- In Demon Hill, the rules of gravity don't apply as you expect them to. Down is not down, exactly. The room, created by Los Angeles artist Julian Hoeber and on display at the Harris Lieberman Gallery in New York, is modelled on a stock roadside attraction, Hoeber says. It's based on a simple trick: the room is tilted on a compound angle. The result is disorienting and highly popular -- drawing about 20,000 people when it appeared in L.A. Michael Landy, professor of neural science and psychology at New York University, explains how the piece creates a battle between our senses.

So if you raised a child from birth in a house like this, when they were introduced into how we walk would they feel like how we feel in that room?
Sydney Crystal They'd probably grow up walking very strangely and when they go onto real ground it would look weird as fuck.
Sydney Crystal They'd be like Michael Jackson for the rest of their life
Sydney Crystal i was just about to ask the same question
it would be like being in one of these rooms to us, except everywhere
Yeah it's pretty simple

Hello friend
WhatAreYouBuyen guys - get a room
No, a fan will fall on your head
WhatAreYouBuyen good to know how much to go inside,i will make you a offer
I wonder how animals would react in that room
Brian Jackson put Donald trump in there
Trump would build a wall
Brian Jackson humans are animals. There are only 2 kingdoms on earth. Plants, or Animals. Yes you are an animal. What did you think you were? A plant?
Chloe Clare
What about fungi? i thought there were 5 kingdoms
Mcguy215 oh my naturalist said there's 2. I think fungi is just a decomposer. They decompose waste.
Michael Jackson did it first.
bruh
Fred Astaire!
Yeah except he used nails.
NZ FOY
Except that these guys had to tilt an entire room
Wow elect this man

