    Fun Fact: This is another station where it gets really crowded during sporting events, particularly Mets home games and the US Open. And there’s a 7 Super Express Train that runs from there to 34th Street-Hudson Yards.

    The lengthy Manhattan bound platform is actually a surviving remnant of the original 1927 station., which was far closer to Willets Point Blvd. When they did the rebuild for 39, they essentially built a new station with the exception of that extra long stretch of platform, which they retained for some reason? (Maybe as easier layup space for 2nd Avenue Elevated trains which did terminate there until 1942 (as their wooden cars wouldn’t have allowed running into the Main Street tunnel).
    Would be cool if they could rebuild the entrance for that platform when there is a real neighborhood over there down the road.
    Great Video as always!

    About the only people who would actually have used the WPB station in the 1920's would have been the workers at the Ash Dump, and after the first World's Fair, the workers at the chop shops in the Iron Triangle.

    • @mzxeternal
      @mzxeternal Před 15 dny

      It still had a purpose at least until 1942. The 2nd Avenue El Queens trains terminated there, so there was likely a decent amount of transfer traffic to Flushing IRT trains there.

    I genuinely wonder if the 7 even has the capacity to handle all those people.
    I feel like most of the people going to and from the new development will use the Port Washington over the 7, due to the steer crowding the former has.

    • @mmrw

    Hey Mystic! I have a idea for your channel. You should cover abandoned subway stations and explain the history behind each station and why they are abandoned now in the first place. You can also the same with certain lines and even tracks. Hope you’ll consider this idea.

  • @arturocuizon69
    @arturocuizon69 Před 13 dny

    I would like for more to be built around this station cause for years there has never been anything there except the sports stadiums like Citi Field and the Tennis Center. And if your going to a Met game and you get there too early there are no places to wait inside like stores or restaurants so you'll be waiting outside for a very long time in the heat if it's hot outside that's why the area should get developed. You could take the 7 over to Flushing Main Street to get to places you could wait inside while waiting for the time they start letting people into the stadium but then you'd be paying the fare to ride the subway over 1 stop and you shouldn't have to do that since the stadium is already right there you should be able to wait inside places around the stadium without having to use up another fare on your metro card like you could around Yankee Stadium since there's a lot of stores around there.

  • @mygins5820
    @mygins5820 Před 14 dny

    I am under the strong opinion that the area is extremely overserved by Long Island Rail Road (like why do Port Washington Express trains stop there at 6:40 in the morning where it's only commuters heading into the city and why do they stop there in the off-season where there's zero games being played and with not all cars stopping there, I really don't see the point considering basically every train stops in Woodside)

    This station should serve the , (7), & at all times. There should also be neighboring stations with similar names such as Willets Point-World's Fair Marina on the new IND Northern Boulevard Line serving the (M), , (R), & . There should also be a Mets Stadium-Willets Point station on the (14), , (16), , (17), & . The (15), , (16), should go to Staten Island as the only IRT routes to run there.
    To allow BMT trains, retractable platform gap fillers will be needed at these stations:
