Dexcom G7 Glucose Monitor Hands-On! Bluetooth CGM to iPhone & Apple Watch

Apple has been rumored to be working on a non-invasive glucose monitor. It’s still years away from viability but Dexcom is out helping type 1 and type 2 diabetics now with the launch of its G7 continuous glucose monitor (CGM). We traveled to San Diego to test it out as it launches here in the U.S.

What version bluetooth will be in Dexcom7? I am tired of having to be within 18 feet of my iphone or pdm. There are later versions of bluetooth with 800 feet range. I think next apple watch will have the 5.3 version of Bluetooth that gives 800 range.

So is it water proof when you need to take showers or do you have to wrap Saran wrap around your arm? Also, it'll probably be expensive but the convenience is nice.

It is waterproof. However the adhesive is naturally not completely impervious. It can go the full length with me playing basketball 4 - 5 times a week and daily showers. I wouldn’t go swimming for hours,tho

Does it hurt when it sticks into your arm?

Sometimes yes, but only a little and for a very short time. Maybe like a bee sting but it goes away after a few seconds. Don’t worry about that though- these are life changing.

I've used many Libre and I'm now using the G7 and I've only had pain when I insert into the muscle. If you insert into the fatty area on the upper tricep you shouldn't feel anything aside from the insitial click and it hitting your skin.