GRAVITY HILLS
GRAVITY FALLS
EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS!
Yes!
twenty one pirates OK IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THINKING THIS
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good job, you pointed out the obvious, it's not anything new, I'm pretty sure it was referenced several times to boot.
What if someone was to be in a room like that for, let's say, a few months? Would their prior knowledge be thrown off temporarily and have a hard time walking on a flat surface?
i think 3 hours would do that actually, we adapt to our environments pretty quickly, so walking out of that will temporarily put you off balance on a flat surface
QB Machine it is rather fast. which is why when you swim at a beach for a while, your brain adapts to the rythem, and when you sleep later you will still feel the waves
Hyperfoxeye ohh thought I was weird feeling the waves
I had that with pools
no, because they're basically walking up and down a hill; the gravity works the same inside a box, so outside of the box they would have no trouble at all, they would just think everything looked really fucked up
Yes! It really did look this disorienting when we were in the room. I felt a little sea sick actually.
Ive done this. It was so cool and felt so weird like you were being pulled
I went to the one at 1:28
Norman nice profile pic
they had a furnished version of this in a museum i frequented when i was a kid. i saw it when i was around 3 or 4 and it really freaked me out. i thought the gravity in the room actually changed, it was really cool
I'd like to see this in a box made of mirrors
Msw .9 omfg yes
1:15-1:40 I CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT GRAVITY FALLS OMFG
M4nd9 P1n3s ikr me too XD
more like supernatural, lol
Gabgra11 there's an episode of gf where they go on a road trip and stop by other places like the mystery shack. one was a house that was basically like this art exhibit
Gabgra11 Tuesday? Heat of the Moment? A certain archangel?
I think the most interesting clip was at the very end where he tried to pour water into the glass. How bizarre.
He spilled water all over the art
watched this whole thing still dont understand how hes standing like that
same xD
seriously? i though people are smarter than that... hes standing straight up with normal gravity but the camera is tilted with the room to make the room look normal in the video...
GFY
Jk. The room is tilted + the camera is tilted.he is standing normal. It is a illusion just like the tittle of this video said!!!!
John Doe "tittle"?
"tittle"
Imagine recreating the Smooth Criminal music video in one of those things
The pyramid makes it look like there is an endless hallway.
I really want to try going in one of these rooms now...
Mint Mochi oh hey
CorgiBandage sorry I mean this not in a rude way, but do I know you?
that hurtsssssss
Mint Mochi I wish it was install in my room
is that vulkin?
What if you grew up in a room like that and then when you where a little bit older you went out into the real world....
try living with this sensation. I have an inner ear infection and I feel like I'm in an optical illusion or fun house every day. Though it's not as severe as it was a month ago it's just awful and I feel drunk a lot but sometimes I'd like to think it's fun and interesting because who knew something in the ear controlled our balance.
tsk tsk, you would've known if you had payed attention in science class! lol
Ikr ear infections, especially of the inner ear, are so much fun with how everything spins
Bickie Ditch I was home schooled a lot so I don't think we ever talked about the ear very much
Sounds like homeschooling is not very good.
Thehumorsable2 Actually according to many studies people who homeschool turn out to be smarter than a public school student who did the same amount of work
Surely this is only interesting because the camera is level with the room, if you were inside it yourself, youd just feel like you were in a room on a slope...?
I think because of the right angles, it's meant to look like a box. So you're brain is all messed up when you step inside. I wonder if you close your eyes that you'll be okay.
Rockovissi your*
even if you know its a slope. doesnt make it go away. the angles only make it an annoying and inconvenient place to sit in, bc theres nowhere to sit or cling to
its optical illusion at best
Stop just putting like 2 words of someone else speaking and then continuing with your passage lol
works for 99% invisible
there's a charm to it
I like it actually
Leon Leee itw actually 3-5
thank you
Leon Leee right lmao I thought they were trying to be funny
Great now my eyes feel all droopy.
help. brain.exe has stopped working. how to fix?
You have to uninstall gravity.exe first, and then proceed to delete and install brain.exe again. If successful, brain.exe should start running smoothly again.
* if you don't succeed, try updating brain.exe after doing all of the above.
+Dil Howlter DIL
I fixed my brain.exe but when i run it it says my common_sense.dll has not been found. Any help???
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
R4IN
hahhahahah lol my fav comment ever
there's a tv show in portugal where there is a room like this (23,5 angle) special guests in the show have to do stuff as if it was a normal room. the fun part is seeing them fall
luis malveiro como é que se chamava esse programa ?
127Kronos vale tudo
In france too
ah obrigado já n me lembrava :)
I want to go in this room while high
no you dont
YES
Bring Me The Memes I have brought the memes
build an entire house/mansion like this
actually there was a small house made like this when I took a trip up in ohio. I got sick and threw uo because it was so disorienting and we had to make our way up to the top and back down.
it doesn't look this cool in real life. There tilting the camera so the room doesn't look tilted.
I also thought it was the camera angle
I gotta make one of those... love the water pouring attempt at the end.
Needs some stereogram pictures on the walls.
I experienced something similar to this one time walking on a donkey trail. The trail ran parallel to the side of a hill. The majority of the trees grew perpendicular to the hill so you felt as if you were walking leaning toward the upper side of the hill when really you were walking upright
this pissed me off so bad
Why may i ask?
Martin Palmer same
I made me wanna try it and made me feel really idk weird.
The way this interview is structured is more disorienting than the work itself.
That room would be so cool and in my opinion (although never having been there) totally worth being visited.
someone must get in that thing while drunk.
*dizziness intensifies*
It's just a room on a tilt..
Stand in it though
There was actually a room just like this in a now closed park called AstroWorld in Houston, TX. The attraction was called The Wacky Shack and it was even better than this exhibit because it had different rooms. In one there were billiard balls “rolling up” on boards instead of down. In another room there was a faucet with water “flowing up” instead of down. Each room had something peculiar and each had a person working in it that would interact with the crowds, encouraging participation in the exhibit. This was back in the 80’s 😎 fun times
Listening to that professor speak makes me happy.
i think the room is tilted but the camera is tilted as well so the room looks normal
+Bianca Michelle Tagorda They mean that the camera was held so that it was parallel to the room
Inspired by the mystery spot??? Well don't go there on a Tuesday XD
Louisa Carlson omg thank goodness someone made this reference 💜💜💜 be my bestie 😂
😂
damn i was gonna comment this
😂😂😂😂😂
BLESS YOU
I actually experienced a mild version of this when moving houses. We were moving furniture into a house and the moving van was parked on a slope, so walking in and out of the back of the truck to move things was disorienting because the whole place was tilted.
It only looks odd in video because the camera is oriented with the room and not with the person in the room, otherwise the person would look normal and the room would look angled
This girl sounds a lot like Steavy (no idea how to spell it) from gmm
_GRASS_ TWENTY ØNE PILOTS
_GRASS_ I think it's Stevie (btw I'm not saying it's her but that's how I think it's spelled) but it really does sound like her!

