- We spent the day in search of Greenland Paddle wood as we want to make our own greenland paddles! We managed to find a sawmill (Chi Kee Sawmill) in Hong Kong to check out what types of wood they have available for us to make our Greenland Paddle.
Chi Kee Sawmill has been around for a long time but unfortunately, they have been asked to relocate. We are privileged to be able to see this place and have the opportunity to find some wood for our project. Now, it's time for us to find wood for our Greenland Paddle or even a Norsaq!

I've made 2 greenland paddles, with a lot of help from my friend John of Valkyrie Craft. Wooden paddles look lovely and provide buoyancy, I'm sure you will love it

Definitely interesting seeing the active sawmill and comparing it to my experience. So, this sparked my interest and I had to look up "Making a Greenland Paddle"...Handcrafting your own paddle (or really anything) will give it a deeper meaning and life✌
If you can make your own, I would do it! Each wooden paddle will be unique and it would be so personal.

Haha! It was weird to see myself behind the wheel as well when I was editing.
Pine wood is quite easy to carve. You can re-purpose discarded wooden bed slats for norsaq making.
