  • The Redcat Portal Axle Kit includes a slipper clutch upgrade, with gearing change, intended for the Everest Gen7. Because of the additional gear reduction present in the portal axles, without a gearing change, the Everest Gen7’s top speed will be reduced by about 50%. The slipper clutch system features a lockout system, for those who decide they don’t want the possibility of their drivetrain slipping, but still want the gearing change. In our step-b-step install video of the Gen7 Portal Axle Upgrade Kit Slipper Clutch Upgrade, we'll show you how to swap out the original gear for the new components.

    The Gen7 is a great rig especially looking at the price. Very cheap but quality purchase for getting into the Hobby. Makes it affordable for the ones who just don’t have as much as the next guy which is great. Thank you from me and all the others who support Redcat and support the Hobby in general.👍👍

    Nice demonstration on how to assemble the slipper clutch like how you did it in a slower fashion.👍 great job Redcat

    Great stuff! Now the next step for Redcat.. Make a Gen8 Kit, bet it would be a great seller! No body or wheels, no electronics or offer that as a separate kit. Only reason for bringing that up is I have a build in mind, already have the Gen8 Scout but want to make another rig using the chassis.

    @5:00 if you are like me, and your barrel screw DID strip, dont panic. Apply heat directly too it, use a long neck lighter or heat gun, and they use a T8 star bit to remove the screw. it fit perfectly with no play and came right out.

    Love how they clearly show not a lick of gear grease inside the transmission case.... If you dont put at least a little bit of grease on a hard day of driving the gears can get totally destroyed and will within time... If you have the cash buy a steel gear set and a all metal transmission case and replace them both... Trust me you will save yourself a huge headache down the road... BTW tip for anyone new into the hobby NEVER use a power screwdriver to install a screw into plastic... it spins way too fast softens the plastic and way too easy to strip it just use a hand one and install till it bottoms out and about a 10th of a turn max after

      Grease always helps for sure on any RC model gear set. This in itself is mostly for visual presentation and explanation of this process. Good info regardless. And good tip for new users about power tools on screws pertaining to plastic. That can happen and experience with the tools and RC's help avoid that, but it can happen with power drivers on plastic parts.

    Just ordered the V2 kit . Is it necessary to run the slipper clutch or could you bypass it and run a locked trans like it comes stock?
    If so what steps would you skip in the process?
    Thanks for the info, really looking forward to getting these new axles installed.
    Great install videos, glad you guys make them available.

      Yes indeed you do. The parts identified at approximately 11 minutes are the parts used in the order they are to be put on the shaft.

      Makes sense, I don't blame you. I'm selling mine. That thing came out of the box with a crap turning radius and the inner links rubbing the driveshafts. I tried it once indoors and the spur stripped. I put in a new spur and gave it another quick try and the servo burnt out. I'm so done with it. I have an old SCX10 project that I'm resurrecting. No more Redcat crap for me either.

    Can you put this on the Everest 10

    • @RedcatracingAZ
      @RedcatracingAZ  Před 4 lety +1

      Just the slipper clutch portion - technically yes. But this only comes in the portal axle kit. So you would need the whole kit. Or buy the pieces part by part directly.