Knott's Berry Farm - Buena Park, CA - did this in the old "Ghost Town" back in the early 60's (maybe even longer ago). Nice to see that it has moved forward!
Anyone know what the big spike thing in the middle of it is for?
that final shot XD
omg I've been to cosmos(1:28) and it was awesome! I felt like I had a hangover the entire time, but it was one of the coolest places I've been to.
The narrators voice was very soothing and calming.....
The Children's Museum in Pittsburgh PA has had a room like this for years
I feel like I could figure this out if I was in the room.
TheRebelEye most people would, it still messes up with your senses either way
Very nice editing!
Always loved the wacky cabin at Knotts' Berry Farm.
These rooms are neat. Nothing new though. There is a room like this that's been in the Vancouver ScienceWorld for at least the 20+ years. Probably many others around the world.
am I the only one who thinks it probably just feels like a slanted room?
Nope
nope but you are definitely wrong
Loved this! i could never get in, I'm sensitive to those kinds of things, but I loved the concept and idea
i loved the end with the water, that was so cool! and just by that you can know that its not the camera angle. just watching it made my head hurt
i'm gonna build my home like this
my brain hurts
There are rooms like this in Katmandu, Spain
In the upside down house.
Its a great theme park, I would recommend
I’ve been in one of these when I was in Kentucky!! It scared me so much
So? My neighbor lives in a trailer that isn't level.
WillShackAttack a house is better more room
So U meant to say
There are spots where "Gravity Falls"
Real Fizzie woooooooooooooooooooow
Anomalous Phenomenon-

Spare me from my pain I don't know it looks weird and funny
+Spare me from my pain it dose
Spare me from my pain shut up you are annoying
+Sana K ignore him/her
that is so freaking trippy
A similar spot was in an amusement park I visited, it was really cool but I started to feel nauseated very quickly.
Mystery Spot? WHERE ARE YOU FANDOM FREAKS?
YASSSSSS I WAS THINKING THAT
do these tacos taste funny to you?
AJ Dodds YAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS
Maria Chavez hehehe
AJ Dodds
XD IKR
why is this suddenly popular this was made fucking years ago
Matt Smith id fight the shit outta you
On my next vacation my family is going to the mystery whole in wv can’t wait to experience this there
There was a fake kitchen room that was tilted, just like the room in the video, that I used to step in at the Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa long ago as a kid. Luckily the room is still there after the museum got renovated. It was a very memorable experience.
yooo the first mystery spot you showed was the one in Santa Cruz that's where I live were famous guys
ArrKayCee woo to you
I still don't get it.
I've been in one of these. They r Cool! I remember there being a ladder in the place I went, and u could climb up it and stick ur legs straight out behind u
Just imagine an art exhibit with this designed in a way of a funhouse at the fair. That would be cool.
put animals in it!!
I'm not trying to be cruel here but I agree, this would be an interesting test to observe.
TheFlacker99 (Flak) how would it be cruel?
It wouldn't be cruel at all.
Good question Frankie, since I don't know the outcome of putting an animal in this room and if the animal shows severe dislike of it I can show everyone my curiosity wasn't intended for harm.
FISHYFINN1000 ... We humans are animals...
BROOOO THATS SO COOL
Anyone seen the game show "slideshow"? It's so good, I think it might be Australian. Teams have to act out a script in a set that slowly begins to tilt, but the camera makes it look like it's always upright
Very cool. Our perception is our reality.
not quite as confusing if the camera weren't rotated.
So that's how Michael Jackson does it
I heard he used velcro on the boots and floor. :)
I was just joking. That's why I put the :) after my comment.
I never experienced anything like this in one of those rooms, I stood at an angle and knew I was standing at an angle, I percieved the room as being slanted, and the floor was a slope, which it was.
It would be cool to see something like this painted in Venta Black
"You can know that what you are perceiving is wrong, but you'll still perceive it that way."
lol kind of like Christians.
so the trick to making something look angled is to put it at an angle.
Megan DeAngelis lol. Yup.
I've been to cosmos before, it's really cool
Been in an angled room like that before. it didn't feel weird in the way they describe at all.
Am I the only one that thinks the narrator sounds like ViHart?
I agree
Why did this just start trending all of the sudden?
This video was made in 2012
Quote probably because of reddit
Quote it's in everyone's recommended now 😂
it would be fun to see free style dance battle there
dis is weirdly awesome........love it
