Probably the best climax to a song ever. The original is magnificent but didn't believe they could do it justice live but this is wonderful. RIP Arthur.
Amen! And the sun setting over a beautiful Glastonbury with the crowd, young and old, appreciating the music of a true great. Arthur was majestic and backed by some truly wonderful musicians. Perfection
Yes! Greatest album ever! Tears where coming down my face watching this live! I felt I was dreaming. Even got to meet Arthur backstage! I was one of the photographers. R.I.P.
I've watched this performance countless times on here but was at the festival that year n didn't see them! I know I'd earmarked them pre fest but dunno why missed them, I hope it was the super furries that made me stray because that was a goodun
Remember folks what Arthur is saying-"For the time that I've been given such a little while, and the things that I must do consist of more than style." Words to live by. One of the best live videos I've seen on youtube, and I've seen thousands.
The fact that he was performing in this venue, with an orchestra, was evidence that he wasn 't taken for granted, and that he was appreciated. That is good.
The underrated genius and grandeur of Arthur Lee put on full display. One of the greatest songs of the Sixties and the Rock Era. Forever Changes is the greatest album released in 1967. Please put Arthur Lee and Love in the R&R H of F. Rest easy, genius.
I adore this song. It's my favourite song from one of my favourite albums, where EVERY title is a classic. This live version is superb. One musician in particular really grabs my attention, although she doesn't feature that prominently in the video; I'm talking about the young violinist with long straight blonde hair. She transmits her joy at being part of the experience in her face and her body language - she's totally having a ball! Her smile and head movement at 06' 26" explain exactly what I'm saying. Don't blink, or you'll miss her! My wife and I saw 'Love with Arthur Lee' twice in the early noughties - in Wrexham and Shrewsbury, U.K. This was Arthur with the bare band, excluding the brass and string sections. They performed the Forever Changes album and they were fantastic on both occasions. R.I.P. Arthur Lee - truly one of the greats.
Incredible to see this live and so well done. The song “ You Set the Scene “ is a masterpiece within a masterpiece. It was written and born during the Vietnam era but it escapes it’s time period and is genuinely timeless !
Mr. Arthur Lee, YES!! This song in fact the entire recording is a TRUE TRUE CLASSIC!!!!!!! You have been there, and have done THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😁😊😁😊😁‼️‼️
Being an old fart, and growing up in the LA area, got to see him quite a few times. I always enjoyed seeing them, what awesome music they made. Thanks AP for posting this great video!!
We're probably close in age. I remember that scene as well only I was living on the east coast in the boring South at the time. It must have been unbelievably nice to be around all that music. Of course LOVE helped open the world to the DOORS. I'm so envious. Once I moved to Atlanta in the mid '70s, I was able to experience the music scene to its fullest but nothing, no where at any time, could rival what you got to see and hear.
One of the best albums and songs ever. And very poignant lyrics, knowing that he died way too young. I can play Forever Changes over and over (and I do) and it never gets old. Rest in peace, Arthur Lee.
I was 20 and struggling when this album came out and this song was pivotal in my life when I heard the line “ this is the time and life I am living and I’ll face each day with a smile”. And so lucky to see him sing it live in 2003 in Leicester - just amazing 🤩
This one of the best live performances I've ever seen ...this man is a genius and it's hard to its 17 years old already.....RIP Arthur what a mark you left
This performance made me weep. This album, this song, it profoundly touched me the first time I listened to it, and it has stuck with me ever since. What a gift Arthur Lee was.
I couldn't imagine what it it would be like to create such beauty. I think it would itself kill most people. I luckily got to see him a few times in the early 90s an 00s. What delights me nearly as much as the music is he DID get to know in his lifetime how much the records were loved by subsequent generations. Must've been a huge thrill to him. RIP Arthur
I think so. He was quite nervous after last period of (stupid) jail-time. He seemed to have decided to commit himself to bring this masterpiece to the public in it's glory.
I was in that crowd - 21 years old. I'd been supremely lucky to get hold of Forever Changes on CD in my teens, before I saw this performance. I couldn't believe I got to see this in retrospect, before Lee's death. Some of the crowd didn't get it, but you could tell a good number did, who knew about the music history. You couldn't have asked for better that day! - the sunshine, the Sunday evening vibe, the orchestra, it was beautiful. I knew I was seeing something special that day - this album was created for settings like this. RIP, all in Love. You created something that's still drawing new listeners. Magnificent then, and now.
Don't normally comment, but wonderful performance, brought tears to my eyes - So true to the Forever Changes album bringing back memories of listening to the album in a lonely bedsit in the early 70's and this track being played at Eel Pie Island, singing along with my mates (can't remember circumstances, but that moment never forgotten). Lucky enough to see him at Dunstable during his 1974 tour and again at Aylesbury in 2004. RIP Arthur
Bloody hell. It's one thing to listen to this piece of magic from the album, and quite another to see him perform it live as a full living breathing manifestation of the lyrics. Genius. _For the time that I've been given's such a little while..._ What it must have been like to be on the front row and be hit with that wall of sound.
Masterful. Excellent. Shivers down the spine when I notice some of those fine musicians on brass & strings were probably not born when this song was first released & they were smiling while they played. And they played so proficiently. What an impressive performance. RIP Arthur....thanks.
I went to Glastonbury every time it was on from 1987 to 1998, but there's no time since that I've wished that I could've been back there more than this. Arthur with the setting sun on his face, band, strings'n'brass balanced to perfection, amazing song from an amazing album. Oh, man. Just perfect.
You can see his genius in this performance. The album Forever Changes is an absolute classic--so far ahead of its time it really cannot be measured. It is sad the original band really did not tour in their prime. Thus, they were never promoted properly. They were far more popular at the time in the UK. Then after he was railroaded into prison on the bogus gun charge and sentenced under the horrendous 3 strikes policy to 12 years and served 5, it is gratifying that he reformed with some great musicians to do these tours in the early 2000s. What a blessing to have these preserved on CZcams. So glad I discovered them. In the late 60s, I had discovered his music and was perfectly enthralled. He died too young of leukemia and his Obit ran in the NYTimes. Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, Neil Young and Jimi Hendrix and many others were great admirers of his creative artistry. Easy to see why.
Much of his lack of promotion was his own fault. Arthur Lee didn't like touring in the advent of his career. In 1968 LOVE was the darling of the Sunset Strip in LA. Epic records wanted to push LOVE only Arthur suggested that his record label take a look at another up and coming band named. . .The DOORS. Epic did take a look. And they signed the DOORS, then promoted them over LOVE. Arthur Lee even lost his girlfriend, Pamela Coursen, to Jim Morrison. Personally I thought that LOVE was imminently more talented than the DOORS but. . . they blew a chance to prove it. Arthur Lee wouldn't have been arrested today on the charges that sent him to prison. He did indeed live a sad life at times. Yet, there was no denying his talent. I still play their music religiously. They were in my generation. Where has the time gone?
I walked into a Tower Records in Chico 30 years ago one stoned evening and heard this. One of my favorites, but I can’t listen to it all the time.....and for every happy hello, there will be goodbye. Thank you Mr Lee.
Guess it was about 1968, I was 24 at the time, I bought "Forever Changes", played it until it packed up almost. Truly wonderful music and it still is and that's no nostalgia trip either.

