  • It is revealed that Toboe attacks Darcia the moment he pulls the trigger on Quent, causing the bullet to miss. Bitten by Toboe, Darcia declares that he can no longer feel any pain because of Jaguara's poison, and flings the wounded wolf away. Quent pulls out a pistol and shoots Darcia, but Darcia mortally wounds Quent with his next shot. The gravely-wounded Toboe staggers over to Quent, and Quent pets Toboe as he realizes that the wolf kept him warm when he was freezing. Hubb, separated from the pack, encounters Darcia who slowly begins to strangle him, but Kiba interferes and asks why Darcia doesn't just use the stone that he possesses to open Paradise. Darcia laughs and declares "Paradise is right under your noses" before disappearing. Hige and Blue rejoin the pack, only to discover Quent and Toboe have died. As the pack continues on towards the Tree of All Seeds, Tsume remains behind to talk to Toboe, and reveals that his scar is a reminder of his cowardice, resulting in his banishment from his previous pack, and that it was Toboe who motivated him to pursue Paradise. The pack reaches the Tree of All Seeds, and Hubb, reading from the Book of the Moon, reveals this is the site of the Tower of the Seal the Nobles built to seal off Paradise. When asked by Blue how Paradise is described in the Book, Hubb reveals the last few pages are blank. Kiba explains Darcia is trying to become a wolf so he can open the true Paradise himself, and not a pale imitation like the one Jaguara attempted to open. The pack continues onward to the summit of the First Mountain, which is the gate to Paradise, but Hubb falls to his death in the attempt to scale it. It is then that Darcia (in wolf form) reappears as "the wretched beast" as mentioned in the prophecies of the Book of the Moon.

    Its been like.. 15 years since I have seen this show. I still can't keep from crying with the purely blissful way Toboe and Pops came together in their final moments. Still makes me think how lucky us humans are to have dogs as our companions.

      His death ropes in a lot of characters, so for me I felt sorry for Tsume when he had his talk with him. Pops and Blue saying goodbye hurt too.

      @@RoninMann I kinda don't like Tsume because he could've said something like that when Toboe was still alive... But he made Toboe treat him well, try to cheer him up all the time and Tsume always being arrogant to him...

      @@igorafae The arrogant/deadpan/closed off attitude is what makes his arc so memorable and his character so loveable (in my opinion). He’s clearly living with his own personal demons and Toboe is the one (if not the first), person to see him through his issues. It may not seem like it but Toboe had been planting seeds from the beginning. He made it possible for Tsume to have faith, find hope in the bleak, seek comfort in friendship, and discover what it truly means to be a pack- even though Toboe was, in his words, ‘just a naive little runt’.
      Toboe played a huge role in Tsume’s character development, and it’s made evident with how much his death affected him. That’s what makes Tsume’s farewell to Toboe so impactful. He played a key role in Tsume’s journey to paradise, and to what paradise itself means to him.

    I cried so much when toboe died. He was the heart of the team. The optimistic little pup that somehow held the group together...
    And seeing him when he died reunited with the old lady who raised him that he accidentally killed in his excitement, I just broke...

    These OVAs are so emotionally hard to watch. I've rewatched the show several months ago, but it's still too painful to see these scenes again. "Destroyed" is the best description of the state of mind after this episode

    Why do we even put our glasses on to watch when we know it's gonna go all blurry anyway. It takes my mind to the videos of colourblind people putting on those Enchroma colour-correcting glasses, only with them it's tears of joy.

    This is truly soul destroying... not gonna lie, just watching this reaction video made me just as leaky... toboe wasn't even my favorite character(s)... (I really do like blue and hige as a pair)... and for me... I walked into this series *blind*, and yet knowing near the end... that it was likely some wouldn't make it... I remember seeing cher's demise and going "well there's the sad death trope..." but the heart rending moments to come... blue saying "if I can be with you at the end..." and then this...... when you started this I knew all of what was to come... and I remember thinking "oh this poor bastard has no idea what he's walking into..." well... now you know......

    • @Sacrifishul
      @Sacrifishul Před 2 lety +4

      soul destroying is the perfect way to describe it. i was about 12 when i watched WR for the first time and i don’t recall another moment in any anime/manga where i was such a complete sobbing mess.

    • @RoninMann
      @RoninMann  Před 2 lety +4

      "Oh this poor bastard has no idea what he's walking into..." 🤣 that tickled me. I've never cried while editing a video before this show. When editing you're essentially watching it again....but slower.. By the time I started editing this episode, about 2 weeks had passed so I had forgotten how exactly I reacted. So, it was a fun watch, even for me as a viewer.
      Blue and Hige are a great pair and that's a great line she delivers followed quickly by the amazing score. It's a very specific part of the show I enjoyed in regards to how the scenes were assembled.
      I still get leaky watching this reaction. It really doesn't take much for this show to get you there emotionally. When all the talent in this show work together so harmoniously, they just rain upon you the moment you start watching.

    • @RoninMann
      @RoninMann  Před 2 lety +3

      It’s really tragic, but it really does it beautifully. Toboe’s death ropes in multiple character arcs at the same time which intensifies the impact of his death. It makes you think of everyone being effected by it.
      When Tsume wanted to stay behind and talk with him, it killed me the moment he said that. It made me think of his new burden of carrying the weight of his death on his shoulders. It also makes his character come full circle and shows who he really is inside.
      Plus Quent’s death on top of that and him showing affection to a wolf in his final moments.
      It’s just too much. 😭

    How did I end up here? It's not like I needed a reminder of how much that episodes kicks you in the balls. I'm rarely affected by sad scenes in tv, but that scene with Quent and Toboe always hits like truck. I both hate and love that episode, as well as the previous one. The moment that detective's wife died, I knew that there was something "wrong" with this show. When I first saw it, I was seriously expecting there to be some kind of happy ending, because the entire show was just so melancholic, so it would have made sense. But nope.

    Ngl first time this showing up in my feed... but I watched this 2010ish for the first time ever... It is super underrated and the fact only One season made it even much more Rare of an anime to find. This single anime has my #1 spot! Then its Dragonball series and now One Piece has overtaken Naruto Shippuden 😅.
    Wolf's Rain the best one ive seen yet. *change my mind* 😅
