Making an everyday carry knife does not have to be hard, or expensive. Mastersmith Kyle Royer shows you what it takes to make a simple everyday carry knife that has the detail everyone loves. So join us on this fun and relaxing adventure.
The most amazing thing about Kyle is his patience.
Patience is largely what separates the professional from the amateur. I used to work with an old cabinet maker - he would spend 3 hours making a gig to make 1 perfect cut.
This is why he's a master bladesmith, his hand made stuff always looks machined
Thanks amigi
Happy new year
Kyle
I agree.
couldn't agree more
Inspiring
GB, I am a sub of yours as well as Kyle's. I have been a sub since you made a knife out of bacon and quenched it in beer! I love the new stuff you're doing with the bearings, but that lawn mower tapanga/parang is gonna be hard to beat.
Same as Jody, GB. Been a sub of yours and Kyle's for a long time and I agree with you on this as well. Kyle has some amazing knife making skills, as do you. Speaking of which... still hoping to see you make some copper mai. :D
You're Inspiring!
I knew Steve followed Kyle. Nice to see two of my favorite smiths here.
Green Beetle you are awesome 👏🏾
I think this truly shows how you’re a master Bladesmith so much better than your mosaic swords. So clean and elegant made with minimal tools. Shows it’s not the tools that make the smith but your knowledge, thank you!
Don't forget, this guy have knowledge and ability, but also a good amount of talent!
Phenomenal work from a phenomenal Master Smith! Goes to show you don't need a garage full of tools to make an epic knife!
Kyle "Lets make a simple every day knife"
Me "i'll be needing a display case for that knife!"
Dang it Kyle, even if you keep it "simple" you make something that is downright gorgeous to see.
As always, love your content man, to see a master at his or her craft is always inspiring and a true joy to watch.
Hey thanks jOhnn
Happy new year my friend
Dad
@@KyleRoyerKnives a happy new year to you too :D may 2021 be an amazing year for you :)
This was a nice little surprise for us Kyle! Your persistence and dedication to all that hand filing was very impressive
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Be honest. You made this while you waiting for the Excelsior pieces to finish bluing.
Just proof once again that a craftsman is a craftsman regardless of the particular tools at his disposal.
Kyle, you are the quintessential dork.
You make knives with a vision, a vision possible with your tools and capabilities, all while honoring your craft and the object itself. You create, in this case, applying the "more with less" mantra. You set out to realize a dream.
Long live the dork!
Your too kind my funny friend
Cheers from the Ozarks
Dad
Just files and no belts. Your attention to detail is on another level. You got my sub!!!!!!!
Just goes to show that practice and patience matter more than the amount of money that you spend on tools. Great work as always!
thanks kyle, that was excellent. i tend to get caught up in filling my workshop with equipment etc but this was a great reminder that only basic tools and a lot of patience and practice are required to make great knives
Hey thanks Brody. Keep Forging On my friend
Dad
What a beautiful sweeping design Kyle! I love that you forge the blade and the handle to shape before grinding! Your work always impresses me and also inspires me!
Thanks my friend
Merry Christmas and happy new year
Dad
Simple and beautiful!
Well made as always :)
I’m going to start a petition to officially add a G in front of MS. You really are Kyle Royer, Grandmaster Smith. Strong in the forge you are.
Hey thanks J B
Keep Forging On my friend
Happy new year
Dad
Always refreshing to see a MS work with hand tools, and the knife speaks for itself; the maker is more important than tool choice.
I love that you are showing how to do this with simple hand tools that most people can access.
Even your "hand tool" knives look like masterpieces, the time patience and attention to detail always shows in your end piece. Isn't an understatement to say you're one of the best at your craft, certainly the best I have seen so far here on YT thats for sure.
Skills, skills of design, patience, hammer, file, technique it’s all here, sped up, but here. Very cool 😎 loves it
The taper on that tang is really nice.
A true master at work! Incredible how you made this with just basic hand tools
This is one of the best tutorials on a knife build with only hand tools I have seen. Well done!
I do appreciate that you let the process and the result speak for itself without comment. The montage is thorough and involving and I like to think you were listening to that music while making that knife.
I would die to have a "simple" EDC knife made by Kyle.
Okay you’ve just proved it the best Knife maker on CZcams....
Hey thanks
Feeling the love Smoker
Happy new year my friend
Dad
Wow! You make it look simple. Skill and patience right there folks.
This knife has so many details. It is awesome. Great lokking knife.
The level of skill in your hands and your eyes is nothing but awe inspiring. Such a level of personal craftmanship is, unfortunately, rarer these days and it makes me hopeful that people like you around the world keep these skills alive.
We all choose daily what we will make of it my friend. Failure in not final and fear is not fatal. Happy new year mate
Dad
Wow... What a beautiful, yet elegantly simple knife. Who knew something like this could have so many hours dedicated to it!
Hey thanks Brian
Kyle
This is just incredible to watch.
So cool you demonstrated this with simple hand tools... very cool. Never underestimate a file!!! The forging saved some time away from the grinder too. And a quality product. Very reminiscent of the knife making I grew up with... the days before belt grinders... the days before grinders ... period!
Love the use of the Harbor Freight anvil...
Wonderful! I find this way more inspiring than your usual videos. It really shows what can actually be achieved with the kind of setup that most of us have. Thank you Kyle and have a truly great Christmas.
It was especially cool to watch all of the shop tool hacks in this video! Showing the alternative methods will help a lot of new smiths out that don't have all the fancy equipment yet! Just goes to show you can make an absolutely stunning product even without high grade tools! A+
Thanks my friend
Merry Christmas and happy new year
Dad
after watching many of Kyle's videos i think he is the best knife maker out there.i yearn to own that knife.
That's the most badass knifemaking video on CZcams.
No excuses. Simply
Kyle goes from crafting the most intricately detailed mosaic sword, using an assortment of power tools over a period of several months, to making a simple yet gorgeous, straightforward full tang knife with only handtools and elbow grease in one day.
Bravo!
Grazie my friend
Happy new year
Dad

