- Elite downhill riders are back between the tape for the first time in 2023 in Lenzerheide, Switzerland for the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup. A new year and new rules see the introduction of a semi-final round where riders can gain more points counting toward the overall standings.

gutted that I can't watch the main race for free these days! I guess we have to deal yet again with more discrimination based on income level. Ahwell..... I guess I'll go do something else with my life......Wishing all the riders a fun experience in the new format, I hope they're still allowed to film their runs and make their own videos of the event. I will likely be supporting the riders through watching their own channels instead of giving money to a company that has $34 billion in assets! Thanks Redbull for the free content up to now!

Everytime I watch DH, I always say how I wish I saw less of every run! Thank you discovery for making sure nobody sees 75% of each run!
They are gonna focus on ten riders and the rest will be jumping through hoops to survive.

Meh, coverage wise the Redbull broadcast delivered a very similar amount for those outside the top 30. With how much we saw of the top 10 in semi finals and then we'll see for the 30 guys in finals, it will probably be more shown in total.
But they clearly need more practice in commentating, overlays and making the broadcast interesting, redbull created a much better show.
They save it up for the finals. There‘s like 3 riders on course at the same time for semis. That gives more time for riders in the finals as it‘s less riders. The finals covered like 95% of the track (unfortunately they missed that spot where Kolb crashed 😖)

The voices don't have enough bass and impact in the commentary. Rob was the best at it. These guys feel like stand ins.

edit: I payed 2 euros on Eurosport for the finals, honestly it's decent, there are full runs and very good camera angles, the commentary.. it is what it is
@@AlexanderOrion it needs to be more than that. It had the industry leader doing it and they clearly didn't consider properly removing him and replacing him with someone who doesn't have the same impact. Sound is everything in video, it currently runs like a 1980/90 eurosport commentary. They need to get it right.

Hey Warner Brothers u really need to step up the broadcast as fast as possible.
Missing the steep woods, a key section in this race... cutting between the cameras is awefull to watch, too
Now we had to pay for the races, u had to deliver a higher quality than RB in the previous years
What a bad show..they messed up everything, without Red bull, Rob Caluori and the others is not the same, simply because they put all the passion for this sport in their work. Missing the old:wooooaaa so slippery, i think that I Will not follow the streaming this year, thank you D+

Missing Red Bull coverage of DH. Their website interface was miles ahead. Select riders, crashes and best runs.
I was under the impression Discovery would be covering more of each racer's race run. Doesn't seem to be the case.
How could they cover more of each run. The gap between the riders is still the same? They can't bend time.

Aaw, I do miss Rob SCREAMING through our TV speakers 😂 and Claudio fact-checking him 😂, and latterly Tracy Hannah also, but I think Rick McG is a competent commentator too 👍🏼

What great racing, amazing to see Rachel back in the women's & the men's race just stacked with riders who could all win it. The production team need to sort their act out though. I thought Ric did a far better job commentating than yesterday.

We, the fans, don't deserve this. This is a downhill race, we want to live that emotion, we want to ear Rob yell: look at the time! We want to impress ourselves when there's a rider crashing, but this broadcast is like watching an 80's race. The only stream for this sport and they show us 3% of the track of every rider... What the heck?

Definite teething problems with the production and the white font on translucent background is REAL hard to read at times.
BUT: Ced/Ric had some good banter, the drone shots were cool, the track coverage for the top ten was a big improvement.

I'm excusing Cedric because he is commenting in a second language, the other guy needs to up his game. Rob, Elliot, Tracy Hannah and Claudio where all so good at the DH. Hopefully in time the commentary team will grow and improve, I'm paying for the finals this year in hope its worth it for the riders.

I'm so glad to be watching downhill again, but bloody hell, mate.. they are a little off the mar with this in spots....on some the camera angles, especially chopping everyone's runs! ... I know there's 60 riders but cutting the top names is stupid.. even the commentary is going to take a miracle to be a tenth of the caliber to Rob Caluori & Elliot etc. We need Redbull back. Why is there Redbull sponsorship at the gate? Jeez. Least they streaming it and not shutting us out... ffs can't win eh. What do you reckon?

