I remember when it came out. We have to take in perspective that The Doors used to open(!) for this band. Such is the fickle finger of Fate. What might have been.
Trying to recreate a masterpiece is almost impossible. Trying to recreate a masterpiece 33 years later is even more. But not only did Arthur Lee managed to pull it off, he did it all live in concert, totally nailing it! RIP Arthur Lee.
Forever Changes is a masterpiece. It's a crime that it's not better known. The use of horns and strings is genius. Arthur's songwriting described his life, what he witnessed. I was fortunate to have seen Love many times, at Pandora's Box, the Whiskey A Go Go, and more. They always sounded great live. After the Beatles, they were my favorite band.❤❤❤
I envy you. But so many times, a band's greatest work comes during their own self-implosion. The Mamas and the Papas is another example. The world owes Arthur Lee better.
I bought the album in 1969. Just discovered these. Concert videos. Busy being in the Army for 20 years the 10 more driving 18 wheelers thur 48 states and Canada. These live performance are just like the album. To bad Arthur Lee passed away what a voice. The whole band is one of greats in my 73 years. And like 60 of the best Rock bands thur the years
I’ve been listening to this song for over 53 years and was fortunate enough to see the concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 2003. Simply sublime as is the whole album.
Just genius, gorgeous, so fantastic I can't put fully into words. Arthur Lee holds his own with the greats of his generation like Hendrix and Dylan. But his sound is so original and timeless, his lyrics so sincere. Time is all we have -- what a great and concise message.
Arthur didn't want to tour or LOVE would have been as big as the Doors in those days. Forever Changes is one of top 100 Albums even released. This is a masterpiece for the ages. Thank You Arthur, Bryan, Johnny and Ken the ones who recorded this Classic . Love the group Love
I see your picture It's in the same old frame We'll meet again You look so lovely You with the same old smile Stay for a while I need you so, oh, oh, oh, oh And if you take it easy I'm still teethin' I want to love you, but Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
This guy, Arthur Lee, was so far ahead of his time. Bringing in an orchestra, long before the Beatles’ George Martin put violin of Elenor Rigby. This song, basically three songs woven together (like Lennon and McCartney’ A Day in the Life, had started out as two separate songs) is a masterpiece. Not to mention the beautiful, poetic lyric, and that perfect, spot on vocal delivery. EVERYONE is in top form.
This band and the only real BS&T with Al Kooper and Steve Katz brought horns and strings to the forefront in this wonderful, wonderful era of music. No regrets being in my 70's because I got to see all these amazing concerts at the Filmore, The Capital Theater, the Wolman Skating Rink, et al. What memories. RIP Arthur.
This is the best video of this concert I’ve seen. Thank you so much! Arthur Lee was a masterful musician, song writer and amazing man. Baby Lemonade are extraordinary. This music will never die! All the musicians here are the finest!!!
@@benlotus2703 Thanks Ben....Many people missed the greatness of this band; one-hit wonders? Maybe. But when you put out an album where every song is beloved you get a pass. Child is Father to the Man comes to mind, too. My wife who was in the R&R business for many years always used to tell me it's the writing that counts. There are not too many groups like the Eagles who write their own material. And that's where the money is too. Arthur Lee RIP..You were magnificent. I wore Forever Changes out of so many years. Thankfully he is on youtube with much of his incredible work. Not sure you knew this? Check it out. Thanks for your post..love deserves it!
This live album is an actual classic. Forever Changes was never played live by the original Love. No live recordings or videos by Love 65-68. Love from 94-03 was L.A. group Baby Lemonade backing Arthur, reconvening after Arthur's prison time was served. Arthur went back to Memphis, his birth home and formed another Love group from remnants of The Oblivions and Reigning Sound before he passed from Myeloid Lukemia in 06. A fair amount of live stuff from 03-05 on CZcams and performance wise,Arthur brought it right til the end!
Actually, Johnny and Michael Stuart Ware played with Arthur and Baby Lemonade/ Love 94-04,as did original drummer Don Conka. Johnny and Michael played with Baby Lemonade after Arthur passed. Emmett Lundbourg of The Soundtrack Of Our Lives sang Arthur's leads. CZcams stuff exists of some of these shows.
Check out Love Story DVD, interviews with everyone involved and then some. Alas,no vintage 60s clips,as very little exists. The Forever Changes Concert DVD from 03 (Royal Festival Hall London) is also worth seeing. Arthur is in fine voice through it all and the orchestra blends well with the band to create a classic concert and live Lp/DVD.
Forever Changes is always in Rolling Stone magazine list of top 50 albums all time. I have it on vinyl and cd. This live version is near perfect to the original!
Excellent rendition of a classic tune from a top 100 album, in my opinion, top 10, of all time. I would have loved being at that show. The musicians assembled really pull it off. I have played many a tune from this concert and they ain't easy.
Also, lets give some well deserved credit to David Angel who did the arrangements and orchestration on the original recording. I miss the sour trumpets at the end, they are too clean here.
Arthur is soo confident and sings with authority, imo, is the words they wrote 40 years earlier- BUT NOW, HAVING LIVED THAT "VERY VERY "full" life LIFE, HE BELIEVES what he is singing- now he points to his audience and says "THESE EWORDS ARE TRUE"!! THe BEATLES NEVER EVAN BEGAN TO TOUCch the deep mystery of this music.
"Forever Changes" is absolutely LEAGUES ahead of the grossly overrated "Sgt Pepper" - key difference: the former is killer with no filler - the latter is 70% embarrassing filler.
Oh man. That last half is spine tingling stuff. Such a positive message.
You can listen to this whole album and STILL be astounded by this song at the end. Top 3 of all time for me.
100%
A Masterpiece
I will never forget Love!
Top 1
First album I ever bought, in 1967. Still my favourite.
Yes ,his 2003 tour was superb. I didn't even realise he was black until I was 40 +
Forever Changes is a masterpiece. It's a crime that it's not better known. The use of horns and strings is genius. Arthur's songwriting described his life, what he witnessed.

