- I bought this 2006 YZ250 for $500. The engine needs a full rebuild and there are chunks of metal in the oil.
I'm going to rebuild it and see how close to a modern enduro bike I can get.
Ran a 18 yz250 almost bone stock enduro/hard enduro/woods for a couple years I’ve gotta say it works really good. She did bite me a few times but honestly learned so much using that bike in the way I did.
The cool thing about these bikes especially if you can get it as cheaply as you did is it goves you the opportunity to build it the way you want. You can throw $3k into it and for $3500 you can have basically a brand new bike ready to rip.
This is definitely about the cheapest bike to build. I even got some free parts. I probably could do it for $3500, but it wouldn’t be complete. This will be a thorough build.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with this. I know I made a lot of mistakes building mine up as a cross country bike. In hindsight, I really wish I lowered the compression to make it more enjoyable in the tight stuff. I love my friend's X.
Hey Chuck,
If you ever have this issue where you get mono audio, just create another audio track in your editing software and copy and paste the audio file on the new track, then fade one trade left 100% and the other track right 100%
Thanks. I’m slowly learning about this video stuff. Thanks for the easy idea!
Best tech in the industry at work, can't wait to see how this goes. I can tell you it's going to turn out perfect! Excellent show.
BRC500 !!!!!!
I would love to see a video with your input on cylinder head:squish, compression, MSV, and detonation as modifying these YZ heads is so popular
I don’t think I’ll ever do a full video on that because I’m not an expert. Becoming an expert on that topic takes much, much more time & effort than most people think. I understand the basics, but I’m not qualified to distribute my opinion on the details.
The basic facts are that a YZ head has high compression numbers (close to 200 PSI) and a loose squish (close to 2mm.)
Almost every aftermarket head will have a bigger dome & a tighter squish.
@@ChuckfromTrueTechthank you for the reply! I appreciate you!
the commentary is pretty quiet in this vid. Get a mic. Thanks for all you do.
Great choice of bike, really looking forward to this build.
Great idea, looking forward to it.
Looking forward to see what you think.
I have yz250 I am making changes too also
Yamaha Fan Here. Zachatk1 Has A Video Where He Raced Enduro. Maybe You Can Get Some Tips From Him.
Very cool build!
$500 YZ250 is never a bad idea!
You wait & see.
I know there was a big problem getting parts around covid time, not sure if thats still the case now.
Nah. It was bad for a year or so, but it’s all cleared up.
I thought you already built one, with a 40oz flywheel?
Yep. This is that build, in detail (editing takes long.)
Y Zed. He he. You kanucks. Ive got a 2003 Y Zed F in about that shape. Im halfway thinking of just making it electric. The top end and bottom end parts cost so much, and it might pop again cause its a problem with these.
The ‘03 5 valve was a good engine. Definitely expensive to rebuild though.
Whyyy Zeddd?
Lol. You Americans think we’re the only ones who say it the right way.
