      I don’t think it’s a light detector. It’s a proximity sensor so reflection is also detected

    These would actually be so useful for people in college who learn by sight. They could record themselves doing procedures in labs and just play them back. This would obviously be very helpful in college but I know that in grade schools you can't record or take pictures that might have someone's face/voice in it without their written consent, but as a nursing student this actually is kinda awesome.

My college offers different items for people who learn differently, including a pen that can record audio for lectures and you can search up a keyword to see when it was used in the lecture. Unfortunately I don't think they have any sort of recording device for in lab use. Professors often record lectures, but if you're trying to study physical movements (like how to wrap a foot for example) you're mostly on your own, and it's kinda tricky to bring in a tripod for a phone to record or something like that.

    I think the reason why there is a sensor is to prevent privacy invasion of some sort since someone can use the glasses to record in private stuff like conversations or going into a changing room and then recording the people around there so the people would probably or somehow know they are recording with their glasses?

      I believe they're using the LED as the sensor when it's turned off, which would mean that it's primarily sensitive to light in the same visible wavelengths being emitted by the LED

    I have one of these and I’ve tested them just to see. If the tape is on there before you start recording, it won’t let you record. If you’re already recording, it won’t stop it, but it also won’t save your recording. I know this to be true elsewhere because I have somewhat longer hair for a guy and it blocks it for like a second and it’s so annoying that the whole recording is gone after that.

      That's almost certainly true. That said I think it's also a travesty of a law to require two-party consent. There should, at minimum, be exceptions when there's a reasonable suspicion of criminal activity since the natural implication is that burglars must give consent or else you can't record security footage. It also gets in the way of journalism since no one is going to admit to wrongdoing if they think they're being recorded.

    Legalities. Many jurisdictions have laws to require permission from participants to record them. It gets even messier if calling or vid calling in multiple jurisdictions.

      As with most legal things, "it depends".
      While private property may post signs against recording, and may take steps to enforce that right, public spaces are generally not afforded the same protection. There is no expectation of privacy in public, including many private spaces that are open to the public.
      Consent is usually only required if the recording is to be used for commercial gain, again assuming a public or publicly-accessible space with no expectation of privacy.
      There are nuances beyond the scope of a CZcams comment that might apply. I am not an attorney and this is not legal advice; contact a lawyer in your area for any questions or concerns.

      The intended purpose is to take photos. The light is to prevent creeps from taking capture ‘opportunistically’ for a lack of better terms… so at least you know when someone is using the camera on these if they’re wearing them. It’s an ethical feature.

      Without the context of this video if I saw someone with these on I'd have no idea what the light meant.

      I’m gonna wager that the far majority of the folks in the comments would’ve been able to make that assumption as well, considering how the discourse in these comments is past the lights purpose. The real question is whether or not your camera glasses should indicate to people around you whether you’re taking pictures

      Davinci Resolve has auto captions and then I use a tool called Snap Captions to convert them to any style I want.

    Alternatively, take the thing appart and replace the LED with a normal Diode, maybe a N1007 or something smaller. The circuitry inside would have to be quite complex to sense that. But off course that requires some electronics knowledge and sodering, potentially microsodering skills and equipment

    Just remove the wiring from the LED and if it’s detecting the load put a resistor on there that matches the LED? I think. Idk a lot about electrical engineering but I’m confident I could figure it out with CZcams and a few hours.

      I doubt it's load gated, but even if it is, it's so easily bypassed. It's a silly "security" feature.

    Jesus fuck. Thank you for this information. I work for one of Luxottica's retailers in Aus and during our mandatory courses for the RB Meta we were told it was tamper proof compared to its first generation. This is good to know that it actually CAN be tampered with.

    If you accidentally covered the sensor while you was in the process of recording that wouldn't be good. I think they fixed that they would have to do it if you covered for like more than 10 second it prompts you saying uncover the sensor. Great presentation Nathan!❤

    I remember an old commercial about this in the Philippines.

    You can put a mini mirror in front of it in a small casing that points upwards (45° angle) so it will think it's not blocked and harder to notice. 🤔

    A little soldering and Viola! Led lights are basically a resistor that emits light. Replace with a resistor to match the V/Amps. Hacked like a cheap Mini Arcade.
