What Camera are you shooting on?
I'm basically just starting out. But got a deal on a A6300. Settings video is on point. I hope to use some of these on my camera.
I'm currently shooting with the A7IV got it 2 weeks ago and could not be happier.I still got my almost 4 years old A6300 that I will use it now as B camera.
Currently the a7c but soon to be the a7 IV!
Picked up the a6400 about 5 months ago. Working fine for now but someday we'd like to switch to full frame.
Canon M6 but changing to A7IV
After 30 years as a Nikon shooter, I just switched over to Sony last week. As a hybrid shooter, I am LOVING the A7iv. The menu system is bananas! But the quality.... OH the quality!
I also just switched from Nikon because I didn’t want to go all in on a Z8, I never really did video so I’m learning so much about video through this camera. It’s not a cinema body but it has so much to help me get started

I've always been big on buy the best out the gate and grow into it. Totally new to photography and got this camera. There is soooo much to learn. Wish I could take a course to get to know all the ins and out of this camera. This video is a great start for me thanks for the help.

i wanted the a7siii and i've been waiting all of 2021 for stock. pulled the trigger on the a7iv as soon as it was released. amazon dropped it off on xmas eve. winner winner chicken dinner. now my only decision is whether i keep the a7r iv or not.

Excellent video! Been out of it for three years and just hopping back in from A7sii, A7rii, and A7iii. Got mine two days ago and blown away at the autofocus. Can’t wait to see the 10bit color grading it can do. A7IV and iii will be main cameras now. Sii will be for special low light now.

Hey ! Awesome content. I just received my Sony A7IV. But I can only choose frame rates for movies between 25,50 FPS. I do not have the option of 24 FPS. Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks so much for the tips. I have been using a Sony A6500 for several years and never used the presets. I can see I really should have. I'm looking at the A7iv as an upgrade. Actually, I am going to rent one to try it out. What I really want is a crop camera like the A6500 with better rolling shutter and 10 bit video modes. The A6500 is super sharp at 4K but the rolling shutter is really bad and 8 bit is limiting. In HD, the rolling shutter is much better but the image is pretty soft. Many of the A7 cameras are not all that great in S35 mode especially in HD. It's a shame since a lot of older Sony Cine cameras are S35 only. It would be great to see a comparison of the S35 and FF modes of the A7iv. I think S35 is a great feature and not a step backward. lol

Finally gave me a workflow also for those 1.2.3 dials and slow and quick mode. Whew... Still miffed about no 120fps 4k....

Can you use apsc lens with a7iv in 4k60 without an additional crop on top of the 1.5x and does it still have vignetting when using crop or does the camera crop into the image to get rid of vignetting from apsc lens?
Because if so using a crop lens would be best to combat crop because that's exactly what crop lens do

Mine is supposed to arrive today and I’ve been thinking about the settings. I think yours would work perfect for me. Thanks for sharing this. I guess I better get a V90 card. It’s funny. I will spend money on drones, cameras, lenses, etc… But I really hate paying for higher spec’d memory cards. I might wait to see some real world file format comparisons between the quality before I buy anything.
As my first Sony camera, I am excited to try out s-cinetone. But am looking forward to your sLog3 video. There are a lot out there and they seem simple starting off but get a little overwhelming haha

Good video, I've just spent so long getting frustrated that I couldn't change the aperture/shutter speed only to realise I was looking at the wrong white line on next to the dial. Lol
I really appreciate this video, I went from a Canon rebel SL2 to the a7 IV and I am mind blown by how many tools are in this camera

When I purchased the camera I wasn't prepared for how many choices there are for picture profiles. I did a bit of test footage in various profiles after learning how to grade things in resolve, but ultimately decided to stick with s-cinetone (PP11 in the menu). Cinetone seems to give the best result for minimal effort, particularly when it comes to skin tone. The log profiles seem to make more sense for something more cinematic. If you are going with log why go PP8 vs PP9 though?

Quick question. You said to use PP8. Seems like a good option for video.
I take a lot of real estate pics and I normally bracket my shots. When I bracket photos, I have to take PP off. But the PP8 profile makes most of my rooms look great in the view finder. Is there a way to choose a PP while bracketing photos or do I just have to correct color in LR post?
Run & Gun with Auto White Balance? I agree with ISO but kelvins are going to change and post could be a nightmare.
im more of a photographer then filmmaker but the sony A7iv is very nice camrea and it's full frame its good very good camrea i perfer sony any day i used to be a canon user but after my canon t6i flip screen had issues with the flip sensor i stopped using canon i only use my SonyA6000 for photogprahy only when i go out i shoot landscape ,wildlife ,nature but im trying to get more into automotive photography .

