- This is a view never seen before of the live performance of an Ohio State University Marching Band sousaphone player dotting the i in Script Ohio. 360 degree video simulates being in the shoes of the person and looking around to the left, right, up and down. CLICK ANY POINT ON THE IMAGE TO DRAG IT IN THE DESIRED DIRECTION. AT 7:30 IN IS WHERE HE BEGINS TO DOT THE "i"
I-DOTTER / Tim Hogue, from Canton, Ohio, graduated from Ohio State in May 2017 with a degree in security and intelligence from the Department of International Studies and with minors in Russian and aviation studies. He returns to the Ohio State Marching Band this year for his fourth season. Hogue says he is excited to dot the “i” to complete a dream he’s had since he was a student at Canton McKinley High School.
Script Ohio was first performed by the band on Oct. 10, 1936, and has since become the quintessential formation of The Ohio State University Marching Band. Each time the band performs Script Ohio, a different fourth- or fifth-year sousaphone player is chosen to stand as the dot in the “i” of “Ohio.”

Everyone forgot to mention we're watching an excellent sousaphone player. Not the easiest instrument to play and carry at this cadence. Three cheers to Tim. You did good!
Addison 128 you gotta get use to it I can do it for hours now
@@AlexWatsonMusic 9
Yeah I’m a euphonium and they made me switch over to a Sousa
Exactly
Thanks TIM!
Great job 👍
The fact that the other Sousaphones kept cheering for him when they went to their respective positions and as they marched, it's just so fascinating!
D
My Tuba Teacher (Don Stanley) Dotted the "I" sometime in the 50s I think. Had a picture signifying the event hanging in his office the entire four years I was at Mansfield University. I never realized the significance of his picture until well after I graduated and started paying closer attention to college football. He would have loved watching this. RIP Don, you were an incredible man. Thanks for posting!
Brad Gulley it’s a big deal.

This may just be one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

@@Ace_v120 We're talking about a "marching" band. Your link is to an entirely different entertainment. I liked it though so I subscribed.
Dotting the "i" is the greatest moment of tuba glory there is!! and the Ohio fans really LOVE their band--so very nice to see!! I'm an old tuba player myself, and if I ever got the chance, I would drive from Dallas, TX all the way to Ohio just to see this band. Only one thing would I change: I would change TBDBITL to The Best BLESSED Band In The Land, because everyone in the band and everyone who sees and hears this marvelous band is truly blessed. Tubas ... forever!!
Frederic Martin I have played tuba for a little over a year. I started as a freshman in high school, I wish I could dot the “I”!
sousaphone, not tuba, there is marching tubas, then sousaphones, torture sometimes, cause neither of them are light lol.
@@tru3fr0stb1te4 Sousaphone is a type of tuba. And the marching tuba your talking about is a contra. Almost every band director I've met had or watched has called the sousaphone a tuba but understand its origin name so in the lime light a sousaphone is basically a marching tuba. But yeah I feel the Tuba both concert and marching don't get as much love as Ohio Script'si"i."
You mean the OHIO STATE fans live their band. The OHIO fans love their marching 110 Bobcats.
Lmao for like 10 minutes I was trying to figure out why the camera was facing down 😭😂
Same then I was like KEWL THIS'S KEWL
I just figured out I can move the screen
I was lucky enough to travel to Columbus for this game and I think the script O and the dotting of the "i" are some of the coolest things in college football and every college football fan should see it in person once in their lifetime. I am so impressed with the Ohio State band and the fans I encountered. A really good group all the way around! This video is amazing!
Sooner Keith Thanks, Keith. Gotta say OU has some terrific fans too. Too bad for us we laid an epic egg that night, but you'll have that sometimes.
at 7:23, the trumpet player and the sousaphone player high five before they split off, and that just cracked me up
I love the pride in my state! Best damn band in the land!
Jay Jackson for real
Jay Jackson Ohio SUCKS AS A STATE TOO
Things like this, is what makes America so beautiful. Thank you loved it.
The BEST video to truly understand the feeling of 105,000+ Ohio State Fans cheering you on as you do one of the greatest things in college marching band pageantry and tradition.
This is amazing! It is really a marathon to dot the i!!!! I loved seeing the interaction between line members (the high fives).
I 100% agree. I always thought they were completely serious, its good to see them have fun out there
gotta love the enthusiasm and the 25 or so high fives while Scripting Ohio!
All the high-fives coming from all directions while marching is the best part of these movies.
I'm in high school marching band and I play a euphonium. This makes me want to play sousaphone.
