The boyfriend shouldn't be judged on what his friends did without his knowledge. However, he should be judged what he does now that he knows. Cut ties from those friends. Even though the one friend didn't intend to let it get that far, it did get that far. So, it shows bad judgement and he shouldn't be associated with that.
Might not matter, OP might have a trauma response to him as well and they may need to break up for her mental health regardless.
He didn't mean it to get that far - that's why he did nothing to stop it.

Tbh the boyfriend immidiately after learning about the prank and having his girlfriend in the shower should take a gun (unloaded of course, not that they have to know) and point it at the "friends" and just act angrily, tell them to laugh now because its a funny prank. Yeah I know that would be bad but fuck would it not be right.

Those "friends" are real kidnappers for sure. They'll probably plan on ACTUALLY kidnapping someone in the very near future. They need to go to prison immediately.

Okay so I’ve kidnapped friends to take them to surprises before, but it went like this: I went to their house, knocked on the door, let the friend see me and then said “hey! I’m kidnapping you for a surprise day trip with me!” And then put a blindfold on her so she couldn’t tell where we were going, and then put her in my passenger seat to go there. I did NOT actually stage a legitimate kidnapping with groping and fake threats of assault and violence. What is wrong with these guys?!
Yeah I know like for bachelor/bachelorette parties it sometimes starts with friends showing up to their house and saying hey we are going to blindfold you and tie you up you have no choice you are coming with us. This is of course with them showing their face the whole time. Those would be examples of fake kidnapping. what happened to OP was real kidnapping.

My great grandfathers "friends" tried that kidnaping thing since it was a "tradition", despite him saying if they tried it, they might not get a chance to regret it.

If the young lady who was "pranked" ( literally kidnapped) had been armed, things could have taken an even more tragic turn. As is, she is now traumatized for life and hopefully the kidnappers get to reflect on their misdeed while spending a goodly amount of time behind bars. The driver also deserves some form of punishment although perhaps not as severe as the two sadistic bastards who put this young lady through hell. As for the boyfriend, it seems as though his intent was to innocently surprise his girlfriend with a proposal but his intent went very sideways. I won't say that he deserves jail time but I'd say IF he has any conscience whatsoever, he'll spend the rest of his days regretting what he put his then girlfriend through even though doing so wasn't his intent.
As for the poor, unfortunate young lady, I hope she can manage to recover from this traumatic experience but I suspect she's doomed to relive it from now on.
I am guessing your ancestors are from Central Asia, cause unfortunately, there is a tradition of kidnapping brides there, notably in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
When I was in EMS back in the 1980s, whenever we did backboard training, the guys liked to strap down the girls, including their hands, and put them in the dumpster.

I was never kidnapped, but held hostage by a boyfriend. If I'm cornered or followed I instantly go into fight, flight or freeze. That fear doesn't go away even with therapy or who it happens with
I’m a child abuse survivor (early childhood to young adulthood) and my brother was horribly violent and my mother enabled and encouraged his abuse, he’d corner me, grab my hair and smash my head into walls or strangle me to knock me out. Same as you, even with therapy I will go into flight or fight if I feel cornered, my flatmate has to make sure I have an “exit” always available as they realised I literally can’t control that feeling.

I just.. I just have absolutely no words for what OP went through.. The fact that ALL of them thought this was a good idea is just disgusting and vile... To terrify someone like this, make them feel they were going/could be killed, raped, I just cannot even fathom how someone would think yes, let's make her think she's about to get raped and killed ALL for a marriage proposal.. As someone who is a SURVIVOR of SA with attempted murder, I just cannot explain the absolute FEAR that took over me.. I had to keep thinking of my children to keep up the fight but my body was wearing down and I knew I couldn't fight anymore. I am so thankful that a man saw and tackled him off of me... I am in tears right now thinking of the sheer terror she went through...

