That is a major problem within the Japanese tech tree. You get these vehicles like the N1k2 or the Ki-61 II which are at high battle rankings for no apparent reason. A 6.0 prop is something like a Ta-152 or a P-51 H. Something powerful enough to rival a jet. The N1k2 is nowhere close to that performance. Rip
The problem is a majority of the props in the Japanese tree fall into one BR range performance-wise. 2.7-5.3. Outside of the J7W and Ki-84 there is nothing to go 5.7-6.7. In fact, if you gave everything competitive BRs there would be a BR gap from roughly 5.7 all the way up to 7.3 or 7.7 with very nearly nothing in between. The bigger issue is there isn't much at all that can fill that gap without getting into things that never flew. Thus there are quite a few aircraft that are higher in BR and the only reason I can think that they are there is just so there is something there. The higher N1Ks being the best example.
The reason is the high win % of Japan.
Because the player base loves to turn fight everything. Thus the nation with the most maneuverable aircraft will be heavily favored. However, once you get a competent group of players together, just two is sufficient and 4 is just not fair, Japanese planes largely become moving targets that are more difficult to hit then they are dangerous. Granted everything pretty much gets that way because teamwork trumps most everything.
High win rate, vehicles performance from before raised their BRs but after game mechanics changing they became decent/good enough planes (or the enemy planes got buff to their standarts) but they never got their br changed.

I remember getting chased by this thing in my P51-D-20 couple years back and no matter what i did (yes i dove to more than 900+ km/h) it was firmly on my tail. I started unlocking my Japanese tree due to that incident only to find out it was brutally nerfed.
The other problem this thing has is the gun. In comparison with American cannon say on the F4U C variant whose quick burst is enough to blow up enemy mid air, the Japanese sushi squeezers just aren't lethal enough to kill after making your opponent over shot. (Which is what you do majority the time)
You managed to set that Yak3 on fire pretty much at the tail end of your opportunity, but you were an excellent shot, 99% of other people would need to reset.
Japanese planes at that BR that are pleasant to fly out are the Ki-84 and maybe the J2Ms.
Haha yeah apparently this thing was very good years ago. BR took years to go to 6.0 after the nerf.
I prefer the Japanese 20s to Russian 20s, they do the job usually.

The J2Ms have crazy climb rate but also have control stiffening at high speed from what I remember so meh.

When I'm flying Germans I felt like an average pilot it usually takes two or more passes to finish off a pray. When I'm flying Japanese I felt like I'm a great sushi chief serving hungry customers, whatever I throw at them nothing happens, maybe a spark or twenty to show that I'm on the right track. When I'm flying American I felt like Harry Potter. Sometimes I see an enemy diving on a teammate 1.5 klicks out going fast (probably more than 600km/h). I fire a few quick shots hoping to scare him off. Next thing I know, something falls off his plane and it burst into a brutal flame and dies (most likely cursing hacking related content).

So at 2:37, what should the sea fury have done? Extended away in a slight climb? Steep climb? It seemed like he had a pretty significant energy advantage, but you were able to just ignore it.
No, by my estimates I was over 50km/h faster than him, and would have caught him with my downwards loop. Best option is slight dive while dolphin diving until he outruns me or I break off.

@@AdamTheEnginerd I've been playing out the J5N1 a bit recently. It's a pretty good competitive heavy fighter. I spiral climbed away 2 Yaks and due to it's fast acceleration i reversed the spiral climb. That messed with them. From 100m to 2500m both directions up. Good ammo load too. Try that plane.
I think the Yak-3U can be better if it had its optional 23mm cannons which are interchangeable for the B-20s. At least they can damage planes.
I never heard of it being able to load 23mm.

Drifters anime is a medieval themed anime where historic characters from Japan and other countries fought. Those characters are divided into two factions: Drifters and Ends. Drifters are the characters where protagonists belong to this faction. In fact, Kanno Naoshi, an ace for the IJN who piloted the N1K2 Shiden Kai which was presented in this video, was a Drifter.

If the plane's usefulness highly depends on the person controlling it, it's an indication that it's not very useful in general.
I always listen to what spit flyer said about the ju 288 when he made a vid about it, I dive,bomb bases, then I try to see how many kills I can possibly get by baiting the enemy planes to the ground. Works pretty well! But if all planes are at alt, I might try to get the GPers. Fun plane overall.
@@AdamTheEnginerd ju 288 is much more usefull than any ally bomber, the usual group of them can destroy our bases in first 3 min, then maybe kill some ppl on way back to af where they can rearm and go bavk to bombing out af.

