Absolutely love how these two are handling there careers these days, especially Kristen Stewart, she may not be up everyone's faces with big blockbuster movies all year, but she's making great indie choices, she's most appreciated in Europe which is very telling. Same for Jesse, I'm looking forward to the movie he did with Isabelle Huppert. American Ultra looks hilarious and I can't wait to see them team up for Woody Allen's next movie. Both of them are very underrated performers.
If you like Jesse, see him in The Double, it's SO good.

I don't know, it's kind of presumptuous to think a person only gets a comment because of their gender. The idea of smiling is pretty universal, so to turn it into a gender thing so assuredly (you said that is "exactly" it) seems a bit much. You could have simply said, in general it's not good for her to be told to smile because people in general shouldn't be told to. She happens to be a woman as well, but the more important thing is that she's a person.
It just seems kind of speculative. It's easy to be biased when assessing who gets judged more for tiny things like who is told to smile. It could just be that the times women are told to smile get stuck in your head more. It's just very hard to know these things for sure, and for all we know, both men and women may get a lot of crap for not smiling, I mean, Bill Belichick does for example. I've certainly seen comments like this directed towards, let's say, introverted men. I guess I just think it's really easy to make yourself look moral when you bring up the whole gender thing. Like any time you are criticized you can make yourself look more moral than everyone else by saying "women are judged more than men," (without knowing if it's really true), it's just such an easy thing to say to make yourself look morally better than others.
So I don't know, I agree with you with respect to the fact that she shouldn't be judged, but it's not so much because she's a woman... I just think people shouldn't be judged.

And I guess the other point is that, well again, I'm in the middle about the media thing. The media does affect us, but we're not morons. I mean, we _are_ capable of thinking for ourselves. We all are. Maybe some more than others, but we all are. We should give people more credit sometimes. I'm sure everyone will at least sometimes question the media. Sure we're influenced by it a lot, but you shouldn't exaggerate that to the point where you're saying we never want to think about anything. Of course people think about what they believe. We're smart creatures. We're not zombies.