Great live version of one of the all time greatest songs. Would always stay awake until midnight as WNEW FM dj Scott Muni would always end his broadcast with this song. He also recognized the true genius!

I am fortunate enough to have seen him twice during this final tour. Forever Changes in England is as revered as much as Sgt Peppers by many. It is amazing to me that he was largely obscure in his native country
Youthful violinists and trumpteters are loving this.....a gem from before they were born. How kool is that?? Arthur Lee STILL at the top of his game. Soft yet forceful voice.....It's Love 4 EVER.
He was far ahead of his time! I hear that Morrison (Doors) used to follow him around, not daring to ask what for question. I suppose those who are old enough can say if this is correct.
Jim did the same with Eric Burden, from what I heard. Jim was the new kid on the block who was in awe of his idols, and was still working on his confidence skills.
The lyrics and Music from This Album gave me words that I've lived by since it's release in 1967 ,,yeah I'm THAT Old .. I'm the man who could not decide to fight what my father thinks is right . I've had at least 4 copies on vinyl and Cd .. Thanx !!!
Amazing. Just amazing. I grew up in their time and heard their music, but not very often - which is a shame. This video is fantastic. The young blond violinist can hardly contain herself - all musicians recognize when a song comes together musically and she's definitely feeling the vibe. Love this song.
James Roets I was thinking the same about the look of pure joy on that girls’ face. What a trip for all of the supporting musicians to be part of that magical experience
What a truly Beautiful Piece of Work! Once this song gets in your head it is there forever! And FOREVER CHANGES! God Bless Arthur Lee! But the band are amazing too! Love dx
Love should have been one of the biggest bands in the world. The members of the Doors all idolised them and even signed with Electra because Love were on the label. Forever Changes is one of the greatest albums of all time. Love, Da Capo and Four Sail were all superb albums as well.
Really wanted to see this concert, but at the time I had 3 kids under the age of 10 and was living in NZ so the timing was just not right. My sister bought me a Love tee shirt to soften the blow!
We can't be everywhere in this life . But no doubt when you watch this , you're there !!!! As I am , and all the others who weren't there then . But because of the miracle that is CZcams , we are now . Better late than never !!!!
Probably the best climax to a song ever. The original is magnificent but didn't believe they could do it justice live but this is wonderful. RIP Arthur.
Agreed. My other two favourite endings are ‘Can’t be so bad’ by Moby Grape and ‘Astronomy’ by Blue Oyster Cult
The best song from the finest album ever, performed to perfection. It simply does not get better than this.

K Thomson oh it’s too hard to pick a ‘greatest’ song from that heartfelt album
I would say that this song is the best live song ever performed at Glastonbury
