We love Pete Rock but CL still and will always be the best on those beats

The Main Ingredient was grown man Hip-Hop when it came out. Incredible MC and strong duo with Smooth and Rock✊
That album was ahead of it's time. MECCA is a classic and was a product of it's time though T.R.O.Y is timeless but the production on The Main Ingredient was more advanced, lush and sounded like it came out during the late 90s although it was released in 1994.
I had that tape. Shit is a classic.
As classic as The Main Ingredient was/is, the most slept on part of the whole Cd to me were the interludes between each song! Pete Rock choices were the perfect fit/choices for this duo musically leading into the next song, and also fit their musical personalities.
I like mecca more
I don’t care what age you are. If you say you’re a fan of hip-hop and you don’t know who this man is. You know NOTHING.

Won't happen. Pete hates him...
@@frankwhite7109 Thats too bad. At least they still have a great legacy they left behind.
@@frankwhite7109 for what? What's the source of his beef?
They were supposed to have started working on their come back album like 2 years ago. I'm not sure what happened.
From this interview it looks like CL wants the reunion with Pete Rock, but the ball is in Rock's court.
Damn, I still bump The Main Ingredient songs on an almost daily basis. CL Smooth has one of the best and most unique flows and deliveries...

Soul Brother Number 1! Him and Pete Rock were like peanut butter and jelly.

"Walk a fine chalk line / put the needle to the grind / represent one kind / seeing eye for the blind"......That joint still goes hard! Easily one of my favorite tracks of all time.
CL ain’t changed at all. Looking after himself spiritually and physically very well. Just like that caller said, we grew up to that soundtrack and that positive way of living. We weren’t interested in being thugs, we just loved being young and enjoyed the music. Something a lot of youths don’t embrace enough. Love and blessings to this dude. Still humble. 🙏🏾
CL Smoothes family background comes from Cape Verdean an Island that speaks Portuguese. Thats why he refers to it in his Reminisce song. He's voice and story telling is phenomenal.👌👏🙏🏽
These young rapper's need to take notes from this legend 📝💯
It seems the new artist feel like because they have success on a higher level and have more money the O.G’s that haven’t had it like that can’t tell or teach them anything.

CL AND PETE ''STRAIGHTEN IT OUT''.......I love ya'll both! Please get back together!! I need to see a concert!!
CL Smooth is one of the most influential artist of the time. Where music had meaning painting lyrical stories delivering a positive message. Mt. Vernon helped pushed Queens RAP artist to our maximum potential. Big Ups to you CL and to Pete Rock and to the entire SWAY in the morning show. Peace.

I’m glad Sway mentioned the fact that Gang Starr just put out new material in 2019 and CL and Pete can’t get together. Those two falling apart is one of the greatest robberies in Hip Hop comparable to Big L’s and Biggies deaths

CL Smooth never cursed on none of his records.
Never once. Lyrical Master.
@jamel eason Yeah back when this soundtrack was released it was a time like today when cursing on a record give you more of a street edge lyrically, plus it wasn't his album and that mighty dollar is something else..But yes.
@jamel eason Yeah...CL Smooth cursing on that Menace 2 Society soundtrack was almost like when MC Hammer did the Pumps And The Bump video. We knew that wasn't his style...but I guess he gotta do what he gotta do. 💰Lol
Sway, big respect to you for still keeping the goats of hip hop relevant! Pete rock & CL smooth are my favorite duo group in old school hip hop.
Rob Base, Heavy D & Big Daddy Kane. Mt. Vernon High School 1988.

“Be like water” amazing to hear that Bruce Lee concept from the deep and spiritual being with the stage name “CL Smooth”. “Mecca...” and “The Main Ingredient” has been part o my COVID-19 survival strategy. Sway thanks for another incredible interview with another legendary artist. I’m a Pfunk and jazz dude at heart but the hip hop I enjoy has the language of both musical art forms, and CL still carries that spirit when he talks about his grandfather, beautiful! ❤️🖤💚🙏🏾👍🏾🤘🏾
The Main Ingredient is my favorite album of all time. It’s literally perfect all the way through, right down to the interludes.
As far as I'm concerned Ralph McDaniels brought Pete Rock & CL Smooth to life as a group through Video Music Box💪🏽👏🏽✊🏽💯

It certainly doesn't sound like CL has any issues with having a conversation and build.

I'm a hip hop junkie, the 90s was my youth and I LOVED Pete rock and CL smooth. Being a dark skin sister I TRULY appreciated CL smooth when he gave praises to the chocolate sistas. On that song lots of loving cl greatest bar was when he said(, woman of a darker breed, umm you got what I need). Before that line most of the rap records that I heard when they referred to a woman they always quots redbone women. So it was very refreshing to finally hear a brother show some love for the dark skin sistas and in that video for lots of loving a chocolate sista was the main chick.

I feel you on that CL "That's when I felt the richest when I had all my Uncles at full strength, the muscles, the CONFIDENCE of being your Uncle" That's exactly what Hip Hop was to me back then, growing up in that era when Hip Hop had a serious MASCULINITY to it before they stole it and made it corporate & commercial. I'm grateful to have had it at it's purest when I did..very Appreciative for all the GREATS in that time..can you just Imagine black men trying to walk around wearing skinny jeans back then..Are you serious??..lol
This energy is one I had never experienced before on Sway. Thanks for bringing the authentic - I'll have to keep running these C.L. Smooth vibes back. This is positive growth material. Bless Up