Bought 2 of them and so far I am very happy with the a7iv features but no escape hatch on the battery door for my monitor dummy battery is a little odd. I don't like taking the door off or just leaving it open. I guess I can use a USB C to prolong the battery life but if that is the only drawback on this camera I can deal with it. I am wondering if any a7siii users have come up with a solution?
It will run off the USB-C indefinitely. Not sure if that has any impact on the longevity of your battery. Either way the USB-C completely eliminates the need for dummy batteries. I'm sure future accessories will start to factor this in, and just provide USB-C out.
@@SpeculatorSeth Heck ya! I ordered a USB to 12V adapter cable from Blind Spot which should work from my monitor to the usb port on the a7iv! I am not really worried about the battery, I have enough of them. The pain is swapping them out and paying attention while I am filming much life they have left!! I'm blind as a bat since I turn 50!! ha ha thanks for the info brother!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Well it won't charge the battery when running off usb. It also won't run for me off USB if the battery is dead. So maybe it uses the battery a little? But I ran off it all afternoon so...
@@SpeculatorSeth Same---I ran it off the usb-c plugged in and after 4 hours of it being on I still had of 50% battery life. Anyways looks like I will just have to leave the door open if I use a dummy battery. Still love these cameras so not the end of the world!
Thank you for the great review. However, I have recently received my new a7iv and I couldn't find 24fps or 60fps modes under video settings other than 25fps and 50fps, would be able to point out which settings I need to change that to enable 60fps and 24fps settings?
@chamika you're in PAL settings which is non-north american recording standards. To change to NTSC go to: MENU > SETUP > AREA/DATE > NTSC/PAL Selector

Great video. I have a stupid question: you have the shutter at double the frame rate, ISO in auto. How do you handle the aperture ? Can you set to auto as well? otherwise, in bright light, it is always overexposed. Thanks.
Could be good, but the way you hold the camera, I can barely read what's on your screen.
Couldn't you put it on a tripod and set it up straight with a constant position and distance from the camera?

Great video! You didn't mention anything about setting your exposure settings. Curious to know if you automatically set the camera to overexpose for slog-3 or expose at 0ev?
When adjusting the settings in picture mode to raw, then switching to movie mode and going back to picture mode it automatically changes to jpeg all the time, any idea why it won't save the settings? Thanks for the video btw🙌

Good stuff dude! I just recently upgraded like many others have and so far it's been working like a dream though some of these design and UI choices are a little odd coming off using Panasonic.
I just sold my a7iii and received the a7iv. Does that a7iv not film in 30fps? I can’t find it anywhere. All I see is 24 or 60fps. This is not good. I almost always film in 30
I don’t understand why they would not have the 30fps option. Am I missing something?
Just got mine (UK) but no lens yet, I'm using a crappy 16mm 2.8 APSC from an ol' A5000 my girlfriend had + loads of adapted vintage but all works great, I love everything about this camera except that it heats up after 20 min of 4k (yes I did the firmware update - maybe I'm missing something. Thx for sharing your settings, unfortunately my SD cards can't go for the 4k xavc s-i I'm using 2x prograde 128gb 250 mbs from my previous Fujifilm system. Thx again & Stay legendary!
Great video! Just out of curiosity, what memory card are you using in the a7IV? I’m debating if I need to buy a CF card.
what im seeing is that you dont NEED a cf card. For photography the read speeds work alot faster but depending on how fast your write speeds are for your computer is where it would come into play. Check this video out it helped me out alot if you havent yet pulled the trigger on the cf cards

Hey brother what would you recommend for someone doing both photography and video in terms of a single camera and lens(es) if budget/cost was unlimited?
So far I am thinking either Sony Alpha 1 (A1), Sony A7IV, or A7SIII .

someone wanna explain when I go back to photo mode it shows super grainy on my screen and view finder? 😅
When i set Image Quality to XAVC HS 4K like you did, i can't change these values for "p" and "fps". When I do this, the first value which is 50p is greyed out (seems to be locked). I can change this value to 25p only when i switch to XAVC S 4K. BTW I don't have values like 24p or 60p. Instead I have 25p and 50p.
At 7:25 how do you do that to get 2 white lines at the top and bottom of the screen

Hey man! I just got the a7iv, my RAW. images won't show the preview when viewing them photos on the SD card and also Lightroom won't accept them. However when I shoot in JPEG I'm able to view them on the sd and also transferable to Lightroom. Any tips?

You neeed to slow waaaay down and let us see what you are doing my man, it goes way to fast for us to do it to our camera without pausing 500 times
It's a video mate, you can (as you said) pause to see what you need. While you complain it's too fast others complain "it's too slow, speed things up here". So I will go at my pace, and if YOU can not keep up, that is on YOU.
