  • Cylinder moves up too far after being loaded and cannot close. I do not know if this is a problem on other models of this gun.

You should contact Ruger. I have this exact same gun and my cylinder will not stay locked forward unless I force it to. My cylinder will move a little but it springs back immediately as long as it is all the way open. It will only lock forward if I start closing it before it springs back, and even then I have to keep it pushed forward to make it interfere with closing. It sounds like this is a problem that may be unique to only some batches of these models, in which case Ruger will help you resolve the issue. From my experience they have excellent customer service. I would be shocked if they didn't fix it for free.

I have heard the same about their customer service being great as well as Ruger fixing the problem and some. I'll definitely contact them to get it resolved.

A lot of people shoot guns over and over and don’t clean them, or have a pro clean them. If a Ruger SP101 or GP100 has a minor issue like that it’s dirty in cylinder latch hole and underneath the star ejector because those guns are the tanks of revolvers.

I definitely don’t think that’s the issue. I shot it twice before noticing and only put 50 rounds through both times. I clean my guns after every shoot. The gun was brand new with only 100 rounds through it. It’s only a minor issue in the long run and will only happen with that particular speed loader. I’ve had the gun for 10 years now and still runs great.

Push down hard on cylinder and hold, mine does same thing. Let go and mine goes back. Your gun might be dirty as f

Your cylinder crane pivot pin is binding in the frame or your gun is just dirty. Clean debris from the pin bore or locate the burr and polish it off so the pin is free to slide in and out of the bore. The cylinder assembly is spring loaded and should snap back by itself to a position that it will clear the barrel forcing cone when you close the crane.

Either it’s the gun isn’t right which I find hard to believe. I’m on my 3rd sp101. Ive had the 2inch sold it 3 inch sold it and I just bought another one. Never had an issue with any of em. Try the cheaper hks you twist the rounds into chamber

Have you tried just using the less advance HKS (model 36) speed loader? They are probably the most common speed loader for the Ruger SP101.

I have not yet. They are very popular speed loaders. I bought this one because I figured there would be a better ease of use with the press release. Although I never saw anyone else complain about this one.

I had my speed loaders for so long they start to go bad they wont release the bullets as easy itll take a little extra force pushing down on the loader to let the rounds out that could be why your having to push it so hard to get the bullets out while also pushing your cylinder forward
