  • In Demon Hill, the rules of gravity don't apply as you expect them to. Down is not down, exactly. The room, created by Los Angeles artist Julian Hoeber and on display at the Harris Lieberman Gallery in New York, is modelled on a stock roadside attraction, Hoeber says. It's based on a simple trick: the room is tilted on a compound angle. The result is disorienting and highly popular -- drawing about 20,000 people when it appeared in L.A. Michael Landy, professor of neural science and psychology at New York University, explains how the piece creates a battle between our senses.

There was actually a room just like this in a now closed park called AstroWorld in Houston, TX. The attraction was called The Wacky Shack and it was even better than this exhibit because it had different rooms. In one there were billiard balls “rolling up” on boards instead of down. In another room there was a faucet with water “flowing up” instead of down. Each room had something peculiar and each had a person working in it that would interact with the crowds, encouraging participation in the exhibit. This was back in the 80’s 😎 fun times

There was a fake kitchen room that was tilted, just like the room in the video, that I used to step in at the Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa long ago as a kid. Luckily the room is still there after the museum got renovated. It was a very memorable experience.

Good question Frankie, since I don't know the outcome of putting an animal in this room and if the animal shows severe dislike of it I can show everyone my curiosity wasn't intended for harm.

Anyone seen the game show "slideshow"? It's so good, I think it might be Australian. Teams have to act out a script in a set that slowly begins to tilt, but the camera makes it look like it's always upright

I never experienced anything like this in one of those rooms, I stood at an angle and knew I was standing at an angle, I percieved the room as being slanted, and the floor was a slope, which it was.