Yup :-/ been there. Spent over 8/9 years mentally getting over what my ex put me through every day. I'm still, nearly 11 years later, trying to fix the physical damage he caused. I have ptsd from what I suffered, genuine honest to god piss myself if I smell the tobacco he smoked ptsd and I still have people, medical professionals included, telling me I cant have ptsd because I'm still alive and I've never served. I hope op manages to find a healthy, new way of living cause as we know, nothing will ever be the same again and that's one of the biggest mistakes I made at first, trying to get back to my old life. @Rachel Martin it isnt a case of getting new drs for me, my primary care dr is great (I'm in the uk so it's my gp) my therapist.....I'm on my 17th so yeah lol the uk is notoriously bad and just outright awful when it comes to mental health (sorry idk the right word, English is not my native language) there is a lot of stigma in the uk for mental health still. I had my charge nurse when I was admitted to hospital via the emergency department tell me I wasnt autistic because I'm a 32 year old woman (true story) and that anxiety and ptsd only happen to vets 🤦🏼♀️ I've had other non regular medical professionals say similar or be surprised I have ptsd and autism, I've even had one dr from the emergency department tell me my pain was in my head and I only believe it's real because I have bipolar disorder and bpd.......I had a dislocated AND broken ankle with a grade 3 tear of the ligaments........he was also the dr who told me it was just a sprain and it only looked like that because I'm fat so now, 5 years later, I'm doing physio and having surgery to rebreak and pin my ankle cause I'm wheelchair bound due to his neglect and I cant sue because they never filed my paperwork at the hospital because I wasnt admitted (it's a long story about nhs, how crappy the uk is etc) I'm a retired nurse too, I worked at one of the best hospitals in Scandinavia for over 10+ years and I still get crap like this, at this point I'm used to it and when people tell me about my own health I simply say "I'll be sure to remind my body of that next time" and if that doesnt work, I go into detail about what my ex did to me and ask them simply, and what would you say your mental health would be like after?

IIRC way back when people were shocked that vets were coming back acting like women, because that was such a common thing for women to have. (Also like, there was a study showing that sex workers had twice the rates of PTSD as Vietnam vets?) So yeah, it's not exactly unheard of for women who have been through sexual assault to have trauma about it. I thought we knew this. But, I'm not in the UK. (That's also not taking into account people who grew up or live in areas where they see constant violence, what would they say about someone who LIVED in an area where the vets had served in?)
This is all to say, I'm incredibly sorry that you've been through all this bullshit from the medical profession and I hope you have better luck in the future. You shouldn't have to be constantly fighting and vigilant. You deserve a rest. I wish they would give you one.

The fact that she was touched inappropriately would make that a felony in Germany. Which carries a sentence of at least 1 year, and the way it was done here, it would be more likely several years in jail (no parole possible if sentenced to more than 2 years).

OMG this story. It took me a moment to remember it but oh boy when I did, and remembered the sheer chaos...
Story one: she absolutely was assaulted in multiple ways. They are all culpable. The drivinf friend should have pulled over immediately and identified them and if the 2 psychos persisted in assaulting her, he should have called the police and tried to intervene. This was not a joke, it was a legit kidnapping and assault.

The Driver tried to stop them, by the OP's own admission, but couldn't get them to stop, so rushed to the byofreinds house as the two commiting the crime were muscular, athletic men saying some really fucked up stuff. Calling the police would take longer than just getting to the boyfriends place, as it was only 7 to 10 minutes away, and that was the end goal anyway, and would get the back-up needed to make them stop if they didn't.
Stressful situations and panic make it hard to think logically like to stop and make them stop.
Maybe you know of an update? On this one OP just said he wasn't OK with it and that he said something to them. He should have pulled over, and told them that it was over, and this wasn't what Fiance wanted.

