I don't care who you play for, I don't wish injury on anyone, especially in these kinds of circumstances. Charlie Morton coming back on a broken bone to strike out a few more batters was epic, and I hope all these guys, whenever this happens, bounce back. The sport is more important than the W or rivalry.
im late but Charlie Morton faced another line drive to his throwing arm elbow in his start on NLCS game 4, and then he had to exit again later in a early inning after warming up. It sucks he has to get hit by line drives in the postseason, missing out the game but its baseball and can’t do anything about it
Shadow Ridley-Unfortunately scenarios like this can't be avoided. In a May 1957 game against the Yankees, Cleveland Indians pitcher Herb Score was hit in the face by a line drive by New York's Gil McDougald, fracturing several bones in his face, and leaving him quite bloodied. McDougald vowed to quit baseball if Score was permanently blinded as a result. Score eventually regained his 20/20 vision, but was never the same pitcher again.
At that speed those balls may as well be bullets. A hit to the wrong spot could very easily prove to be deadly. The temple, throat, heart, etc. That's why I'm of the opinion that Pitchers should have just as much, if not *more* protection than even the batter, because if a pitcher gets hit it could very easily be from a ball going even faster than when it was pitched to the catcher & batter. I would rather inconvenience a pitcher with protective gear than risk seeing someone get seriously (or even worse, fatally) injured. Not to mention the fact that out of every other player on the field, with the exception of the catcher & home base umpire, the pitcher is the closest one to the batter and home plate and thus will have the least time and worst chance to avoid a "comebacker" and is also the most at risk of it happening due to being positioned directly in front of the batter. I'm not even much of a sports guy myself, but even so if there's one thing I hate to see, it's people getting hurt, so I will always back any attempts to mitigate the risks of people getting hurt....especially during what's supposed to be a game.
God I can’t believe Charlie Morton. Dude took a liner to the leg, and then ran like it was nothing, and after that fanned a dude . And he broke his leg too. What a tough guy.
1:35-The reaction speed on that catcher killing the play as fast as possible to wave over the staff sooner, and then the borderline dead silence of that stadium. Class acts in that ball game all around. Sucks for the pitcher to have taken a shot that bad, but people were looking out for him that day.
I saw a kid in legion ball get hit in the nose at SS by a ball that took a funny hop off the dirt. Wasn’t even hit overly hard. Still awful and he went to the hospital and came back with it pretty sure was a broken nose. I cannot imagine getting hit by a liner only 60 feet away.
Took a line shot from the opposing team’s cleanup guy right off the cheek. Coach Dad yanked me for one of our other guys to get the last out of the inning, then after we batted he put me back in. The stitches from the baseball were imprinted in my cheek for a week😂
I remember in the early 2000’s a pitcher named Bryce Fleury got a liner in the face. I want to say he was on the Yankees, but I never saw the game. Just heard about it on the radio and they were saying his face got pretty much destroyed. Could never find a clip of that though. Wonder whatever happened to him. *edit- he was on the Red Sox actually not the Yankees
I remember many years ago around 1960 or so, Cleveland pitcher, Herb Score, was hit in the eye by a line drive by Yankee 3rd baseman, Gil McDougal. Score lost his eye and eventually his career.
I can’t imagine how guilt-ridden Gil was as well, in the other comment they said that if the pitcher had lost his eyesight or had any other serious, permanent damage he would quit.
These are horrific...... I'm surprised I never did this as I hit right back up the middle A-LOT ! At the same time - don't let them hit it so hard ,pitcher. The life you save could be your own.
It's obviously much harder to hit someone with the bat but my goodness, when you rip a pitch in you are so exposed unlike batting where you are at least looking at the ball. Also for those interested never turn your face on a ball. The fucking things will follow you. Keep your eyes on it and your hand in front of your face best you can. Go back over the years and look for at all the videos of people turning and ducking and watch ho many eat the ball in the face due to putting more effort in ducking and less in protection
The crowd settled down after that and the hit wasn't anywhere near as bad at the start as some of the others here. He only let the pain take over when the play was dead, so the crowd didn't know how hurt he was until he sat down.
Vladimir Guerrero hitting pitcher Cameron Lowe in the head. It ricochet so hard that it ended up in left field. I attended the game and had Cameron sign my glove…after he was examined. His sister was surprised I wanted his autograph. Glad he was ok.

