Svetlana is special to me. She is the one who makes me fall in love with Ballet. Before I watched her dance, I never imagined that there could be such beautiful creatures in the world. She never exaggerates her emotions, and I guess that's why people say she is a boring cold dancer. But Zakharova really gives me something that no other ballerinas could give me. That's all I want to say.

@ Jingshu -- She does not make me feel the way she makes you feel, but I think your sentiments are lovely and a very sweet tribute to your favorite ballerina.
No people don’t like her because her forms are too perfect and they like a bit more free form and more flexible movements which would make it more exciting (think about break dancing). But she’s a fantastic actress who always becomes the character. A true artist.
She is the only ballerina that puts a smile on my face every time I watch her dance. She gives me joy and just like you made me love ballet.

It's frightening how good she is. It's absolutely terrifying. Just watching her, I can feel the emotions she shows through
I saw her last year in Carmen Suite, a live broadcast direct from Moscow (Bolshoi) in Pathe Cinema in The Hague. It was honesty breathtaking. There is so much soul and beauty in her dancing, way beyond her perfection. Svetlana Zakharova, a genius for sure.
She is like a doll. Absolute perfection.
she's one of the rare cases where you can clearly tell that besides all the hard work every ballerina goes through, there's also a naural talent and predisposition that make her one of a kind.
There is a pretty good chance that she has worked a lot more than any of us have in a couple months than in our entire life. It is really hard on your toes and feet if you have to put a lot of weight on them. What she does is absolutely amazing and takes a lot more work than it seems. Her beautiful dancing and strong body is hard to achieve and shows how hard she has worked to become such a poised and wonderful ballerina.
Having tried pointe work, it's hard on your *ankles* (more than toes...). It takes *a lot* of strength and flexibility in your ankles.
You summed it up perfectly. She is the best of them all, past and present. Truly a model for the future. Aren't we all lucky she existed during our lifetime?

she is gorgeous, she is just very tall and lean, and since ya'll aren't her doctors don't make comments that she needs to gain weight. for all you know, she is at the perfect bodyweight for her personal type. feel free to contradict me if you're actually svetlana's personal doctor...

Her feet are just amazing....I really look up to her as a ballet dancer.her arms , her legs, her form...just everything about her is elegance at its finest.

oh shut up! the woman is a frame the russian school looks for in the petite bone frame and elasticity of the limbs...further, the hours of her constant classes, rehearsals, and performance is tremendous not to mention the pressure to be her performance best with all love for the art...also, there are those who have a metabolic rate that is very high...the eventual lines you all are seeing is the elongation of the muscles over the years of training. NOW look at her control...that is technique over the years mastered and still perfected....enjoy the ballet!

this is such a beautiful video. Svetlana unadorned, in all her simplicity and awe. I used to think she is an ice queen sometimes, but i could clearly see in this video, how she emotes the music. Lovely. Lovely arms, and body, epaulement. Everything. Thanks for sharing.
I loved Balakov's choreography, expressive, romantic! About Zakarova, surely she is one of the greatest in dance history!
Remember, too, that some body types are naturally very slim; and life as a ballet dancer is like being on a treadmill constantly. Also, with your core, you're constantly pulling in and up, sort of like if you breath your stomach in to the fullest your ribs will show, except that for a dancer this is mainly used on the muscles rather than the skin, but it has the same effect. To be professional, you have to be healthy. Unhealthy bodies mean crushed careers, and Svetlana's career is in full bloom.

Dancers are always like whippets - the demands of a dancer at this level exceed that of an athlete in my view. What these men and women do is phenomenal, breathtaking, and a joy to watch.

R U Fucking Serious??..I suppose you also think that NBA players are too tall, NFL linemen are to big, body builders too muscular, gymnasts too small...it is only at the intersection of talent, genetics, good training, dedication and perseverance that world class performance can be achieved...since you were too busy criticizing her weight instead of appreciating the video, you didn't notice how this woman is a world class ballerina, one of the greatest of our generation.

when I was 19 I saw her dancing and inspired me to take classes, I have a similar build but of course, i am not a pro ballerina.
This one is fun to watch. She really hears the music. Or something. I know too little about ballet to know what, but she isn't mechanical. She is fun to watch.

I think you're absolutely correct. The world is a different place. What amazes me are the people who watch Svetlana and nitpick little things, and ignore the beauty and grace of the whole ballerina.

I'm sure that had Svetlana been around in Pavolva's day, she would have been a legend also. People would travel thousands of miles to see her. The same applied to Caruso. Everyone knew of these people. Also, as mentioned ballet itself is not as popular as it was in Pavlova's time. I would not dare say who was better - Pavlova or Zakharova. Pavlova was lucky. She was born at the right time.

She is absolute consumate perfection in terms of technic, and her expressivity has improved a lot (although I've never saw her live). Very skinny indeed, but I'd say it's impossible for her to be anorexic. Anorexic women are so fragile and weak that they can hardly walk for 15mins. Svetlana would be dead if she was any short of Ana/Mia. I mean she's all day, every day in rehearsals, performances, travels... I bet she eats a lot actually. Her body type is one of these girls who may eat Big Mac every day without putting on any weight. Her extremely long legs and arms also contribute to the image of a super skinny ballerina. But hey, if she wasn't healthy she wouldn't have become a mother. She's beautiful.

Ahhhh, Pavlova! I have an issue of 'Dance Magazine' from January 1976 (very yellowed) where she is the cover subject of a special issue devoted to her. "Anna Pavlova Aspects of a Legend". Fascinating pictures and read. That's why I've saved it all these years.
she is not anorexic...far from it.....she has a lean beautiful ballerina body....ballerinas works is very athletic, and precise, and requires an amazing strength to be able to achieve that level of dancing, actually she is probably eating alot, otherwise she would not be able to dance at all...

I hope she keeps dancing for years and years. In my opinion, ballerinas do their best work when they are 40+. This was the case with Plisetskaya, Ulanova - and Pavlova also. Svetlana is getting bettter with age certainly.