And also considering fighters have like 25m/s climb, at least 1 bomber dies before dropping bombs. Lets say b2o did a run, af is living with 5%hp, and if they dive, they die, so all u can do is hope ur tram will loose all tickets fast

On va devoir attendre au moins un an avant qu'il le mette à 5,7. Niveau rapidité d'équilibrage et autre changement de qualité de vie, Gaijin est assez fidèle à son logo.
Dans les points négatifs ne pourrait-on pas ajouter : "Mauvaise performance à haute altitude (perte de puissance)" ? Parce que une fois j'ai du grimper à 8000m pour descendre un B-29 faisant du "space camping" et dans mes souvenir j'ai eu du mal à y arriver avec cet avion. A partir de 6000m il voulait plus grimper !
Après je sais que c'est assez rare de combattre ces altitudes dans ce jeu.
7:00 Pas vraiment, je ne connais pas les détails (s'il était à court de carburant ou autre) mais je suis quasi-sûr qu'il savait que tu étais là grâce au bombardiers. Il aurait donc pu tout simplement décider de ne pas te combattre en 1vs1 avec le désavantage qu'il avait et aurait pu s'éloigner de toi tout en grimpant et attendre deux minutes (littéralement) que son allié en Yak-3U engage le combat pour l'assister. C'est un peu le problème avec la plupart des joueurs, très prompt à faire des 1vs1 sans comprendre que les 1vs1 n'ont aucune importance si l'on sait bien jouer en équipe. Après s'il veulent un 1vs1 pour s'améliorer ou pour s'amuser alors pourquoi pas mais dans ce cas il faudrait veiller à combattre sur un pied d'égalité et non pas se mettre un handicap :V
Bon combat à la fin, dommage que ton adversaire ait un peu paniqué. Cela m'arrive aussi lorsque je sous-estime le niveau d'énergie de mon adversaire mais bon là je pense pas qu'il y avait de quoi : à 11:58 lorsqu'il voulait reset/bounce il aurait suffit de faire un Immelmann en grimpant légèrement au lieu d'un genre de tonneau barriqué ... ou alors de continuer sur sa lancé à 12:05 et faire un virage ascendant lorsqu'il était à ta vertical (plus risqué mais il avait encore pas mal d'énergie). Après c'est vrai qu'il faut tout le temps gardé un œil sur son adversaire et c'est pas évident ^^
Je n'ai pas le Yak-3U donc je me demandais entre le Yak-9UT et le Yak-3U (vu qu'ils sont au même BR) qui est le meilleur et à quoi (niveau vitesse, taux de monté et agilité) ? Enfin si tu sais. Et aussi que vaut le Yak-3U contre les Japonais (vs A7Ms, Ki-84 et J2Ms) ?

Yak3U a de bien meilleures performances que le Yak9UT en turn, climb et speed. Yak3U est ta meilleure option, aussi contre les Japonais.

But man is it scary to ground attackers. Yeah ground attackers aren’t always as common as fighters, but they scare attackers as much as any German plane scares bombers

Great vid, but may I ask, why do you never zoom in (z) to get a better aim on your targets? Is this a helpful stradegy, or just your personal playstyle? (Coming from a person who almost always zooms in for a shot)

Zooming in doesn't inherently increase your accuracy, it's not COD. It limits your field of view in a game where awareness is key. It's a bad habit in my opinion.
@@AdamTheEnginerd I can second that. Yeah it's something to get used to, but not zooming in has helped me in most 2v1 situations. It prevents you from getting tunnel visioned, and for me, it helps me figure out the lead for whatever guns I'm using quicker especially when you have an enemy breaking really hard because the field of view isn't as small.

Much more fun personally to get in there and use them gunners. and I wanna help the fighters because fighters win games (usually), I just fly bombers to chill out after playing tanks.

when his energy becomes equal to you while you are at high altitude you can dive on him at higher energy than he is

Hey. I have a problem with avoiding headons, especially when enemy fighter is more agile. Any tips?
You need to have a high enough speed to dodge, and try doing what I do. I don't make massive dodges in headons, I make small adjustments to throw their aim off before I commit to the maneuver I chose when we merge.
Ok you might be an anti-bomber enthusiast but the Ju-288 is everything but a useless plane. It can bomb 2 bases and then bait up to 3 allied pilots down and behind it and generally get atleast 1 if not more kills. I'd rather take a capable 288 pilot than a Fighter who just climbs and then gets 1 or maybe 2 bombers before getting shot by the gunners
You're comparing a miracle Ju288 situation to a slighty below average fighter, that comparison is not fair.
The average amount of kills per game of the Ju288 is well below 1, and the kills bombers get are predominantly on bad pilots, which is not as useful as the average kill a fighter gets.

Patience, try to predict what the enemy will do based on his plane and positioning. Don't be greedy.
Jp tree is too unpopular for beginners to use. And people who do stick the grind get really good with them so it boosts the W/L ratio and were stuck with these over tiered planes.
Gaijin need step in and forcefully lower all the high rank JP props back down by 0.3 to 1.0 br and then look at the stats after and manually adjust them. The Ki 61s should never exceed 4.0 while the ki 100 should not be below 4.0. All props above 5.7 should be dropped back down to at least 5.7 otherwise theyre basically useless except in niche scenarios.
Ki100 isn't that good. Japan benefits from having nearly pure fighter teams, giving them a high W/L.
@@AdamTheEnginerd Yeah I've noticed that the JP team wins a lot more when there's less bombers. Since they're basically vultures or bait, its hard to initiate a dogfight with most please in mid tiers. Low tiers you're more of a vulture looking for stragglers to pick off or pick off an enemy stuck in a 1 vs many.
Historically it was a beast for its time,in wt tho not so much..
It fights the best props so yeah.

