always in his top picks.

    Imagine being such a maple leaf jock sniffer that you would insult the greatest player (and arguably the greatest ambassador) the game has ever known by claiming the greatest moment of his storied career was an accidental high stick in a playoff game.
    It happened nearly THIRTY years ago, leafs media and fans. Get over it already.

      Yes, 21 scoring titles in 20 seasons (including playoffs and Canada Cups/World Championships). 9 Hart Trophies in first 10 years. 17 MVPs in total including playoffs and tournaments and all star games. And 61 official records. Truly overrated.