I play Susa. It ain't easy. I started last year which my sophomore year. Next year i get to play hey baby which the way my school does it is the oldest Susa player plays the tuba part and the rest of the band does a kicklie type thing and sings it.
Growing up in Ohio, any kid that plays sousaphone dreams of going to OSU and getting the honor of dotting the I... How many other schools out there have a stadium with 100,000+ in the stands every home game screaming and cheering as loud for a single band member as they do when the team scores? I never pursued music beyond high school, but I've been to many games over the years. Script Ohio and the dotting of the I still sends a chill down my spine each time. I just got to share that experience with my dad for the first time last weekend, treating to his first ever game in the Shoe for his 70th birthday.
I have tears in my eyes. Love this.
I never get tired of watching this band!!❤️
As a former T-Row member and TBDBITL Alum, I've done plenty of Ramps and Scripts but never with this view. Thanks heaps for taking us along for the ride, Tim. The view from behind a flugel looks a bit different but it's always a treat nonetheless.
By the way, I hope they've gotten you a new felt or cork washer for under the valve cap on the top of your 3rd valve to stop all the clatter. It might help make your valve holes line up better, too! Dave Peto - T Row - '67-'70
NEVER gets old!
OMG I can't love this enough. So great to see all the support he's getting from his fellow sousaphone and band members. I got chills when the drum major came down to lead him! This is probably my favorite tradition in college sports and I'm not even an OSU fan!
The dotting of the I IS the best tradition in college sports! --- OSU Alumni Family Member 👍
This "i" dotter has so much to be proud of on that night. Not only is he an awesome sousaphone player, he got the Go-Pro assignment, got to dot the "i," seems to be very popular amongst his fellow bandmates, and got led to the top of the "i" by John LaVange! I gotta say: Hot damn!!!! Way to go!!!
Agree with everything, and think LaVange was the best drum major.
Amazing maybe one day I will dot the i as well
Now I finally know a bit of what it's like to dot the "i"!
wow thank you for giving us the chance to watch what i imagine is one of the greatest moments in this young man's life .After 5 years still a great video , you guys are Amazing
Im in highschool and i love TBDBITL!!!!! I play flute. Im learning to spin the baton and hope to be a drum major in college. I think this is such an awesome video. It gives you an insiders view of what its like to dot t he i.
Outstanding perspective.
Whoooooo! Love my state and my state team lol been to football games there many times and it's amazing. No matter how cool the new stadiums are they don't have the memories I've made at this place. That's what makes it special for me.
I helped usher as a Boy Scout at OSU games with Rex Kern and Stilwagon era. I'm still misty eyed at remembering this while in the military, in places only My incredible Brothers and Sisters served. I'm 67 now and a member of the AOSFYC from 69 and this still warm's my heart. Wish all people could have that same feeling. America...The Beautiful.
I've stumbled across this.....bloody hell ...amazing
The respect the other players are is insane they cheer him on and the audience is insane too
watched his face the whole time awwww!! 😌 such a special moment for him! 💂♂️🎺👏😁
Thanks for putting this up for those of us who've dreamed about dotting the i!
I don't know which part was cooler, all the other sousaphone players high-fiveing him as they marched by, or the "WHOO" he let out at the end of Script Ohio. Very entertaining video!
I am a born and bred Buckeye. Watching this band gives me chills and fills me with pride EVERY time! GO BUCKS!!!!!
The was the coolest thing ever! 👏🏻 😁
This video should go viral. Sadly, it probably won't. Amazing footage!
The greatest job ever🌟✨🤩
This is just what I wanted to see over the years as an osu graduate‼️
My biggest love and respect to osu marching band❤️💙💚🧡🍀
I have zero connection with Ohio State; this is hands down the superior college band. Funny, I had new friends over okay to our pool; one was a HS band director. I mentioned Ohio State being incredible. He mentioned Ohio State before I could get the words out.
This has to be like the greatest thing I've seen in forever. Thank you so much for recording it and posting it. As a fellow former high school marching band Sousaphone player, I also dreamed of dotting the "I" especially because my high school's fight song was the "Buckeye Battle Cry." And since our mascot was the Rams we did script Rams every year at the last home game. Sadly no "I" to dot in Rams.
It's also very hard to get over how big the horseshoe actually is. Seeing it from the field is amazing.
Someone fill me in. What did he say to him as he gave him a high five? Tradition? Also I’m a former LSU football player and this gives me chills. Never forget that Championship game in New Orleans ;-)
Thanks, Tim, and the rest of The Ohio State University Buckeye Marching Band for this POV experience! O-H
I loved playing sousaphone! Thanks for the excellent performance! It brings back memories.