As a person who has PTSD, all I can say is that rherapy did greatly help me in sorting through things and develop coping skills. I hope OP keeps having good support and that she is able to go to a therapist to help her further. The trauma she went through is no laughing matter. 💙
In my culture one of the ways people get married was bridal capture but it's mostly consensual. The girl and the boy usually plan it out, then the boy's relatives help kidnap her. Of course sometimes it's not consensual at all. The fact that these people probably live in a 1st world country or at least more western one and wanted to terrify their friend's girlfriend is disgusting. It is one of my worst fears to be kidnapped and for it to be done by people you know is horrifying. I hope that she'll get better one day and the boyfriend dumps his friends.

my mother was kidnapped and the people make of her a sexual slave for a month, i find this story gave me rage, it seems like the word "prank" is becoming (for some insane people) an excuse for making damage and try to get away with it....those guys wanted her to be scared , bunch of monsters, absolutely disgusting

1st story: I guess the ex boyfriend didn't know that his new friends kidnapped his girlfriend. And what's worse is he thought that they were picking her up like a normal people not traumatized her.

I was R@ped in my teens and when the dude was committing the act he was all bravado and gross but the second the police arrested him, he apparently (according to his sister who was my friend) cried like a baby. Unfortunately he got away with it cause the uk police sucks :-/ but I hope to the gods these assholes get locked up

People have actually died from “prank” kidnappings. Either the victim dies from heart attack or other means. Or the kidnappers get killed when the victim fights back.

Oh there's another update to the Compliment story. Basically the "friend" tried to make it seem like OP's husband was pursuing her and bated him with sexual acts and flirting. Needless to stay they have cut her out and are no longer friends.

@LadyShay No, she did get cheated on. She tried and failed to manipulate the situation to prove herself right. OP and her husband told her to seek help before cutting her off. If being cheated on damaged her that badly, she needs to get herself together before going into another relationship.
When I was a young child (maybe 5 - 7) I used to hang out in our front yard a lot, and I would say hi to any people walking down the street. My mother didn’t like this, and instead of talking to me about stranger danger, she hired my uncle and his friend to dress in masks, pull up in a van while I was outside, yank me in, and pretend to kidnap me. I only remembered being pulled into the van before I blacked out. Next thing I knew, I woke up on my living room couch surrounded by my parents and uncle and they were laughing. Not my mother, though, she was just screaming and scolding me about how stupid it was for me to talk to strangers.
I now suffer from severe agoraphobia and social anxiety, and it has only worsened my PTSD.
I would’ve thought this whole thing was a fever dream if my uncle hadn’t confirmed my suspicions over a decade later by bringing it up in a joking manner. I don’t think it was very funny, but whatever I guess 😅

How gutting that could’ve been what happened and OPS first reaction was to try to keep that from happening. The husband couldn’t even consider it a possibility while he slept with another woman in his CHILDRENS home???

There is a bavarian “tradition“ of bride-knapping, but the best men just lead the bride to a hidden room and she knows in advance and its a litte party. The groom has to find her via scavenger hunt and exchange her for beer/wine etc. It is fun and games and the bride knows what happens. But that 1st story is just horrible
In the proposal story, it sounds like the boyfriend didnt think his friends would do this. From his his actions of taking her upstairs to help her, him actually being shocked and angry at his friends and him even giving her some space afterwards. What i think might have happened was that he asked his friends to just pick her up like normal people. Not to scare her half to death.

My "friends"in high school tried kidnapping me and my younger sister and it ended with 2 of them speeding off and one laying in the road with my knife in his neck. That was when i was 16 im 34 now and spent from ages 17-27 in prison serving ⅔ of a 15 year sentence for defending myself and my sister while the 2 that took off did 2 years of juvie. Gotta love Canadian laws that make self defense a worse crime than kidnapping.

