    1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 SBC 350 motor mounts replacement.
    If you are planning on replacing the clamshell motor mount on your 2nd gen F Body, don't think you'll be doing the job in 2 hours. We spent over 8 hours changing the motor mounts. You need to lower both lower control arm to have access to the nuts inside the frame. Be sure to have patience to put those nuts back in place.

    We used to call that tool the "extended claw". Mainly used to pick up nuts that fall down somewhere on the frame.

    I just replaced motor mounts and trans mount on my 79 z28 … only had to loosen the header on the passenger side to get the the long bolt out. I was able to to get the other bolts out with a long extension and a 9/16 swivel socket up through the frame. Did the whole job in about 5 hours. It was a ball buster but did not have to take the front end apart.

      Was it a bolt and nut holding the mount? The nuts was in the frame for us?

      @@MassProject Yeah the nuts for the motor mounts were up in the frame … 3 on each side … I used a long extension with a Snap On swivel 9/16 socket and a 3/8 impact to get them out . They were all tapered nuts even on the trans mount. I did one side at a time and used a pole jack and block of wood on the oil pan to lift the motor. I have a 9K lb lift in my garage.

      ​@MassProject I still have a distributor wrench that I put an extra bend in (15 years ago) to get that passenger side mount in my wrench drawer. I didn't have to take the suspension apart, but it still wasn't a fun job.

    Those motor mounts look like they were a handful. Cool to see the different bolt configurations they had for them.

      Yes they were quite a job to install, we were so glad when we figured out there was multiple bolt pattern. That save the day.

    Awesome video. I'm restoring a 1979 that's numbers matching and I had to do my motor mounts. I'll tell you this it's not much easier when all I have is the subframe in the open. Those nuts are not accessible! I'm not sure why the GM engineers did not cut the same access hole on each side to get around these issues. I'm assuming that's your son in the video and it's great to see him in there wrenching with you. It's just like my father and I did.

      Yes my son in the video, have a look at one of our latest video. We are pulling the engine out of our Camaro, going for a lot more HP. This one is Charlie’s Camaro a friend of us.

      Really thought we needed duck tape and metal wire at some point!!
      Happy we got those in, that was quite a job.
