  • Here's my honest review of the 2023 Porsche Taycan, after spending a week with one in December 2023. How is the car to drive? Does it work as a viable daily driver given the avaialbe charging networks? What is the Porsche Charging Service?

I've been a Taycan owner for 16 months, first with a 4S Cross Turismo and recently changing to a GTS Sport Turismo. My only comments are: If you work with an EV as it should be used, it works. I travel around Europe and have no range issues and it all just............works. The second point is they are a great car, my GTS is probably up there as the best all-round car I've ever owned (and I've owned some nice cars). They are epic.

I’ll never be convinced to buy an EV. Too many issues and my property cannot support home charging.
I shouldn’t comment because I have never driven one, but the depreciation has been very well documented. How do you cope with that or is the depreciation something you haven’t experienced?

@@robertbroadbent3038 depreciation most certainly a thing… I bought mine occasion so it worked in my advantage. I don’t understand what you mean with “issues” though. It’s cheaper in use and requires less maintenance. Only thing: faster degrading tires from all the pulls😮‍💨

@@BenevolentDictator13 I was in the right place at the right time. I had a 4S on contract hire and 14 months into a 36 month contract Porsche offered to change my car for any Taycan of my choice from a list of 700 brand new available just before Christmas 2023. I decided a GTS was the one and essentially to get me into that car they discounted the deal by £40,000 and I started a new 36 month lease (at no additional cost to me). Happy days 🥳

Bought my 4S used last summer. 233mi summer/ 184mi winter and have acheived those. Charging at home from my Solar or super cheap off-peak Octopus Agile, 10-7p/kWh. Even in winter, full charge for under £15. Public charging for EV ownership is just not viable for anything but road trips. Love the car and benefits easily outweigh the minor invonveniences of stopping more often on an occasional long run. Great review, balanced overview and useful experiences.

    Nice review joel.
I agree about the ride height staying up at up to 32mph.
With a base price of £111000
It seems mean to charge extra for electric folding mirrors, more again for auto dimming mirros and rear view mirror(£550 for both options) and extra cost for ambient lighting(£321)😮 never mind extra for a 5 seater variant .

Fantastic review and really fresh to have somebody present a truly indifferent and unbiased review that also reflects my experience. As you point out, have a charger fitted at home and charge overnight at 7.5p/kWh for a 220+mile range and the price of public charging when you need to use it becomes largely irrelevant. If you have a drive with the ability to charge and do less than 200 miles a day most of the time, as the majority of the population do, there’s not much not to like. The automatic hate based on zero experience is so heavily prevalent in so many. Keep up the good work.

Great to see such a well thought out and balanced review. Makes a change from some of the click grabbing reviews by others.
I decided last year that our climate is changing and that as a family we should try an EV as burning lots of fossil fuel is unfair to future inhabitants of our planet.
I really wanted a Taycan but decided to try a toe in the water with a used Tesla M3 first. My idea was that it would serve as our second car. However, after a few drives I decided to sell my 530 diesel BMW estate and run the Tesla as my daily. Whilst the range and charging can cause minor inconvenience its been great overall for our needs (we rarely drive more than 200 miles in a day). After doing 6000 miles in six months last week i took the plunge and purchased an ex demo Taycan 4s which was very well priced (around £20k less than the prices i saw just 6 months ago). As you say its fantastic to drive and every journey feels special. We now have two EVs (plus a 981 Boxster 3.4S for occasional use!) We charge at home 95% of the time and the cost is minimal using a smart EV tarriff. To each there own but i really dont understand some of the recent hate directed at EVs - perhaps the oil exporters are sponsoring misinformation?

You would be certifiably insane or stupid to sell a brand new Porsche to WBAC at any time especially now.....the used car market is falling and is saturated with early Taycans coming off first lease and PCP deals....
Cars across the board can be bought at discount, you can even get a discount on brand new stock 911's!
In any event , depreciation is only a thing if you sell something and it isnt limited to electric vehicles.

The model S which is one of the oldest EV’s you can buy is 10 years old this year and the first 8 cars found on Autotrader at that age ALL had battery replacements. How many cars at 10 years old need a new engine? Due to the lack of investment in the charging network EV's don't work for most people on longer trips. Does Porsche do a lot of OTA updates? Do they implement new features via software like Tesla? Coming from Audi where new features could be implemented with software they've made customers update their car instead so I'm a bit over paying premium $ to be treated like a stooge

I have a 23 GTS. Previous car was 20 Model S LR and before that an S 75. Owned EVs since 2012. The P-car is masterfully engineered and superior to the Tesla in most regards although the app reeks of Volkswagen and isn’t. But it is also too low for a four-door saloon, is too wide, too long, too heavy, has far too many slow-witted touch screens, isn’t rousing to own or drive, and compared to the Model S the range is terrible: a full charge (5C, UK winter) shows 220-230 miles. Heaven knows how bad the Turbo and Turbo S are when a regular 80% fill of the Tesla would show more than 290 miles. My experience with the Taycan has made me want to leave EVs far, far behind and buy a 911, and my advice to prospective owners would be to take a very long test drive with someone sensible and look past the looks, throttle response and acceleration. Because like most battery cars it has all the thrill and passion of a Liebherr refrigerator. Makes the same sort of noises too.

Problem is those of us with family and a dog won’t fit in a 911!

    • @oploupe
      @oploupe Před 3 měsíci

@@paulyallop7501 while that's true, there's still the matter of range: fully loaded means my GTS won't go more than 90-100 miles (a figure additionally dependant on terrain, outside temperature and avg speed) without needing a 100% recharge to simply to loop back home. If you start out at less than 100% this problem is even worse. And this is before we get into matters of the Taycan's depreciation and insurance - running costs that early adopters rarely discussed, because they were trivial, but which are now huge. What you, your family and four-legged friend really want is a Macan. This is an exceptional car, in that it drives like a super saloon and yet has all the benefits of a midsize SUV. And you can drive to the south coast of the UK or France without any sort of advance planning and beta blockers.