The scary thing is though in the heat of the moment it might not matter. Many victims have said they had self-defense training or mace or whatever but when it actually happens to you sometimes you can't fight the flight response.
There was a video rslash did about a woman with a psycho ex where did everything right, got a gun and self-defense and security in her house, and even wanted to get a guard dog ... but they were too expensive so she ended up just getting some big, lovable cuddle-brute from the shelter. Well her ex broke in planning on kidnapping and murdering her and she panicked, all her training just out the window, but her dopey lovebug of a dog basically ripped the guy's throat out for her (the story about her brother and SIL wanting her to put the dog down cause now they didn't feel safe around it even though it saved her life).
I remember when my sister's friends tried to do this prank on her and she nearly stabbed someone's eye out with the house key

It was to surprise her i suppose. For me it was a random dude grabbing me and i just point blank elbowed him in the head.
I feel bad for the BF. His friends turned a cute comedic proposal into a traumatic event that ruined his relationship.
That comment about PTSD occurring brought me back to high school. In ninth grade, there was a bomb threat (the first of many, which turned out to be kids trying to get out of class) but the first time, we never had any drills outside of fire drills, our teacher never explained what was going on. I kept looking outside for smoke. My teacher set up games of “quackadilly oma” (this was 2005) and everyone was chill, laughing, talking.

Yeah it made me think of some experiences that happened high school for me to one was we actually had an active shooter at one point I remember being terrified in the room during the lockdown other kids however we're kind of laughing and giggling and then I remember there was a bomb threat but we didn't know what was going on at the time so we were basically evacuated into a field and told we had to go home still unsure what was going on I couldn't get ahold of any family members couldn't get ahold of my mom no one and I don't think the best thing to do was walk to walk 2 miles I did have a friend take me home but it was terrifying. And of course the last hidden anything cuz was my r-word and how do I remember going into the bathroom and trying to get the door closed before he got there but he was faster and I was trapped I remember being pinned screaming crying begging them to stop that begging them to let me go I remember almost throwing up I felt like I was truly in danger. OP definitely is going to therapy.

I’ve read an article about a CZcamsr “prankster” ( I don’t know or watch their channel) once who did a shooting prank in a mall in the upper part of my home state, long story short: he wound up getting shot by a security guard and arrested, craziest part is that his family said that he was good kid and wouldn’t do anything like that. For the last story: I respect his practices. I'm with OP, that's an attractive quality. When it comes to men, I don't just look for what he does for me but also what he does for other people. For example, going out with the man in my life, I noticed how he not only held the door open for me but also people who came in after. I'm not going to think he wants to get in another girl's pants just because he holds the door open for her or compliments her. If he did and never did any of that for me, then yeah, I can understand that suspicion. I'm sure OP's husband compliments her all the time, though! Sounds like that's just the kind of person he is!

Regarding the first story, the driver could at any point have stoped the car and de-escalated the situation but he didn't. He isn't remorseful for what he did, only for the way she reacted and the eventual aftermath

It's the same if your friend asks you to pick them up and they've just committed a crime. If you drive off with them you're considered in on it, even if you didn't know about it beforehand.

I have PTSD, specifically complex-PTSD from long term abuse as a child, teen and young adult from my family, and regular PTSD from very specific events where my brother was incredibly violent. It doesn’t matter that I wasn’t killed, his violence was so bad I thought I was going to die, he’d grab my hair and would smash my head into a wall, or he’d strangle me, it got to the point where as an young adult I couldn’t be anywhere near him if he’d drank any amount of alcohol because I’d vividly remember his violent outbursts when he drank, this led to the specific alcohol he drinks being a trigger, where even today if I smell it I get put back in those very moment, reliving that abuse.
Doesn’t matter that I didn’t die, that sense of terror is horribly unique and unforgettable, it’s sadly not something you just get over and forget, it’s something that haunts you forever. Doesn’t matter that it was “just a prank”, if only one person is laughing then that’s not a prank, that’s assault and kidnapping.
I would like to recommend trauma therapy, it’s helped me a great deal, and if possible OP cutting all contact with the individuals involved. For me cutting all contact with my mother and brother massively helped me, being in their presence set off my flight or fight so I put myself first, I put my well-being and mental health first, I made sure I felt safe and happy in life. It takes time to heal, but therapy massively helped me, I still have triggers and trigger dates (cPTSD has a lot of trigger dates), but therapy has helped me massively with those trigger dates where I cope a LOT better than years ago.
I wish you the very best, your sister has your back and loves you, don’t be afraid to lean on her for support as it sounds like she’ll go to the ends of the earth for you.

