The fact Shaun said even if Klopp wins the quadruple this season it changes nothing just shows how bitter he is about Klopp and Liverpool. Regardless of what Klopp wins Shaun will never rate him simply because he’s the Liverpool manager. Klopp would do equally well with that City side maybe even deliver the champions league 😉 how would Pep do at Liverpool? For once not having the richest club in the league, having to sell to buy to improve his squad, not having the luxury to bin players after one season if they didn’t live up to expectations. Would pep persist and work with someone like Henderson who was considered not good enough before Klopp arrived, would Pep sign Andy Robertson from relegated Hull and then turn him into one of the best left backs in the world, would Pep sign Matip on a free. I rate Pep highly but Klopp just edges it for me.

Fr I think pep is tactically better than Klopp hands down. Man is a genius. But if you're talking about who I feel could manage a club, strengthen the belief of fans to a club even without winning, turn games around when things look dry, or even compete with a club that has reach that your club can't compete with in terms of money, wage offering and keep the players happy to stay is Klopp. Klopp tenure was half spent on building and reshaping a side completely while changing the whole outlook on a club while pep just had to take off the bandaids and replace the expired players with quality again while it was still at the top. Still had great key players like aguero, David Silva, Kdb, fernandinho, etc. People say its harder to keep a club at the top when you come in compared to building sides but that's actually bullshit. Everyone knows clearly which is the most difficult but choose to ignore it to add praises to pep at the expense of Klopp. I can admit where Klopp is inferior to pep at but people such as Shaun won't admit areas that pep is weaker at than Klopp. Shaun prays to a statue of pep every night at his nightstand before he goes to sleep, that's how much of nonsensical ignorant guy he is. He has good football knowledge but only cares about how many trophies you have at the end of the day as the only metric of ability.

The margins between Pep and Klopp are quite thin. I think you could make an argument for both, certainly, but there is a distinct difference in resources that the two managers have available and it shows in the club philosophies. Liverpool are certainly not impoverished, but City have essentially been a state-funded club for years. You cannot ignore that.
They both have different strengths, but they have firmly cemented themselves as the two best managers in world football right now, a pair of men who have ushered in a golden age in the Prem. I think the margins between the two are as thin as anything, and it is hard to answer the question of whether the clubs would have the same results if the managers' positions were switched.
I think Shaun is being flippant when he refers to the 2020-21 Liverpool season. Van Dijk and Matip were (and still are) the definitive CB partnership of the title-winning Liverpool, and they are absolutely crucial to the squad not only in their defensive stability, but their offensive output. VVD, Matip, and Gomez were all ranked in the top six CBs in terms of passes that ended in the opposition half and final third. VVD and Gomez were both out for the season inside of the first seven or so matchweeks, and Matip didn't play past matchweek 20. Their absence completely destructured the team - their 20(!!!!) CB partnerships last season featured academy kids and midfielders (which deprived Liverpool of their protective shield in the final third, which they very much depend on). Beyond the defense, Keita, Jota, Thiago, Henderson, Trent, and Firmino all spent anywhere from one to three months out. Only Robertson and Wijnaldum escaped injuries that season. It was not the sort of year anyone could plan for.
And for the record, City dropped 17 points in 2019-20 when they lost Aymeric Laporte.

Got to agree with sharky completely about the klopp vs pep debate. The side Klopp took over compared to the side pep took over was completely different. Liverpool’s back line was non existent, midfield was meh and they had to revamp their attack. Pep had aguero in attack, a beefy midfield of KDB, David silva and Fernandinho and defence was meh depending on how you view kompany and co

    • @ahmedaltamimi3940
      @ahmedaltamimi3940 Před 2 lety +25

Tactically Pep is better than Klopp, you could argue for the money spent Klopp has done better but what you need to notice is that they both develop players when they buy them, not carelessly spending. And the midfield you’re talking about, yes it was good back then, but when pep was in charge he made it way better, look at the difference between KDB in 2015-2016-2017 you’ll immediately notice pep’s impact not just on KDB but the entire squad, pep created the synergy between these players you’re mentioning in the midfield. People say city had a good squad when pep took charge and Klopp had a bad squad by the argument that in 15/16 City were 4th and Liverpool 8th, this is so misleading due to the fact that the gap was 6 points only, people would say City were top 4 and Liverpool were a mid-table club but the 6 points difference was ignored, so the difference in quality between the squads wasn’t as major as you’d have probably thought. Besides, you can’t accurately measure the quality of squads because either clubs could’ve had a good squad but a below-average manager making the squad in general look bad in the table. As you said the back line was non existent, what if it wasn’t the players, rather the manager’s tactics, play-style, or in general the fact that the manager couldn’t utilize them properly. I honestly think Pep is the greatest manager of all time, everything he has done…