Hey Mike thanks for your transparency about your past. We are with you my friend.
Dad
This just shows that you don't need expensive tools to make something beautiful
Very true. You DO need a ton of patience though. 😬
@@albertledesma5173 I learned that out too when making knives from his course
If somebody want's to start knifemaking... that's the perfect example how to do it! Love it! Not a big amount of tools and a great result!
Oh WOW!! 😲
What a beautiful piece of art!! 😍😍
Even the little Mesters of bygone days here in Sheffield would have tipped their caps to you!! 👍😎
Cheers mate from the Ozarks

Kyle
Beautiful work Kyle, I'm always amazed at how smooth and elegant your able to make that line at the top of the blade before you get to the scales look.
I love that the tang tapers. very cool touch
Amazing result comes from some simple tools.
Meticulous work, as usual. Gorgeous!
Master craftsmanship no matter the tool.
The colored wood handle is marvelous.
Great showcase of your attention to detail even in your quicker builds. Love it!
Back to basics. Awesome as usual!
As always, GREAT JOB

Flawless! Moff Gideon would be proud to carry this!
Merry Christmas 🎄
Amazing job! You did everything the hard way and it turned out awesome!
His workmanship is just outstanding.
Hey thanks
Thank you, this is a wonderful Christmas present
It's kind of nice when the obsession of a family member ends up integrating the whole family into the hobby or the job and that way you get closer together again. On the other hand, I ask myself - what is life like with an absolute perfectionist in the family? "Mom, today there are clearly 5 sugar grains too few in my good morning coffee, improve yourself - regards Son" hahahahaha.
Kind regards from Germany, Andy ;)

Looks great! Love the choice of wood
Wow, so talented Master at his craft. Very inspiring !!
An EDC knife by him. That would be an amazing present for Christmas
beautiful.
Love the idea that loads of knife makers or enthusiasts just walk around with bald patches all over their arms from where they test the sharpness of their blades.
Check the legs also 🤪🥊
That holder you've got in the vice is a brilliant idea. Very simple and effective/easy to use.
Beautiful edc knife right there. Just like everything else I've seen you make. Great job. Keep the content coming plz.
Holy Molly Kyle, you're as precise as a machine!
It's a beauty!

That's a really nice design, Kyle. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for making this video, Kyle. I hope it was as satisfying for you as it was for us.
That is stunning. And to think you can do that with simple hand tools.
Really nice, respect.
Beautiful work!
Amazing!
Fantastic. Love this style of editing too
I agree with all of the comments but the thing that sticks out the most is this Master of blades just showed that if he or any of us lost everything but the love of making blades, that you could literally build a knife with 300$ or less and make something worth 2-3 times the 200-300$ investment. That and he shares almost all his knowledge for free, that is what makes a true Master, passing down the knowledge to and for future Bladesmiths. Thanks Kyle.
When I was a kid I used to make walking sticks with carved horn handles, dogs heads, shepherds crooks and the like.
I did not even have electricity in the shed. The drill was turned by hand under the light of an old paraffin storm lantern. But actually - they were some of the best things I have ever made.
I have nothing else, all the time in the world and the enthusiasm. We think a workshop is a must to do ANYTHING. Its really not...
Amazing Mr. Royer you are truly a master at your craft and the reason I started blade smiting, I love the videos and it is an honor to watch and learn from you
May the Forge Be With You my friend
You’re the man!
Your quality of finish and attention to detail are phenomenal (like on the sword). Respect.
Another beauty again.Conguratulations..
Oh! Another year ender knife.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Royer fam tho I haven't seen Dad, Mom and Josh around while watching this video. 🗡🔥🌟