Im an SB player (headtrack + joystick) but this video inspired me to try and go play RB with mouse.. gotta say that aiming and shooting has never been so hard xD you make it look so easy!

Man, im jealous. Every time I try doing anything other than bnz with the P-40 has lead me to believe close-in dogfights(against germans/russians) w/P-40=death sentence. The one time I averted this was when I ended up scissoring with a Japanese Corsair after a failed bnz run on a Zero over Saipan. The fight ended with us getting lower on altitude and the Corsair going into the drink trying trying to maneuver with me instead of climbing/diving away (with a heated engine, I wasn't sure I was gonna catch him. Does this count as a maneuver kill?)

Love the N1K line,it's a shame they get placed where they really aren't competitive in RB.
Even in SB,they sit higher than they should but the environment is much more forgiving for veterans in sim so you don't notice the performance margin in your K/D at the end of an EC where sneaky wins the day more than anything.
Still,with planes like La7 and La9 being more popular for SB given the low engagement altitude, the legendary N1K struggles in the face of competent enemy pilots.
Hey, Adam I just wanted to ask you why do you think bombers and attackers are useless? At 4.0 3 Me 264/ bv 238 will demolish your base. And at 6.0 ad-4 skyraiders and other attackers could also end the match pretty quickly.
You give 3 examples out of perhaps 10 attackers/bombers that are somewhat useful. The 100 others are pretty useless.
Cause in most cases all Bombers on one Team have not enough bombs to kill the airfield in one Run. A second run would consume to much time -> useless

I understand lowering prop pitch will still keep thrust and will give better engine cooling, but isn’t there a dramatic (but momentary) drop in thrust when you switch back to 100%? And you have to switch back to 100% when at slower airspeed don’t you?
If you mean that you have to reaccelerate the prop to the new higher RPM, yeah. It's not very significant though. When you go down below climb speeds, you should be at 100% yeah.

It's on my list! With its updated thermo, it really can't compete in the air for long. It'll overheat at 100% after 10 minutes of flying.

Bombers are the least useful plane you can pick to fly, I just shorten it to call them useless. I leave them for last because they aren't a threat.

That guy's stats are nuts. Some boring plays for sure. I prefer the N1k!-Ja sitting at 5.3. Good climb, decent turn especially in 1 Vs1. Though only 100 rounds in each gun so you've really got to get in close and not waste your shots.

How to access the "local host":
You need to be running War Thunder or it won't work!
Option 1: on the same computer that is running WT:
-Type localhost:8111/ in the address bar and press enter and voila.
Option 2 (which also works on the computer that runs WT):
-Type Your_IP_Address:8111/ where you replace "Your_IP_Address" by your IP Address (192.168.X.XXX) in the address bar and press enter and voila, you can look at the characteristics on another device while flying.

What I do is I have it open on my laptop next to me and record it at the same time as the gameplay, and combine them during editing.

@@AdamTheEnginerd I think it's kinda useless. It flies like a boat and the guns are fantastic (bad placement) but the wings snap easy and it gets one shotted EVERYTIME.

I put up my first match in this thing after unlocking the belts. With stock belts I hated the darn thing, but the first match after I got 4 kills. Two of them from beautiful reversals. Got that match on my channel. It was instant love.
It's the plane that taught me how to do proper reversals, because it's usually the only thing you'll be doing in it. Too gosh darn slow. The big plus was that I applied those reversal skills to the griffon spits with great success. Definitely my favourite japanese plane still though. Learnt to not like facing jets in it though.
Any chance you know the difference between the N1K2-J and the N1K2-Ja? They seem pretty identical to me. Read something about stronger wings on the Ja to load more bombs, but they have the same bomb loadout as well.
Yeah universal belts right? I used to run tracers on Japanese cannons, but on the 20mm I notice an increase in effectiveness with universal.
I don't know the difference, they seem identical to me too.
I prefer the universal over tracer, but mostly because I find it easier to aim with fewer tracer rounds. Newer rounds obscure the previous ones before they reach the target with all tracer in my experience. Dunno if there's any difference there beyond that, as I haven't really flown too much with tracer.

Even with the BR reduction it still is a hard plane to fly. It favors rudder and flaps use a lot.
Flaps don't do much in this plane.

Adam514 Dang. I got a coupon for it so I got it, performance is great but I can’t aim with the guns. I assume they spark a lot because of their low velocity unless the target is exceptionally slow.