I wish I had someone to be excited for me, the same way his sousaphone homies are excited about him dotting the "i" 😭 we love a supportive and happy souza section!
Love the high step. That's how we marched at UConn in the late 70s.
I played drums in high school and my dream was to attend Ohio State and play in TBDBITL I did neither so seeing this view is amazing. Dotting the "i" is such an honor congrats to this kid.
It's the behind-the-back hand slap the trumpet gives just before he breaks out of formation @7:22 and the bari who fist pumps him as he passes @7:42 that's the best. I'll watch for that every time from now on because you KNOW it happens every time. #bandkidsarethebest
Love this video I miss marching now. Love to see more
The football game is just opening for the true stars.
Michigan truist here, love your band! Our band is Great, All bands are Great! Watch the Florida AM Band wozza.
Wonderful video! I really got to share his experience. Thank you!
Sorry for how Tardy to the Party I am here. I just wanted to say I'm not into sports. Idk how to play a single musical instrument. I've never marched anywhere in my entire existence.
But this is one of the absolute coolest videos I've ever seen on CZcams.
What an absolute boss.
27 high fives and two fist bumps, if I counted right. :) Awesome footage!
Congratulations! Such an honor, and performed superbly.
To say that the music didn't leave a lump in my throat would be a lie. I watched until I was needed for errands, but the 360-degree view was simply the "shizzle." Speed of marching and weight of your instrument are a testament of your overall physical being. You get to remember your day twice...once for "dotting," and once for being the first to record the moment in the manner it was. Simply put...TBDBITL!!! Go Bucks!
This is the coolest video I have seen in a while
the best thing i have seen on youtube i always wonderd how that would be glad to somewhat experience that. so cool
I was in a marching band in the 60s. We couldn't have done that!
AWESOME!!!!
Amazing...!
The greatest honor any human can have if you’re from Ohio!....... #GoBucks
What an amazing surprise and great memory when THE Ohio State Band travelled to Evanston, Illinois to play Northwestern University. My dad and I were enjoying our season tickets on the fifty ward line (he was a professor and head of the Urban Research Lab. Unfortunately, it was also the day that I saw Woody Hays hit a Northwestern player on the sideline after a successful play. It was his second occurrence and that ended his career when he refused to apologize. What an unfortunate memory to follow such a brilliant experience.
I’m from da bayou of LSU and that was AWESOME!
I’m a sousa and my biggest goal is to dot the i at some point in my life
I fucking love The Ohio State University so god damn much
Now go jump in the fountain!
The high five at 7:20 made me smile
GET SOME, the marching band version of "get some"
Wow so amazingly cool to feel like I was there with you, once I worked out how to pan around 😂👍🏻thanks for the ride!❤
Awesome perspective. How exciting to witness ❤️
i love how the trumpet gives a behind the back high five at 7:20
Totally awesome!
Got the chills
This is dope...
So, so cool!
Cool dude!
that’s gotta be an amazing experience
i played a bass in my high school band and that's how it looks.
That was really cool....was he the DOT??😎
Greg Kendrick yes
Smh
Amazing....
Amazing!!!!! #THE
Chills.
Thanks for the update and for ty for your time for me to go to sport or porsha into the matter and do the needful at the moment and I will be in town and we can
Gwad do I miss those days. To Terry, Bubba, Paul, Jon* and all the rest. OH
Ah, if only the microphone quality were a bit better. Mic makes him sound much worse than he actually is.
@Silas Schiera Plus the mics of "older" action/360 cameras kinda suck. But, I can tell he sounded fantastic!
3D cameras kinda suck on about everything rn but they getting better
Just starting marching tuba in my colleges marching band, and I could never play some of these tunes, not to mention some of this drill is pretty difficult too.
If only the football team played as well as the band.
"Hey, what are all those football players doing on the marching field!" 😂😂😂
I hate Ohio State, but my God they truly are the best damn band in the land
My band tries and sweats hard for us to get good.
I would not recommend watching in VR. but other than that, this is great!
Soo COOL!!!
Can I say I dotted the i now? 😁 Jk
Great video guys thanks 👍
BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND!!!
Thanks, Timmy. I like you.
XWONDERFUL THE MUSIC FROM GREAT USA ####!!!! A poor germany with your geverment
How does he attach a 360 degree camera? That is so cool!!!
Good job, kid.
What does the drum major say to the sousaphone player?
Go bucks
I was there
Lucky! 👊
4:56 someone on the right dabbed
Go bucks!