"cough" unless you're the Yankees

No share jackass I don't believe anybody does
You know how fast pitchers throw
Imagine that shit coming back…
With no headgear…

why the fuck wouldn't they use at least a little protection
No need. It happened to me back in highschool. Luckily I turned just in time, and the baseball hit me in shoulder blade.
Like a ballistic missile.
@@CockaliciousBaseball is full of dumbass traditions. See umpires

these are horrible but you cant look away
This video is great promotional material for Pitchers wearing protective gear.
Just got nailed by one today, missing 3 teeth and concussion. Great to see this on my for you page
Hey, just saw this comment - hope you're doing better.
If I were an MLB pitcher, I would wear a full helmet with a face mask.
Sometimes you're lying sick in bed and you just wanna watch dudes get hit by baseballs

5:30 funny thing about this is that the Minnesota Vikings also have a player named Jordan Hicks and he’s a starter too.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

This was an unshakable fear playing pitcher back in the day
As a Minnesotan who is a twins fan (I’m more of an NFL fan tho) I found it funny that the very first clip was Max Kepler smoking a guy in the face 😂😂😂
That's physics for you - all that kinetic energy has to go somewhere!

His name is Bryce Florie, not Fleury. Maybe that's why you couldn't find footage. But here it is: czcams.com/video/hW9rqT5st1M/video.html
@@paul-baseballcollector holy smokes that was pretty bad. Thanks for the info. I never saw that before
It was pretty bad. I was watching that game on TV that day. He was never the same.
The ones who made a play were impressive. I can't imagine getting nailed like that.
I was sitting in the right field bleachers at Tropicana when Matt Clement got hit in the head by a comebacker. The sound was very scary 😬
I remember many years ago around 1960 or so, Cleveland pitcher, Herb Score, was hit in the eye by a line drive by Yankee 3rd baseman, Gil McDougal. Score lost his eye and eventually his career.
This isn’t the only pitcher he hit, there’s another comment about another pitcher he hit in the face.
I can’t imagine how guilt-ridden Gil was as well, in the other comment they said that if the pitcher had lost his eyesight or had any other serious, permanent damage he would quit.
This happend to me 2 days ago when I was on the mound I’ll tell what it hurts but nothing to worry about it’s apart of the game
You'd think they'd give pitchers the same helmets and masks as catchers
These are horrific...... I'm surprised I never did this as I hit right back up the middle A-LOT !

What about Doug Fister in Game 2 of The 2012 World Series?!
4:11-Ugh, the way his arm recoils after getting hit makes it look like it's made out of rubber.
Jesus, that gets some stock bone breaking sounds in my head and I don't like it.
This is why so many pitchers cross themselves when they first take the mound.
It's interesting how they all have pretty much the same reaction. That's gotta leave one heck of a bruise.
They’re getting hit with 100 mph balls
intro song?????
I’ve had a ball hit at my head before in 12u and surprisingly enough I caught it thanks to fast reaction time but it still scared the shit out of me
Over head as a hockey goalie laughing…
This happened to me 😅 right on the thigh
4:56 you can hear him saw “ow” as the ball hits him 😬
would be nice to tell us the out come of the ones that got hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ya know, this happens to other infielders as I play third base and the ball bounced up on a weird bounce, ripped off most of the skin on my hand
Ouch!! 😬
I don't usually wish harm on people, but injuries and dancing are the only thing I manage to find entertaining in baseball-
Explain the injury!
At least it's better then pitchers purposefully hitting batters. The opposite is "almost" impossible. So you "more or less" can't do it intentionally.
It's obviously much harder to hit someone with the bat but my goodness, when you rip a pitch in you are so exposed unlike batting where you are at least looking at the ball.

Don't understand why they just wear a cap and don't wear any headgear instead.
3:03 I’m sorry but don’t cheer that you got a single after another player is injured!!!! 😠😤😡🤬

I've seen guys take a puck in the face for 150+ stitches and be back on the ice the next period.

Why does the medical staff always put the towel in the dirt first thing they do throw the towel on the dirt
This why I never played baseball
Give up the play, protect your teammate
Imagine wearing a mask OUTDOORS thinking it would help at all lmao
We need to have pitchers wear helmets for this reason
"Get the medic"!?!? There are no medics at baseball games hahaha
Wonder how many of these pitchers have intentionally hit batters with pitches.
My favorite thing to do as a switch hitter….😘
Eh. I’ve seen worse.
That was a toddler have some compassion
2:56 this ball broke this pitcher’s leg
These pitchers think it is sissy to wear helmets. Let them not wear. Let them suffer their own doing.
It would mess up their pitching delivery
I call it Karma, for all the times P>tchers got away with hitting Batters, and not being ejected.
Disappointing did not show any blood.
