- Today was a big day for Val and Steve Morris's Camaro! We had an NHRA inspector come by to inspect their chassis as well as some of the other shop projects!! Did they all pass inspection??

I am sure that inspector was busy that day, nice to see the process for keeping people safe on race day.
I’m sure he loves being able to complete multiple inspections at the same location on the same day. I believe they are paid a flat fee and don’t get anything extra for travel.
For those that come out with new or upgraded cars, they (Gainesville Raceway) always has a chassis-cert day at the begging of each year as well...
@@danmyers9372they definitely do charge travel. They don't charge travel at race events.
I guess I've been doing this stuff too long because chassis cert day is little more than an inconvenient formality to me. I think the only time I've ever worried about something not passing was the time we updated a certain bodyless Corvette to an actual spec so the customer could go even more faster and quicker than the car was ever built to go.

When we were building chassis ,we got caught during inspection. We used a piece that we thought was correct but was found to be thin. Standard practice became measuring thickness before it gets cut.

Chassis Inspector Eddie is the hero we need.
That was pretty cool to see the process of the certifications. And it was great for the inspector to allow you to show us a little bit more of the tools that he uses and what he inspects to keep everybody safe. Happy Fourth of July to you and I hope Eddie has a great vacation and film some of it for us.
The Green Hell is amazing. What's more amazing is many people in Europe and the UK think we have so much they want to see. Indy, COTA, Laguna, Daytona, Bonneville. Thousands of tracks for every kind of motorsport doing something every weekend of the summer months. MERICA!

I love that NHRA does such a thorough inspection. Years ago I did road racing and some of the cages that passed definitely shouldn't have. Hope that's improved over the years

Kevin y'all do great work with your chassis builds. If it's any consolation, if I had the money to spare, I'd let you build a car for me. That's it for Eddie. I don't like him anymore after his F1 trip. That is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Never pass that stuff up. It's alright Eddie, I'll forgive you but it still hurts to miss that trip.
Our first funny car was parked in the pits ready to make a test pass when we found out we needed to recert the chassis because we were new owners! I've learned since then that it's easier to do that before they are painted and assembled!

I just reupped my certs on similar equipment for non destructive testing. Since I'm testing pipes that handle liquid, it's a little more in-depth but same concept.
On this July 4 ,( July 1 in Canada ) be sure to do your part in repelling the Sky People by lighting off spectacular devices that launch high into the sky leaving a luminescent multi colored trail. Some of these devices have a concussion charge to further disorient / repel the Sky People.

Good to hear you passed your inspection. Am not surprised, with the kind of results you constantly achieve. Looks like you get on well with the inspector too. The racing business is more or less a family affair. It certainly was when I was part of a road racing pit crew, Mini 1000 Challenge series here in Blighty. Am also not sure if I have missed the Viper racing, havent seen any so far this season. All the best to you and yours kevin, hopefully it will be a painless birth PMSL :)

Started looking for tickets for Monaco back in February/march. All that was really left was almost $5000, without airfare there or lodging. Still a race on my bucket list to make, maybe later in life i can get it to line up

Kev, you know what would have been cool. Measure a straight piece of tubing in a specific area, then bend in the same place and measure the inside and outside radius.
Spec it out and make it happen Kevin will be better than you ever expected UT inspection and more,!!’

Nice one Eddie! I’m based near Liverpool in England and have done the same drive down to the Nurburgring and Spa for some laps in my Ford Focus RS2, it’s a great journey, and the tracks are awesome! Don’t forget to smash it on the autobahn too!!! 😊🏎️🏁

So the last few years, you have been able to kinda line up a motorsports trip through Europe. The dates for Le Mans, Isle of Man, N24 (Nurburgring 24hr race) and Spa 24 all usually run real close weekends, so much so that you can pretty much go to a different event for 4 consecutive weekends. This year it started with Isle of Man, then N24, then Le Mans test day, then Le Mans race and finally Spa 24. That spanned from 27th March to 23rd June.
i life near Spa .. You stay here on holiday and go to Spa :D

Ultrasonic Thickness Testing, been doing that a long time. You can also use an instrument based on that to check weld quality. Tube and or pipe will vairy in thickness but there is a minimum wall thickness. It sucks when your tube comes in new at min. wall because when you start working with it you may end up with a peace that's too thin by accident.

I'm sure the inspector was glad to work with a hoist in a shop with A/C and then be able to do a couple of cars without travelling.
My man Kevin always has even numbered video lengths 😂. Never 20:01 minutes for example. Details matter!