4 full backs over the age of 30. Joe hart coming off the worst euro performance from a keeper and couldn’t play ball. Fernandinho came off a poor 15/16 season. Fernando was a scam signing. Jesus Navas Nasri Bony Iheanacho was the rest of the team. Liverpools team did the double over city the season before aggregate of 7-1. City side like Barcelona before Xavi lacked intensity, was old, and had cracks covered by top players. Aguero and Kompany injury prone as well. Yes Pep had two and arguably 3 world class players, no doubt Pool’s circumstance was worse but it’s a common misconception as well as his Barca job in 08 that he took over top sides

How anyone can put Pep ahead of Klopp is actually insane. If you compare what Klopp started off with and the resources he has had compared to Pep, its actually crazy as to how Klopp has managed to make a team that is literally just as good.
Firstly if you compare the squad's they inherited.
Guardiola's first XI that he had (excluding signings he made) consisted of:-
Joe Hart, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Kompany, Kolarov/Clichy, Fernandinho, Toure, De Bruyne, David Silva, Sterling, Aguero
    Comparing that to Klopp's:-
Mignolet, Clyne, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas, Can, Milner, Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino
If we were to compare the XI's side by side I would say only Coutinho would be able to get into the Man City one and barely.
Secondly, this narrative that Klopp has spend just as much as Pep is ludicrous, whether you talk about net spend or not they are not even close. In Pep's tenure at Man City he has spent in total £933.21 million and has sold £370.21 million in players. That's a total net spend of £563million.
Whilst Liverpool in Klopp's tenure have spent a total of £479.56 million and have sold £360.82 million in players. That's a total net spend of £115.74 million.
That is a difference of £447.26 million in terms of net spend, therefore Guardiola has not only spent more money that Klopp but he has also not had to sell as much as Klopp has had to.
In terms of head to heads, Klopp and Guardiola have split five wins apiece against each other and have had five draws as well, so in terms of them facing each other they have had an even record.
Finally in terms of achievements, Pep has won three Premier League titles and zero Champions Leagues (which was the main reason he was brought in) to a Man City side which has already won two Premier League title's in recent times. Compared with Klopp who has won Liverpool (a team that consistently finished between 6th-8th for 7 years bar the 2013/14 season) their first league title in 30 years, he also managed to bring them the Champions League a trophy that Pep has still not managed to bring for Man City despite being favourites practically every year. So if you are comparing achievements Klopp has exceeded expectations whilst Pep has not managed to achieve Man City's primary goal in signing him.
In conclusion, Klopp started off with a worse team, has spent less money whilst having to sell more, has had an equal record in head to head battles and managed to win not only the Premier League title but the Champions League. Therefore against all the odds stacked against him Klopp has been the better manager in terms of their tenure's in the Premier League without a shadow of a doubt.

Since the 2015/2016 season, Liverpool have spent a combined total of 666m, man city? 1163m.
Ok say we only count players bought under Klopp, then it goes to 552m to liverpool and 969m to man city
Lets say we start counting from 2018/2019, its still 329m to liverpool and 490m to man city.
So idk where shawn gets his ‘70m’. I can see why he considers guardiola as the best coach in the world, but to downplay Klopp’s success at liverpool is crazy

I swear Shaun hates Liverpool. How is Shaun talking about Klopps spending as if it has been anywhere near how much Pep has spent during his time at City? Klopp's net spend at Liverpool is around 140 million pounds, while Guardiola's net spend in that same period is about 550 million. And City was already a developed top team while Liverpool was down at 7th with Borini, Lambert and Balotelli as their attacking three! Can't compare. Liverpool has the 9th highest net spend in the prem over the last 5 years. Shaun cannot take away the fact that Klopp has done more with less.
And then he says bringing in Laporte (57 million) and Cancelo (60 million) is the same as how Klopp has brought in relatively unknown players and made them into world calss players.
And to top it off he thinks Liverpool doesn't have squad depth and that the only injury they had last year was Van Dijk. Liverpool lost their whole spine to injuries last year, Van Dijk, Matip and Gomez all suffered season long injuries. Henderson and Fabinho then had to fill in at CB and then they suffered long term injuries as well! So not only was the defense weakened but also the midfield infront of their defense was weakened by injuries. On top of that there were a number of smaller short term injuries on other players as well. Their weakened defense also gave TAA and Robertson much less license to go forward and feed the front three with passes and overlapping runs. So Liverpools whole style of play suffered and made Liverpool's attack look weaker.

What he said about Ancelotti wasn't right or wrong tbh. Ancelotti makes top10 but barely probably gets like #10 or #9. He's more like Zidane is, a man manager player to player rather than out and out tactics. When he was screaming he doesn't rotate or substitute correctly I fully agree and that also pisses me off. But he keeps a good athmosphere and keeps everyone motivated that's also skill and managerial experience. But he ain't top5 simple as