Love this song! 👍👍👍👍
The entire Forever Changes Album is absolutely amazing.
Bought it when it came out and never gets old. This Live version is stunning !
I was blown away when I first heard it-ran out and bought it immediately-one of the best albums ever
It’s like Arthur Lee heard “All You Need is Love” in the summer of ‘67 and said “oh, man, it’s much deeper than that..”
Damn, he sounds so good here.
Meaningful lyrics for us all.
And for everyone who thinks that life is just a game
Do you like the part you're playing!
He's amazing , love him ❤ RIP Arthur ❤

Just magical....a 7 minute song and I think there's only one line repeated in the very end...Well well deserved standing ovation.
Wow this brought a tear to my eye !
Massive performance to a greatly massive song!!!! 😊
Sublime. Every time I feel low I play the last two minutes of this and come away re-energised
One of the grooviest Pisces dudes on the planet
Arguably the best song on Forever Changes but has some competition-one of the all time great albums-not one weak song
I’ve been listening to this song for over 53 years and was fortunate enough to see the concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 2003. Simply sublime as is the whole album.

Such amazing lyrics!!! "All that lives is gonna die"
This is just different level. ❤️
For those who like Forever Changes, there is A LOT of great music on both Four Sail and Out Here.
Arthur didn't want to tour or LOVE would have been as big as the Doors in those days. Forever Changes is one of top 100 Albums even released. This is a masterpiece for the ages. Thank You Arthur, Bryan, Johnny and Ken the ones who recorded this Classic . Love the group Love
....Forever Changes....the greatest Rock Record of all time along with Notorious Byrd Brothers....
I see your picture
It's in the same old frame
We'll meet again
You look so lovely
You with the same old smile
Stay for a while
I need you so, oh, oh, oh, oh
And if you take it easy
I'm still teethin'
I want to love you, but
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
My favorite song when feeling down. Amazing change to a march.
better than 90% of the Beatles , but I doubt even boomers have never heard of LOVE
Brilliant recreation of Arthur Lee’s masterpiece! Still holds up well.

another highlight from one of the best records ever made. every song on it is a hit

Aurther Lee was an interesting Cat, RIP
Just sooooo good
Absolutley love this song. Epic tune.
Majestic!!
RIP, immortal.
Love Love !! Arthur Lee 💞
Timeless masterpiece... Better than Sgt.Pepper. Only Hendrix higher for me...
Agreed
He was good friends with Hendrix, who looked up to Arthur. ❤❤😊😊
This is the best video of this concert I’ve seen. Thank you so much! Arthur Lee was a masterful musician, song writer and amazing man. Baby Lemonade are extraordinary. This music will never die! All the musicians here are the finest!!!
Arthur at his best! Thankfully captured on DVD & Video for our viewing & tripping pleasure.
This is my grandcats favorite Love song. The 2nd half of the song was his favorite

This is a beautiful band
The absolute best.
I LOVE this song, I would have liked to see the horn section
Absolutely love it...
Beautiful!

Lawrence, did Johnny Echols perform with Arthur at all during this period? Thanks Brother.

Correct the Beatles did not ✅
👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
He must have been an absolte perfectionist, there is very little diff between decades earlir recordings and his later live performances
Where was this show? House of blues?
Royal Festival Hall
Wow.....he dosen't sound any different than the original recording!!!!!
"Forever Changes" is absolutely LEAGUES ahead of the grossly overrated "Sgt Pepper" - key difference: the former is killer with no filler - the latter is 70% embarrassing filler.
One has their feet on the ground, the other, their heads in the clouds.
Probably the most stolen lp @ WRUW for years! "Love Forever Changes"