The commentating was ok, I don't really mind about it, but the chosen angles maybe could have been better .. Idk, but I couldn't see a proper perspective of how fast they handled the track other than easy wide sections to film to add screen time. I also feel like jumps shots are easy to capture but not interesting to show at high level in a downhill race.
Maybe put more boys and cameras, even if they are lower quality. Also, if you film more of the hardest technical sections rather than the easy stylish predictable ones, commentators will have a better time to feel the race and the emotions throughout the rider's runs and they won't have to force the entertainment if they are better entertained themselves.
Hope you'll do it better but honestly, I start to appreciate fans and rider's videos more than the official content as I can feel more of the event's ambiance

Finals was live behind paywall on gcn and discovery as it was announced everywhere. Astonishing how many ppl didn‘t know about that.

People will start to like the new commentators, it takes time people don't like change. Remember it is new to them also it takes time to build chemistry

A little feedback: It would be good to have the qualifying position number listed next to the names to make it more clear.
Also, does anybody know why Amaury Pieron, Reece Wilson and Sam Hill didn't race? Was hoping the commentators said why these big names did not take part.

Why are the riders protected in the semi final?
Love the bike design czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L and functionality. It is hard to align the front tired to center the disk brakes. The brake wheel touches the stationery side of the brake caliper and pad. I aired the tire up to 40 psi as the markings say 40-60psi. Left the house for a few hours and came back to an exploded innertube.All in all it seems to be a good bike. Have not ridden it yet though so that's the max of my knowledge. Update, put a new innertube made sure the tire was set properly and it did the same thing in under 20 minutes as second pic shows.
At least Cedric did a great job 👌 everything else was like they are still in school...

Well, that was pretty decent coverage, thanks. Room for improvement but is first one. Need to give more info on upcoming riders, how many left etc. Don't show Gracia during Bruni's course preview, maybe even have bruni talking. There were obvious spots where a bit more info would have helped new viewers. Even some background eg X world cup events, person w most points at end of season is world cup champ, separate to world champ. Tbh though i don't know if this will attract many new viewers on recurring basis, you've got to be pretty into it to watch tens of runs that to a casual observer are all the same. Poss need to try to attract folk who are mountain bikers, help them by bridging gap in knowledge from casual beginner or intermediate rider to dh racing.
Oh, also, spend ten mins on pb and vital like I did and you'll know things like Troy's steering gizmo. Be nice to hear a bit more about status of fan favourites like pierron and cathro.
On Warner, yeah he was great but if you can only enjoy it w him then maybe you're not as into DH as you think? People move on, get over it.

yep... most ppl complaning about Rob, but that is a lot of other most important shit going on like, cameras nobody wants to see helmets zoomed in we want to se tyres contact and track, split times are shit also, a lot of the cg pop ups are wrong miss name a lot of athletes, jr men final stands got thanee seagrave and vali holl on top 3! WTF!?!? New semi final format its completely pointless and stupid if 20 out of 60 riders are safe this should not be a semi final but some sort of second chance for 40 riders to do a final so would be better to pick top 10 out of the 40 that are not safe to run in a last minute chance for a final poitless to have 20 safe riders doind this run...

first and foremost this broadcast should be about the sport and their fans, this coverage is below average. you are taking something by not showing the finals, and put some teams or brands on some riders not just their names they deserve that!
The sport is now about focusing on a handful of selected riders to milk from.

Broadcast needs work!! During the finals we had no clue who was still to come down next. No mention of how times compared to qualis and semis as finals runs happened. Didn't even show the podium presentation. Had a woman legend come back and win and then a first time elite win and we don't get to see them celebrate? Instead we got choppy commentary of reviewing runs.
Only positive was Reece Wilson bringing real solid analysis to the program. And what happened to seeing the full race? Kolo crashes and we had no idea how or why?
Agree to your point. Don‘t know if you noticed there were 2 streams. One that showed the winners ceremony and one that showed the Reece interviews. WTG? Just make it one stream so ppl don‘t miss anything. Also: who the fuck wants to see the team manager during the rider‘s race run? I was biting my sofa when they kept doing that. Bad directing!
Overall i found it ok tho with the longer coverage of each rider during finals.
Watching downhill racing was always something i really enjoyed to do in the weekends and now it's completely changed and not on redbull anywhere this is absolutely ridiculous!! Great that they've ruined it for the people who also support downhill racing by completely changing it for the worse!! What a mess......
