Yes. I think the movie should have won best picture too. Out of Africa - one of the most overrrated movies won. And Ford lost to William Hurt who won because he played a gay man who kisses a man in a film.
What I love about him is he's so genuine and humble like when he said he was just grateful to have a job, and he doesn't get carried away by his fame but he's a really good actor if you watch the drama movies he did like Regarding Henry and Witness.

If you observe his body language (constant fidgeting, eyes darting across the audience, trying to keep his hands busy either clasping a mug or straightening his jacket), and compare that to his level voice and deadpan humour, you realise that this is actually a rather nervous man who does not at all feel at home in front of a large audience, but who is nevertheless trying very hard to play cool. To me it's very endearing to see that a man who played such strong, resolute, iconic characters, is a man after all.

You can see why he got the part. He was 30 something then.
