Boondocking in Florida Isn't Easy

- I drove to Florida for a wedding that I didn't attend so I decided to head on down to Daytona Beach. Boondocking is not allowed in Daytona and Camping isn't cheap. finding dog friendly places was also a challenge so we headed for the woods.

There are about 4 pet friendly beaches around Daytona Beach, main beach is a no go for pets,but south beach, north beach,port Canaveral beach, and any beach between st.augustine and Daytona Beach. We camped on Daytona Beach itself in the 88-92 time frame.

All right so I've been in Daytona Beach for 4 weeks, just shy of a month. Boondocking here is one of the tasks to do and not get hassled or even jammed up by the police. It's one of those experiences in life that teaches you that you can't just group people together you have to realize that each person is different. For example, one person at Lowe's will tell you that overnight parking won't be a problem for just one night. And another person will tell you that it's not all right and it's not allowed. All at the same business. And you can't just ask for a manager most of the times when you go to places because the employees are taught to be Gatekeepers so that the manager doesn't have to deal with BS from 100 different people all day long everyday. Best thing to do is simply stopped in more than an hour after a business closes, and then leave that parking lot an hour before the business opens and go to another parking lot because daytime parking isn't an issue. Just the overnight stuff.

Thought I found a really awesome place since it's a movie theater that went out of business and I went all the way into the back into this little aclove where you can't see me if you go into the parking lot. I liked that because I didn't want to be out in the open where you start getting attention and then all of a sudden 10 more overnight parkers show up and ruin it for you. But the Volusia County Sheriff's Department was in a fan of it, they took it to mean that I was hiding from them which I guess that's a bonus but honestly that's not what I was thinking of, I just didn't want to attract other people trying to park overnight.
So here's what happened... I go there and I violate my rule of not going in parking for the night before midnight, because around business clothes in an hour after, that's when you end up getting hassled. I was done equalizing my batteries and it was now time to run a cable Underside My RV to handle the high current for the new charging system that will come from the alternator, and I take down a towel from my door and there is a ton of light just pouring in. I knew I was about to be kicked out. Surprisingly, I opened my door and there are more than seven Sheriff's Office cop cars all shining their lights on me. A bunch of officers in Tacticool gear, MULTIPLE K9 units. And the only thing that I believe saved me is that I had a Navy veteran plate. Otherwise I think that I was going to get arrested. But they didn't want to arrest a veteran with a couple of Aging German Shepherds probably.
The officer I was talking to said that what I was doing was called boondocking and I've never actually heard that term before this, and that I could go right across the street to the Walmart parking lot because they allow it. And I didn't say anything back about it, but they absolutely do not allow it, they tell people out of the parking lots in the middle of the night. And it's not like it's Walmart doing it, the manager at Walmart does not care whatsoever. And it's because Walmart is on least land they don't actually own the land, and so the parking lot is managed by..... the police and the people that told you are contracted by the police to do it or authorized by them or whatever. So you'll have an officer tell you you can do something in which I already have confirmation that you cannot.

Florida is a good state to winter in. I'm thinking of trying it this year we have been given about 3 months to vacate the house we are in and have no way to afford rent. I only get 1314.00 a month and that's gone on car insurance and payments. So camping it is for now.
Florida sux for boondocking or dispersed camping. I live just north of Tampa and have resorted to paying people to camp on private property.

Vickey Stark and Hanna Barron fish, I like the deep fishing. Disneyland. Worked for Dennellie Construction too in Melborne Flordia. In Melborne Flordia the have a big bridge where I sleep. The Flordia people don't like us to have our own dogs. Mine were let out of my truck and given back to me. They might have youth hostles or couch surfing. A lady friend of mine has a doubble wide in Fortlauderdale, Flordia.

You're only like 30 minutes from my house
Head south to the beaches in Melbourne area. They are very dog friendly and even have a beach specifically for dogs. I've taken mine there many times (Canova Beach)
There's always camping in the State Forests, primitive and about $9.00 a night, Love's Truck Stop north of Daytona Beach is available on US1 in Ormond Beach....I live in Daytona Beach and no, nothing free here.....🏕
I literally, meaning less than 5 minutes ago, got off the phone with that Love's truck stop and ask them if an RV pulled in for the night, would it be acceptable? They said no. No overnight parking for RVs.
