You can use any fabric softener and any acrylic paint. Experiment with what you have. If you need to thin your paint, add a bit of water BEFORE adding the fabric softener. - Jak na to + styl

Thank you! Let me know how it turns out if you give it a try!
Looks like a winner to me...Thanks for sharing am just starting with the vinyl and this is a cheaper alternative and the professional ones...thank you again..
Yay!!! Let me know how yours turn out.

Thank you! Happy new year to you and everyone dear to you.
I totally agree!
@@samesta5695 thank you!
This is a great idea!
Thank you!
That's awesome!😊❤
Thank you!
Fab video - I only just started making things that need edge coating - giardini is really expensive in U.K. because it’s flown in from Italy so I may have to experiment!! 😊
I hope you’ll find this as a worthwhile alternative!
This is brilliant I was wondering last night about a cheaper way to do this, and you have unlimited colors. 🤩
I hope you’ll have so much fun making custom colors! Mine looks just as good today as the day I filmed this!
Great idea, but I suggest you invest in an edge paint roller.
I just came across this video on your channel (even though I've been subscribed for a while..doh!). I also was looking for a cheaper edge coat alternative. I've experimented with a mixture of hodge podge and acrylic paint with great success - at least in optics. I've tested it on edges but haven't yet tested it on an actual item to see how it wears in with real life use, if it peels, etc. But so far in my tests, it's remained very flexible.
I’ve heard good things about using the mod podge and paint - let me know if it holds up over time!
You are absolutely amazing 😍😍 I love it, it's next on my list! Quick question modpog first to fill in the gap like the base coat? Then the hack?
Awww thank you! I say go for it and let us know what you find out!
I wondered about this too! Did you try it?
Are the results waterproof? I'm concerned about using it on the handles of a handbag, and getting caught in the rain. Are the results matte or glossy? Thanks!
Hi! I’m so sorry - this has just now been published to my notifications. It’s been waterproof for mine but I’d say to sample it first. Make a mock item and carry it around and treat it poorly. See if it holds up. I think the gloss will depend on your paints.
Thank you for this great video! I haven’t done any edge coating yet. Do you have a link for the filler that you use before painting, that you mentioned? Thanks!
I do! It’s Giardini (NOT “Giardi” as I said 100 times incorrectly in the video).
I get mine from Buckle Guy and they have excellent customer service! This stuff is magical and will make your projects look professional:

I just cut the tail off a belt that was way too long for me, so I definitely wasn't going to buy the proper product for 2cm x 2mm worth of coverage! This was ideal thank you
Terrific! Let us know how it holds up!
3 x 1/8th = three eighths! 😊
How well does this wear over time?
It’s been fantastic! I used the strap from this video to create a keyfob. I use it daily and there’s no wear at all - looks like the day I painted it.
@@CharmingCheek thank you for taking the time to answer my question! This is very exciting news!!!
@@SewPerky my pleasure! I’d love to see what you make - tag me on social or join Charming Cheek Chat Room.
Gloves are definitely a good idea so you don’t develop an allergy to the fabric softener.
Oooh! I never considered that! Thanks for sharing. I appreciate you.
I have a question. Could you not just use sharpies to edge paint? They come in a million colors and they are permanent. If you get some on the vinyl you can use a qtip and alcohol to remove it. I’m asking this question from a place of ignorance, since I don’t work with vinyl and don’t know their intricacies.
Hi! You absolutely can but it goes wear off after a while and also doesn’t provide quite the same coverage. But it’s absolutely a solution that many people are happy using! Thanks for the great question!
@@CharmingCheek thanks for the response. I figured one wouldn’t use it if they were selling a product, I thinking more along the lines of personal use.
Definitely works great for that. Paint pens are another option. The paint method is likely less expensive than paint pens.
Since it's been a few months, how has it lasted?
It’s holding up great! Zero sign of wear and tear - I use it daily as my keyfob
Hello! Any updates on this? Still enjoying or using this method?
Hi! There’s absolutely zero paint peeling or flaking using this method. Highly recommend.
@@CharmingCheek awesome! What a sweet hack!!! 🤩
Why don't you start with thinning the paint? Then your end product would flow and level out better.
I think it’s something you’d want to experiment with based on your paint and brand of fabric softener. Sorry for my late reply - I’ve had several comments just now get published to my notifications.
Use a tooth pick
Great tip!