As teens we kidnapped our friend and it was sooo obvious and bungling and we kept laughing and saying in a deep voice "we kidnapped you heeee hee hee". So clumsy and silly, no actual threats. As someone with C-PTSD and multiple other mental illnesses, I can confidently say that PTSD is the worst of them. You can get better and have a good prognosis with depression, ED, Agoraphobia and so on. But PTSD is engraved into your bones. No therapy in the world will make you feel safe the way you did before it happened. That story makes me feel so disgusted, mad and especially sad for the OP. I hope she gets the justice she deserves and those people (all 3 of them) go behind bars.
I had seen the proposal story awhile ago, I didn’t see the update where the boyfriend was just making it a silly goofy thing, and they decided to go overboard. I hope OP can heal, and I feel really bad for the boyfriend because he’s probably going to have to lose her (which I don’t blame her for at all) because of something is “friends” did. I understand the one friend wasn’t in on it in that capacity, but I feel like he could have ended it at any point. I do feel just a drop of remorse for him as well. It must have been awful and strange to be in that situation, not knowing what to do or how to stop them.

The proposed story legit reminded me of another prank back then. So theses people were pranking this one guy by tying up his best friend to a chair and shooting him. The man was severely traumatized by it even after everyone said it was a prank. Of course the original post of said video got taken down for obvious reasons but it paints a clear picture of the lengths people will go to get a few clicks on CZcams because of a “harmless prank” that’s way darker than it seems.

While I don't agree with people who say "once a cheater, always a cheater", and I believe people can change, there's still the issue of the broken trust: most of the time, there's simply no coming back from that, no matter how much one is willing to change for the better.

That proposal story is so screwed up. It reminds me of a similar story that was featured on 48 Hours and Sally: a college girl was abducted by her "friends" first by them "rhetorically" asking (on camera) what she would do if this were her last day alive. She thought they were joking until they overpowered her, blindfolded and bound her, and took her away. Even worse is that they let her say her goodbyes to her family (as she was crying) and then pretended to slit her throat! Then it was all, "Ha-ha! It's just a movie!" She obviously pressed charges, they all were mad at her for "overreacting" and I don't remember what happened in the long run (although some of them did get jail time) and some time later the ringleader of the group mysteriously died.
Very bizarre story.
for the first story, I also feel really bad for the boyfriend, he obviously didnt want that to happen to OP and was also rightfully distraught. It sucks he might lose out on his future SO over that.
Me too. It was supposed to be a goofy proposal, and an OBVIOUS faux kidnapping, not an actual kidnapping. I do think they'll need to take time, but I hope they can make it work in the long run.

OK, no. These friends are assholes. Kidnapping is one thing, but they kidnapped her and went out of their way to make her think that she was going to be sexually assaulted? This isn't a benign prank gone wrong.
They owe her a new phone too.
ETA: Make it seem more real? The original plan had zero scary elements! What 'more real' did they think was needed? They wanted to split them up.
Obviously the girlfriend was the biggest victim in the first story, but I feel bad the boyfriend might lose out on her because his idiot friends decided to be psychos for a day. The driver gets no sympathy from me. Saying you disagree with how something went after the fact when you still went along with it anyway doesn't change much. He should have either fully de-esculated the situation as he was driving by telling her who they were and what was happening immediately upon seeing her in such a panicked state, or not have been part of it at all when he found out their insane twist on her boyfriend's plane.
Wow that first story is horrifying. Why would anyone think putting someone through that as a "prank" is a good idea? That sounds like a traumatic thing to go through. Those guys suck so much
